Good hotel to stay in the winter season. I've stayed here in the summer and found the aircon to be inadequate for the subtropical climate. It's not a problem when the outside temp is less than 20 C.
Being on my own most of the stay, I eat at the buffet dinner. For guests, the dinner is discounted to a very reasonable price. The only drawback is the occasional bus tour that crowds the restaurant making it difficult to get food from the stations.
The hotel is very central, but the immediate area is unpleasant. The back of the hotel sits on one of the canals in the city that smells and operates as a sewer. If you go for a walk to the park or cross the canal, be prepared for odor.
There's a starbucks next door at the grand noble hotel. I've stayed at the grand noble as well; it's more expensive, but has different drawbacks that make the Mercure attractive.
