Join us in beautiful Abruzzo for the perfect holiday! Abruzzo is the "green heart of Italy" with something for everyone. One third of Abruzzo is made up of National parks, and there is one right outside our door! Hiking, biking, nature walks, adventure parks, castles and ancient villages abound - you'll never run out of things to do - or do nothing, whatever you feel like.
Our 300 year old stone 'casale' (or farmhouse) offers a fully independent converted stable apartment of 150 square metres and is restored with all modern conveniences. The apartment still has the beautiful original stone and brick archways and hand made brick floors - you can see the hand prints of the brick masons still embedded in the bricks! There is one large bedroom, two sitting rooms (one has a large sleep sofa with a luxury mattress for two more guests), a large equipped kitchen, laundry room and bathroom with new rainfall shower.
The house is peaceful and quiet, but not remote. The medieval town of Guardiagrele (voted "one of the most beautiful towns in Italy) is 5 minutes away, you can see its old walls and homes along the skyline from the garden as the house is positioned right in Bocca di Valle (Mouth of the Valley) and receives lovely cooling breezes as you sit outside enjoying the fresh, clean air with your aperitivo in hand!
Also within a few minutes drive are the villages of Rapino and the mountaintop town of Pretoro, along with numerous others for exploring and dining. If it's a larger town you're looking for try a trip to Lanciano or Chieti. From the house you have a view of the mountains and only 40 minutes drive is the Adriatic coast with all its lovely Blue Flag beaches. Rome is 2.5 hours easy and pretty drive (or take one of the frequent buses) and the local airport in Pescara is only 40 minutes away. Pick up/drop off is available and local car rentals can be arranged.
Traditional restaurants abound, whether you're looking to enjoy homemade pizza or local fish, fresh-caught (a trip to one of the Trabocchi, or old fishing platforms transformed into restaurants) should not be missed. Abruzzo specializes in traditional homemade cuisine using only the freshest in-season ingredients and the local wine and olive oil are something to fill your suitcase with before you go home! You won't find anyone friendlier than the local Abruzzese and they would love to chat with you as you sit in one of the local piazzas enjoying a glass of wine even if neither of you speaks the others language!
A year-round slice of heaven, it's even possible when weather conditions are right to ski in the mountains in the morning and swim at the beach in the afternoon!
