Look, this isn’t a luxury property, and if that’s what you’re expecting, you may be disappointed. But if you’re open-minded and looking for a good value for a night or two, it’s worth considering. Overall, we enjoyed the experience. Here are some pros and a few cons.
The Good: The staff is very friendly, the location is convenient for both the airport and getting outside Reykjavik, and the kitschy design is fun.
The Cons: The bed… we were upgraded to the Viking Village, which we appreciated, but the beds were almost unsleepable for us. They are very firm—I’ve seen firm beds around the world, but this was on another level. Also, the cabin is more “glamping” than hotel, which was fine for us for two nights but might not be ideal for everyone. Finally, the breakfast was just not for us. Compared to other hotels in Scandinavia, it felt lacking and a bit dated.
Overall, we felt we got great value, and if we needed a short stay, we’d consider it again.
