Make new memories! Vacation in the forest on Loon Lake: spacious; scenic; fun.

Waterfront House on Scenic Loon Lake
Nestled in the forest, this lakefront home has it all. You can enjoy panoramic views from the stunning open concept communal space. But, why stay inside when the large private yard includes a scenic bluff and shoreline on Loon Lake? Of Michigan’s 11,000+ inland lakes, Loon Lake in Hale, Michigan, has to be one of the gems. It is tranquil, yet rated for all-sports, so whether you are looking for a quiet getaway or a family holiday of active fun, you won’t be disappointed. Come visit anytime—we promise, it is spectacular in every season!

Indoor Space: Chuck the Buck welcomes you!
This house has 2900 sq. ft. of living space with all the comforts and conveniences of home. The cathedral ceiling of the entry level creates a huge gathering space with enough lounge seating for everyone. It is open to a fully equipped kitchen and indoor dining around the dinette table or at island bar stools. Yes, we have a large screen TV, but don’t forget to check the entry cabinet for games and puzzles. The entry level also has two spacious master bedrooms with comfortable king size beds, two full bathrooms and a dedicated laundry room. Off season visitors (Oct-May) may appreciate the warmth and ambiance of the gas fireplace.

The giant upstairs loft includes a half bath, lots of sleeping space (queen, bunkbed, twin bed), couches for hanging out, desks for your students or the work-from-home folk, and even a play area with a few toys for the kiddos. On the upstairs landing, you will also find a book nook with a selection of classics and a beanbag chair to nestle into. Also available, an electric piano—please respect the instrument, children must be supervised.

Coming May 2024, more available square footage at the walk-out level (pool table, seating area).

Outdoor Space: Gather, Visit, Play, Make Memories!
This is why you book here! Enjoy outdoor meals on the full-length deck (propane barbeque available), a tranquil morning with a cup of coffee on the lower patio, or sunset campfires at the top of the bluff (firepit and firewood provided). The 35’ elevation enhances the view! Wide, gradual, sturdy steps provide access to the lake level or take the switchback walking path down the hill (new). Lakeside improvements (2023) created a 106’ ribbon of flat land at the lakefront (construction pictures posted--grass has now come in). Dock (May 15-October 30) provides access to gradual slope and sandy bottom Loon Lake for loads of waterfront fun. Guests are welcome to use our two kayaks and one canoe (paddles and keyhole style lifejackets provided). Please bring custom fit lifejackets for children and non- swimmers. Motorized watercraft are not included in the rental, but you may launch your own boat at the nearby Plainfield Township public access site for fishing or all-sports fun.

Tourist Stuff: You cannot do it all in one visit!
Hale is the gateway to the Huron National Forest, 20 miles from Lake Huron, close to multiple hiking, cycling, and skiing trails, many ORV trails for off roading in all seasons, golf courses, hunting, fishing, even shopping (if you must—Tawas) and so much more. Check the entryway guestbook for local options and add your own suggestions for future guests.

Family and friends gathering on the lake
Our group had a great weekend in this fabulous house on Loon Lake, equipped with everything we needed, inside and out. The house was spacious and comfortable. Beautiful lake views from every window. We kayaked, canoed and swam. We grilled dinner on the patio and enjoyed a bonfire, toasting marshmallows on the fire pit. Communication with the owners was excellent! Highly recommend this place!

End of a once in a lifetime trip
We stayed here at the end of our 5 Great Lakes in 24 hour trip. It was exactly what we needed. The lake was perfect; the sitting area made it so easy to stay down there for the day. Lots of room! The cottage itself was perfect. Ample living space and the bedrooms were great for each of the 3 couples. Jim and Lori were fantastic hosts and very responsive leading up to the trip. Would absolutely recommend and return if we had the opportunity!

Beautiful peaceful loon lake
We had the most amazing time here with our dog over memorial day. It was so peaceful and quiet on the lake. There are lots of great areas both indoors and outdoors to spend time. Jim was extremely responsive to questions, including right when we got in at 10 pm for a question about how to turn the grill on. We only had 2 people, but there was a lot of room for additional people if you have a larger group. I would love to go back!

Fall family getaway
We had an amazing long weekend at this beautiful home! Three generations (4 grandparents, 2 parents, 2 kids) were all very comfortable because the home is so spacious and cozy. We enjoyed the fall colors along the River Rd Byway. There were trails for hiking and scenic overlooks to accommodate all ages. Great communication from the owners and plenty of blankets, pillows, and anything needed in the kitchen. Excited to return next year!

Great stay until the lake got a chemical infusion
We had a lovely 3 days at this spacious, clean lake house in mid-August. The views of the lake from the house and deck, and lake access- were great. Several adults found the mattresses to be uncomfortable, and it was inconvenient to have to drag 4 indoor chairs outside to supplement the 4 chairs at the deck table so that all 8 of us could eat together. Still, we would have rated this property higher if we hadn't had a negative experience on our 4th day. We were swimming in the lake in the morning when a neighbor hollered over that there had been an herbicide infusion in the lake that morning, making it unsafe for swimming (Glyphosate, Endothall Diquat Dibromide, and more). We were surprised and upset! We got our toddlers out of the water and into the shower ASAP. We couldn't use the lake for our last day and a half. When I messaged the hosts later, they said that they were sorry that this happened during our stay. They hadn't been notified about the herbicide treatment either. Still, we were paying guests that were unable to utilize the lake as planned. An offer to at lease reimburse us for lost lake time would have been appropriate and appreciated.

Beautiful lake house property
We loved this lake house property & our 2 family group really enjoyed our time there! The upstairs was perfect for our group of 6 kids to each have their own sleeping space but still be together. The house had all of the comforts of home & there wasn’t anything that seemed “missing” when we needed it. There are quite a bit of steps to the lake, but as long as we remembered everything we needed when we headed down then we were all good. The kids loved taking the kayaks out & the adults just stayed by the dock. The lake was so clear and we loved that the water was shallow off of the dock so that the kids could play without worries. The area was great too & we’ve already talked about planning a trip back!

Family weekend
Everything’s was fine. The Only think I want to say is the property is not really kid friendly. The stairs to the beach area was about 75 step one way. My husband who is in sharp thought he might have a heart attack 3/4 of the way up.. then after a short walk to the deck steps, it’s another 25 steps. The beach area was sandy, but not really for a 1 1/2 year old to play. I guess I expected more (?) I would recommend for older kids & adults. Peaceful and quite. Easy to find. Loon lake hiking area is minutes away.

Hale property
Large, clean house with everything you need. There's not much in Hale, but we found a couple of places to eat and it's a short trip to Tawas and Lake Huron with shops, etc. We heard the loons a couple of times but didn't see them. No beach, but water is pretty shallow by dock if you have little ones. Lots of stairs down to the lake so it might be hard for elderly people, but the view from back deck is still beautiful.

Spacious, clean & comfortable lakefront cottage
Enjoyed a relaxing weekend with my family on Loon Lake. Home was very clean, well equipped, spacious and had plenty of entertainment (books, games, some toys for kids, TV, WiFi). Plenty of seating for large groups (8-12) for dining and lounging and beds were comfortable. Plenty of towels and linens provided. Kitchen was well equipped. We really appreciated the (provided) large jug of drinking water since well water isn’t so tasty to drink! My kids really enjoyed having the upstairs loft all to themselves Views were great, we really enjoyed sipping coffee on the deck in the morning, so peaceful! And the large picture windows allow for great views even if you stay inside. Even though there are a lot of stairs down to the water, it was worth it. The landing with sturdy Adirondack chairs were a great place to relax. We caught plenty of fish right from the dock or just watched the kids wade / swim in the water. We also rented a pontoon boat one day and had a fantastic day of fishing catching all kinds of fish. My kids loved it! Lake didn’t have a lot of boat traffic so overall it was pretty quiet. We saw and heard plenty of geese, lions and even a family of eagles! If you’re looking for a quiet, peaceful lakefront getaway that has all the comforts of home, this fits the bill. The only thing we found it was lacking was a bathtub for our toddler, but we made do. Just something for other families with smaller children to be mindful of (although I did see an infant tub in the closet) Owners were very friendly, responsive and helpful with questions. We will definitely be back!
