Oceanfront Retreat w/ Incredible Views Just 90 Seconds from the Beach

Hanalei Colony Resort K4 is a cute and intimate retreat in an off-the-beaten-path location on Kauai's far North Shore, perfect for romantic getaways and escaping the crowds! The sunny and cheerful condo has two bedrooms, with the option to use the second bedroom as a work space or kids bedroom, a fully equipped kitchen, and an open living and dining area that gets tons of natural light in addition to the killer ocean views. There's also a large, shady lanai with seating for 2 to enjoy the sights and sounds of the Pacific. Please note that the bedrooms are separated from the main living space via sliding shoji screens; while the screens offer visual privacy, they are by no means soundproof.

The amenities at Hanalei Colony Resort make this the perfect spot for a slow-paced, laidback vacation. Walk just a few steps and you're right on a warm, sandy beach away from any crowds! Or, spend a day by the pool and hot tub, lounging in the sun and grilling in the outdoor kitchen. If you need to truly unwind and pamper yourself, the Hanalei Day Spa is just across the parking lot and offers some incredible services (can you say beachside couple's massage?). You'll also find the Opakapaka grill & bar on site for some tasty seaside bites, as well as the Na Pali Art Gallery & Coffee Shop where you can peruse some beautiful art while enjoying a morning brew. Additionally, there is an on site coin-operated laundry room, so be sure to bring some quarters! (the front office can usually make change if you don't have any)

For those of us that like to get out and about, Hanalei Colony Resort K4 is still conveniently close to many main attractions. Take a quick 15 minute drive and you're in the heart of Hanalei town, with all its charming boutiques, restaurants, and cafes. Grab a bite to eat or a shave ice before heading to the iconic beaches of Hanalei Bay for the day. Tunnels Beach, perfect for snorkeling, is only 3 minutes away driving, or 20 minutes on foot if you prefer to walk. Ha'ena Beach is just another 3 minutes down the road, and is an absolute hidden gem with pristine waters and some of the best sunsets in the world. You're also just 10 minutes away from the Limahuli Garden & Preserve, which offers an introduction into native Hawaiian culture and its ties to the natural landscape against a backdrop of dramatic mountains and the Pacific Ocean. For any basic grocery needs, as well as delicious sandwiches, acai bowls, coffee, and shave ice, head 3 minutes down the road to the Wainiha Country Market. You'll also find a lovely selection of local goodies you won't be able to resist.

Please note that Hanalei Colony Resort was built in simpler times in a more remote location. The resort was designed with the untouched environment as the main draw, and does not offer all the luxuries of modern resorts. There is no dishwasher and no TV in the unit (although there is Wi-Fi), and it takes longer to access other parts of the island. Drive time to Princeville and Kilauea is roughly 30 minutes, to the East Side (where the airport is) is 70 minutes, and to the South Shore is over 90 minutes. We highly recommend renting a car, as third party guests are unfortunately NOT able to use the resort shuttle services. We do, however, encourage guests to take advantage of the North Shore Shuttle, which services locations such as the Wainiha Country Market, Limahuli Gardens, and Ha'ena State Park. The shuttle will pick you up in the parking lot of Hanalei Colony Resort (super convenient!), and advance reservations are required.

As with most homes on Kauai, this vacation rental is NOT air conditioned, however there are ceiling fans in each space and additional tower fans to help with air flow.

This is an upstairs unit. You must be able to go up and down 2.5 flights of stairs (roughly 25 steps) to access the unit. There are no elevators.

Although this home has internet, the speed and reliability cannot be guaranteed due to the remote location and the service being provided by a third-party.

Amazing beach access!
Love the remote feeling of the property as well as the amenities. I'll likely stay here again. this was my 4th trip to Kauai and the north shore and LONG beach walks that this property set us up for was perfect.

The whole island is absolutely stunning; the Hanalei Colony was like the icing on a cake. It's in such a beautiful part of the island. I especially appreciated the bed and bedding. I'm probably a bit too picky about pillows, sheets, etc. but all of the bedding in our apartment was VERY comfortable.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: My wife and I absolutely loved this property. Our only complaint was one of the blinds wouldn’t pull down. AC would be nice but it’s not a necessity. This is the only place we will stay on Kaua’i, we loved it that much. We drove around to look at other places we thought about staying and were so happy that we chose HCR. Sure there’s other fancier places to stay but we came to Kauai hoping not to get the touristy feeling. HCR was nothing but peaceful and relaxed and we can’t wait to come back! We are already looking to book again for next year.

Great place to relax
Staying here felt like we were at the end of the world, a healthy drive away from everything. We really appreciated that Opakapaka Grill and morning coffee shop were right on the property so we didn't have to drive. Our place had a lovely view of the beach from the big picture windows, and although the unit was a little "tired" the furnishings were comfortable, attractive and completely adequate.

Perfect place and location for us
Well away from the "crowds" of Hanalei, this second floor location was perfect for the two of us. As others have noted, the ocean-adjacent location has taken a bit of a toll on some elements (like hardware), but the property was clean, the grounds immaculate, and the view to the breaking waves amazing. Not fancy upscale, but comfortable, homey, and (for us) just right. Kitchen was reasonably well equipped - we cooked all but one meal during our stay. Pool / hot pool / grill area lovely.

The property is situated in a great area. We spent our time within north shore area. This property is needing some attention due to its proximity to the ocean. The usual battle with rust and the need to lubricant Cabernet hinges before they break . It appears that the sliding doors to the main bedroom never were modified after the flooring installation. It did not matter to us but it might bother those who expected to close off the bedroom for privacy. A great place to sit and relax with good food and the best shave ice I have ever had on Kauai and Kona Hawaii.

Perfect place for us
We LOVED the beautiful views and easy few steps to the beach, the well manicured gardens were a treat, the pool/hot tub were better than expected. The condo was very comfortable, had everything we needed. We used the blow up bed provided. Loved having 2 bathrooms. We utilized the boogie boards and beach bag provided every day. We ate at the on site restaurant a couple of times when we didn’t feel like driving back to town. Our week was pure bliss! 4 happy campers. The location of this condo couldn’t have been better for all the best hiking and beaches. We would definitely rent this unit again! Thank you so much!

Can’t beat the location.
The units are older & hard to keep up with the conditions, but we knew what to expect as we have stayed here many times before. The sink & bathtub drain in the front bathroom are very slow. The lanai doors are very hard to slide open. The unit could use a kitchen sheers, ice bucket, pizza cutter, pitcher & a strainer. Also it would be great to use the resort shuttle! Mahalo

The room was very small for the 4 of us, but having two bathrooms was a plus! It definitely needs a deep clean and some repairs. The doors to the one bedroom were off the track and couldn't close. There was a considerable amount of grimy dust on the wood shutters throughout the room. I think it might benefit from a dehumidifier as all the drapes were damp and musty smelling. We had a bit of difficulty getting there at night. You could not see which building was which. We had to call the property and ask for help. They weren't very nice at first because we did not book through them, but they did help us.

Not much of a vacation

No one ever contacted me.Went to he office on property and was told they didntthey didnt hand that property. No TV. Was told to wash the dishes...what the **** was I paying @250 for????? There wasnt even a dish rach there to drythe dishes. No sponge to wash with. O e dish towel. No umbrella but buggie boards and snorkels but no umbrella for their older clients. No one to help get your things to you room and up the stairs. I am 88 years old!!!!

It would be an awesome place to stay with a little better weather. During the rainy/windy season it isn’t ideal. The bed needs replaced it has a sink hole in the middle. It could use some updates as well as cleaned really well. The unity had built up dust (especially lamps, top of fridge etc.) and we didn’t even cook in the kitchen because it was just kind of gross. Maybe just a plumbing issue but the drains didn’t work well nor did the toilets.

Pillows are terrible - super spongy. One of the toilets had trouble flushing. Kitchen and bathrooms were not as clean as they should be. Kitchen appliances (i.e. fridge and stove) were rusted and needed cleaning. Good kitchen supplies including dishes and pots/pans. Easy check in and check out.

Great Condo in a great location
The condo was wonderful and was very clean. As a very frequent visitor to Kauai we selected this location since it is only one mile from Tunnels beach and the second time we have stayed here. We were really happy to find beach chairs and an umbrella in the unit along with a small beach bag which we didn't use. The restaurant that is located on the grounds was really great and the staff were friendly and did a great job. We plan on going back to the same unit again in the near future.
