The Sea Captain's Home is a lovingly restored hundred year old historic home in Gulfport. The sea captain who built this home to remind him of his time on the wide open ocean with the open sky above him and the wooden deck below. The huge windows give the home a unique openness, the high ceilings give you spaciousness, and the original plank floor is as close to the deck of his beloved ship that he could copy. It is large as he had a big family to welcome him each time he came back into port. There are 3 bedrooms, plus a room called a sleep porch--a unique porch for sleeping. Read more important information about it below.**
The Sea Captain's Home is located near casinos, restaurants, the harbor, and is a jumping off spot for all your vacation activities!
When you first arrive, you will see an ancient oak that is older than the 100-year old home. It gives shade to the wide porch that covers the front of the home, making it a great place to relax and read a book, listen to the birds, or just chill.
The interior of the home again is a combination of modern and antique. It features pieces from the Captain's day in each room as accents and for storage, without making you feel as if you are in someone's grandmother's home. The light-colored furniture adds to the openness of this home.
The living room is a huge room with large windows, lots of comfortable furniture to relax in, and a large TV for watching your favorite shows and sports.
The dining room is again roomy, with more open windows to let in the light, just like on an old boat. The kitchen has all the amenities one expects in an updated home, and is designed so that several cooks can work together preparing some of the fresh seafood this area is known for.
The bedding is an expensive brand known for its comfort. When you recline, you will know immediately that this is not an average mattress! The front bedroom has a king bed, the middle bedroom has two queen beds and a pass-through to the sleep porch, and the 3rd bedroom has a king bed.
**The sleep porch is setup with 2 twin beds, with each having a trundle underneath. This is the sleep porch that has many windows but no window coverings so the light and breeze can come in. You may choose to open or keep the windows closed depending on the climate. The sleeping porch is a true Southern feature in older homes in the South.
There are two bathrooms, a full-size washer and dryer, internet, streaming TV and all bedding and linens are provided. There are TVs in the 3 main bedrooms and in the living room.
The yard is spacious and shady. There is on-street parking, and an area where you can bring your boat and park it. The harbor is only about one half a mile away!!
Come sail into the history of The Sea Captain's Home and make some wonderful vacation memories! Bon Voyage!!
