Just book it
This place was perfect for our first visit to Maine. It was close enough to Acadia, but far enough to be away from the crowds and traffic. When we didn’t feel like driving to the park, we explored Schoodic peninsula, and went to a few of the preserves on Hancock Point. The only “complaint” we had was that there were no condiments or spices there. My husband loves to cook, so he had to improvise or purchase, and then we had to bring it all home with us. We drove, so it wasn’t a big deal. Other than that, the house was super comfortable and the area was so peaceful and quiet. It was also much bigger than it seems in the pictures. Thank you, Ellen and Ryan for sharing this beautiful house with us!

Great property with private beach
This is a wonderful property just a few steps from the beach. Ellen, the owner is wonderful and always available to answer any questions. We found the place in perfect condition and with everything that a family might need in a house. Highly recommend this place.

Acadia get away
I’ve stayed at properties all over the country and have never seen one so clean and the kitchen so well furbished. Great place to spend the week exploring Acadia National Park and Mount Desert Island. About 40 minutes from Bar Harbor but not too far away. Great location and very peaceful. Great communication with the owner as well.

Superb house and location.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at this home. It is perfectly positioned to explore Acadia and areas beyond. It was an excellent and comfortable home base to return to relax and prepare for the next day’s adventure. The house is clean, well stocked with essentials, and nicely appointed. It is quiet, roomy, and accommodated our family of four perfectly. Highly recommended if you are looking for a place a little off the beaten path but close enough to everything.

Love the area but would look for a more beach friendly waterfront
Built well away from the water with a difficult steep trail to get to the beach. The beach itself is only navigable at low tide. A porch would have been nice to enjoy the beautiful Maine weather.

A lovely place
The house is wonderful, is fully stocked, the host is gracious and very responsive, the backyard has a private beach, and the sunsets are out of the world. What more can one ask for? This is a perfect vacation away from home house. Only a very small caution, and that is purely for people looking to spend daily time at Acadia national park - The property is located 30 min from Schoodic point part of Acadia and 45 min from Bar Harbor side of Acadia. We did not have issues driving there at all but something to keep in mind.

Stunning Maine vacation property
If your looking for your next family vacation home in Maine, stop looking, you've found it! This property embodies everything you could want. Centrally located to both Schoodic and Mt. Desert parks. The home was beautiful clean and fully stocked and I mean stocked with everything you could need! Ellen was lovely and so easy to communicate with! Our family had so much fun kayaking right off the beach. We found loads of sea glass, starfish and perfect views right off the private beach. We have vacationed in this area many times and this is by far our favorite place. Already planning our trip back!! Thank you again Ellen❤️

Nice Stay in Hancock Point
My family and I had a great time at the property. We were permitted to check in a little early... The house was very clean and had everything we needed for a week long stay. The location in Hancock Point is serene. We had our own private beach where we could wander around looking for shells and seaglass. One day, we even saw a seal playing around about 100 feet out from the beach, popping its head up every 5 minutes to say hello. The location is convenient to major places to see... Winter Harbor and that side of Acadia is about 30 minutes away. Bar Harbor and core Acadia is 40 minutes away. Ellsworth is 20 minutes with grocery stores and shopping. The location is a great "in between" spot for those looking for a quiet waterfront house to get away!

Beautiful sunsets, water access, eagles
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The home is impeccably clean and well supplied, everything we needed at our fingertips. Check in was easy and communication with Ellen was a breeze. The home is perfectly situated for excursions as well as relaxing by the firepit, watching eagles swoop, enjoying the water and sunsets, and preparing meals. We visited Cadillac Mountain for gorgeous sunset (you need reservations for the summit), enjoyed Bar Harbor, Schoodic Point, Catherine Hill Winery, organic wild Maine blueberries in Cherryfield, lobster and so much more. Convenient to dining options and grocery shopping yet away from the bustle. This was supremely relaxing and an ideal place to stay. Thanks for sharing your lovely home. We would love to come back!

A wonderful way to experience coastal Maine!
We selected Sunset Ledge because of the rave reviews - and they were all true! We needed a house that was comfortable fo c r someone with chronic back issues ( hello, two recliners!) and also offered things to do for the kids. The open floor plan was so accommodating and the house was immaculate. We rented a kayak for the wee v k and enjoyed the water- we even took our paddle board out on a calm morning! And we saw a seal in our back ocean-yard! Schoodic and Acadia MDI are both breathtaking and an easy 40-45 minutes away, and the Super-Walmart is less than 20 minutes for provisioning. The kitchen was so well-stocked that cooking at home was a joy. The host was very thoughtful and responded so quickly to all of our questions - even for a perfect local restaurant for lobster and non-lobster eaters (Ruth and Wimpy’s). All in all, it was the perfect vacation spot!

Maine Stay
The pictures do not do it justice. What a beautiful and welcoming home. Extremely clean. Ellen and Ryan thought of everything. The little touches make you feel so 'at home'. I don't think I have ever experienced such a well stocked kitchen! Everything you need to cook, bake, and steam seafood is there. The shoreline and tides are great to explore. One day we simply vegged out and explored the cable channels. It was so relaxing. Initially we had planned on a family visit but unfortunately they got stuck at an airport in another state and were not able to join us. But we made the best of it, exploring the many pamphlets Ellen has available so you can see what's around the area to see - Acadia Nat'l Park, Schoodic Point, town of Ellsworth, Bar Harbor, museums, and a great little restaurant about 10 minutes away called Ruth & Wimpys, has wonderful seafood. We would definitely stay here again! Thank you Ellen & Ryan!

Acadia Vacation
I would recommend this vacation home! The home was very welcoming, extraordinarily clean and lastly had comfortable beds. The owner was very organized and had extras you won’t find in other rentals such as bottled/bubbler drinking water and window A/C units for the bedrooms. The A/C was definitely needed and kept the bedrooms nice and cool. The grill and fire pit were great! The owner even provides your fire wood. If you are looking for seclusion with a beautiful setting, this is it! My youngest daughter did swim on the beach and loved jumping off the rock shelf into the water. The cold water didn’t bother her, but know the water was very cold in July. We easily found sea glass everyday on the beach!!! That was so much fun combing for sea glass! It was about 40-50 minutes to access the various Acadia Park entrances that are spread throughout the area. The Walmart was a quick 15-20 minute drive. The location was great for my family and our love of the outdoors. Our favorite highlights in the area were hiking the Schoodic Peninsula, taking a fishing boat charter out of bass harbor and lastly visiting Tidal Falls a few times to find hundreds of star fish during low tide! Tidal falls is only an 8 min drive from the rental. We would definitely stay again!

Special Place
First, a big thank you to Ellen for helping us with a last minute unforeseen itinerary change - you were most kind. Also, for the quick and helpful responses when we had questions. We found Sunset Ledge to be incredibly quiet and welcoming. The house itself is pristinely clean and the kitchen is as well stocked and as organized as any chef’s kitchen could be. It ticked all the boxes - comfortable beds - plenty of hot water (double shower head in master) - Air conditioning in the bedrooms - (we had a heat wave and this was much appreciated). The linens and towels were plentiful and of good quality. The beach and views were awesome. We enjoyed the unobstructed views and sunsets. Collecting sea glass was a highlight for all of us. We felt like were alone - and we loved it. The peninsula - has some incredible history as evidenced by two big illustrated books on the book shelf. We enjoyed seeing how all these houses came to be and it reads like a who’s who of important people; Fascinating. Take the time to read about to the German Sub appearing during WWII and the special house at the top of the road (I won’t give it away) We were able to dine down the road at the historic Crocker House - and enjoy the local trails on the peninsula. 1/2 hour from Bar Harbor and even closer to the many towns north. We enjoyed them immensely. We sat out at night with a fire and marshmallows (they provided the pit and sticks- and wood) and saw so many stars, the Milky Way, and tracked many satellites. This location was terrific for disconnecting (the internet was as described - which is good for minimal usage). Exploring was at its best. We look forward to coming back. We are considering a longer stay the next time. I would gladly recommend this house to family friends and fellow travelers.

Amazing Stay in an Amazing Place
We had a wonderful time at Sunset Ledge. The home is immaculate and very welcoming. It had everything we needed and more. The property was gorgeous, set in quiet Hancock Point with great views, plenty of yard and a short tree-lined walking path down to the water for daily sea glass hunting & kayaking! Only about a 45 minute scenic drive to Acadia and Bar Harbor too! Ellen, our host was just fantastic and always only a text away if we had a question. We very much look forward to returning to Sunset Ledge real soon!

Beautiful Property!
This is one of the best properties we have ever stayed in. Such a beautiful home and the location is just breathtaking. The house is perfect, so clean and has everything you need for your home away from home. The home is tucked back in the woods, overlooking the water. You can walk on the property to the beach. The town of Hancock is fabulous and surrounded by amazing restaurants and small coastal towns. Bar Harbor and Acadia are close by and the drive is super easy. We LOVED coming back to the property after a long day of hiking in Acadia, relaxing on the beach, watching the sunset and searching for sea glass. So great to stay in a home away from the crowds. Ryan and Ellen are wonderful hosts, so gracious and helpful. Thank you for sharing this amazing property. We are so grateful for the beautiful week we had with our family and the memories made.

This property was more spacious than the pictures do it justice. We had absolutely everything we needed for our family of five with most of our meals being cooked at home. It is absolutely one of the cleanest rentals we have ever stayed in. It was the perfect spot to unwind after a long day of exploring the area… incredibly beautiful and serene. Surrounded by Nature
Sunset Ledge is a relaxing spot along the shore where you wake up to the sea air & sounds and... Follow the flights of egrets, gulls, loons, sandpipers, bald eagles, and hummingbirds. Hunt for sea glass and tumbled seashells along the shore, watch seals raise a scurry of jumping schools of fish, river otters, and lobster fishermen. Read books (many in the bookcase about the area), shore fish (no bites unfortunately-a kayak or boat would help to get out a bit further), slowly construct a puzzle, play board games, watch Red Sox baseball on the tv, go mini golfing, and take naps! Close enough to the beauty of Acadia, deep sea fishing, and puffin tours out of Bar Harbor. You may get lucky like us and see a minke whale too! Great food & drinks not far - at The Gallery in Winter Harbor and Fogtown Brewery for pizza in their Ellsworth garden. Returning to the peace of this special spot in Maine with dark starry skies and all the comforts of home.

Private beach!
We just got back from our week long stay at Sunset Ledge, and I thought I'd write a review to help others; I rely pretty heavily on reviews! The house was very clean, had everything we needed (very well stocked kitchen!) and felt spacious for our group of 4 (2 adults, 2 children). There were also other nice features such as a drying rack for wet suits and a rinse sink in the laundry room, lots of books and a guest book which actually gave us some great ideas. The house was great - as advertised, though I think nicer in person. The best part, of course, was the water access. It is a short walk through the woods (it feels magical when walking down closer to sunset when the sun gets a bit brighter and shines through the trees). Note, this walk is downhill - meaning its uphill coming back up. This was not an issue for us, but something to note. We loved going down to the beach at all different times of day - at high tide we would sit on the ledge, and at low tide search for 'treasures'. Plus, we made sure to enjoy the sunsets down there every night which were spectacular! It is a rocky beach, so water shoes were helpful. As many of others have mentioned, you are far enough away from the more touristy spots such as Acadia that you feel so relaxed and at peace, but you are nearby to so, so many attractions (Tidal Falls, lake beaches, ocean beaches, Schoodic Penninsula, cute and quaint little harbor towns, etc, etc). The house and location are a great value for what you get, and I would certainly recommend it.

This was the most amazing property for a rental vacation home. The cleanliness, well stocked home, and amazing views. You cannot go wrong with booking this home. Ellen and Ryan were wonderful. Our 3 children loved vacationing here so much. Jumping off rock ledge at high tides and searching for treasures during low tides. We will visit again when our youngest is a little older. Perfect!
This property was perfect for our family of five- we have three teen boys and there was plenty of space! It was probably the cleanest rental property we have ever stayed in! We really enjoyed hanging out at the ledge beach for a couple of days, but the location was great for our day trips to the Schoodic Peninsula and Acadia National Park, too. The owners were super easy to communicate with and very kind and friendly. If we ever get back to Coastal Maine, we’d stay here again in a heartbeat!
