The house was very clean and we loved the layout. Very roomy. We have musicians as friends and the layout made playing very convenient. Loved the short walk to town as well.
Our stay was absolutely perfect!! The cottage was exceptionally clean and well stocked with kitchen supplies and utensils needed for cooking any meal, games and books. Location was the best with being only a couple minutes from the beaches. I would stay at Carters Cottage again in a heartbeat. Thank you for a wonderful stay during our main summer vacation!

Stay at Grand Marais
House was in the village. Short walk to beach on harbor, picnic tables with grills, and downtown restaurants. Easy access to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Would rent this property again.
This was the perfect rental for 2 couples on a side-by-side trip. The house is bigger than it seems in the pictures and the house has a great layout. The laundry room was so convenient, because when we would get back from riding we could throw our dusty clothes in the washer before entering the main part of the house. It kept everything and everyone cleaner. The house is extremely close to downtown and near by trails, great location. I would definitely stay there again, I was very impressed.
Place was nice, good location with a short walk to downtown. Updated appliances with an oversized washing machine. It was nice having two bedrooms with two bathrooms.
It was very nice and we really liked being able to use the garage for our machines at night. TV streaming was great as well. We think it would be nice to be able to sleep 3-4 people. It was just 2 of us this trip to Grand Marais.
Nice place to stay. Beds were clean and comfortable. Clean and everything was in working order.
We combed the beach, Lake Superior was at it normal 40 degree water temp. COLD, but you could get used to it.
Nice diner in town. Make sure you bring the groceries you will use as there isn't much in town for groceries.
From the outside photo it looks small but inside it's quite spacious. The main living area is all open, kitchen on one end and the living area on the other. Nice Roku and TV, and wi-fi works fine. Two bathrooms and two bedrooms. Laundry room has new looking Kenmore equipment. Propane heat. No AC but it's rarely needed. Ceiling fan in living area and the larger bedroom. One half mile into town, easy to walk if you want. Pleasant and safe neighborhood and park in the driveway off the road. My wife & I would stay here again if & when we get back to GM.
Very clean, plenty of comfortable seating in living-room. No air-conditioning but fans helped keep it cooler in the house. Great restaurants. Residents very welcoming and helpful. Great vacation!
Only issue was communication regarding the reservation we made on 4/24/23. My first time using VRBO. Was not aware the payment for the reservation was handled separately through the rental's management company (Lake Superior Vacation Rentals). That should have been made clearer. As a result, I thought we had a reservation but was unsure when I received an email from LSVR,on 9/8/23 (after free cancellation date) regarding final payment.
After repeated phone calls & emails to LSVR, around 9/8/23, with no response to clarify reservation and payment, we contacted VRBO. That's when we learned that payment was not taken out at the time the reservation was made 4/24/23. VRBO was also unable to reach LSVR. With our vacation approaching fast, we ended up making reservations elsewhere just in case.
LSVR did not call, email or contact me again until 9/23/23. From 9/8/23 to 9/23/23, we didn't know whether we still had a reservation or not. VRBO and Lake Superior Vacation Rental Communication need to communicate clearer at reservation time.
We ended up cancelling our stand-by reservation once our original reservation was confirmed. That shouldn't have happened. From 9/8/23 to 9/23/23, we were scrambling around to find an alternative reservation. It was unnecessary stress.
My family stays in the U.P. every summer. We love rock hounding and the peace and quiet in the U.P. This was the first time that we had stayed in Grand marais. The house was very clean and quiet. I would definitely recommend this home to everyone. Convenient walk to downtown to great restaurants, awesome ice cream stand, and cute little grocery store. Close to some of the most beautiful Rock beaches in my opinion. Also very close to pictured rocks National Lakeshore. Which is a must see if you are in the area. This home is a wonderful place to stay. I would love to stay in this home again. My only suggestion would be manager or owner answering questions before your stay. Thank you for letting us stay in your wonderful home
Our family had an amazing stay at Carter's place! The amenities were perfect for my wife, two young daughters and myself, plenty of space and the two bathrooms were a bonus. The kitchen was stocked with every appliance and utensil that we needed (this has been an issue for us at many places we've stayed around the US). It was a short walk to downtown, the beach and where the rest of my extended family was staying, we never felt the need to use the car unless the destination was out of town. We will definitely look into staying here again!
Carter’s Cottage is a cute, quaint, “home away from home.” The house is conveniently located on a Main Street, just a short walk from all things Grand Marais (including beautiful Lake Superior). It has everything you will need…all we brought was food and personals. We did not spend much time at the house (we spent our days touring the UP)…but were able to use our home cable to watch movies in the evenings (WiFi was great). It does not have AC…but the breeze from the lake kept it comfortable. It was just the spot for our long weekend….and the area will not disappoint!
We enjoy our stay. We especially like that it was within walking distance to the town.
The place was clean and organized. Would definitely recommend to others.
