"Amazing hotel. Renovated modern within the old building. Sitting on the castle grounds but hot within the castle walls. Easy access to the city center and the castle itself, which is amazing. For those who want to explore the surroundings, Weilburg and its castle is close by, the Kubacher Tropfsteinhoehle is a great attraction during the summer and all is close from this hotel. I am looking forward to coming back here. I have family in Braunfels and used to stay there but this is a great alternative and really a comfortable and great way to stay. I had breakfast with my family but it looks like they have an amazing breakfast buffet so something to consider. If you want to eat outside across the street is Konditorei Vogler, a well known master baker. They offer a breakfast as well (you may have to make reservations there, especially during busy season) Either way, stop in there and get something at one point, he is an amazing chef."

"I mean the main reason to stay here is the proximity to all things Leica, however it’s a nice place on its own. Special shout to Omid in Oskar’s for being so great. Would love to come back again. "

"The hotel looks like a tiny hamlet of old farm buildings which have recently been renovated. A definite rustic feel to it. Parking is 100 m in front of the hamlet. Hotels.com failed to list this hotel as having a restaurant. As such I ate junk food on the way to the hotel, only to find the perfect restaurant for me. I made space for a delicious salmon salad and wonderful glass of Riesling! The room was good and I slept very well. The only missing utility which I always need as a business traveller, was a desk. I suspect, this would also effect females needing a dressing table. I was shown an alternative room with a tiny glass table. Anyway, it didn't spoil my stay. Wonderful staff. Not too expensive. Great hotel and I would definitely stay again."

"Rooms are small, no fridge, no closet. Rooms are clean. I wanted to change the room to a double bed instead of 2 twin beds, and the wanted to charge me for the room again!"

"Wir hatten zahlreiche Ferienwohnungen anlässlich unserer Rundreise durch Deutschland. Manche waren enttäuschend, einige waren so gut, dass wir dachten dies sei der beste Standard. Die Sandmühle hat neue Standards gesetzt. Ein Hof im besten hessischen Fachwerkstil, eine Wohnung mit schweren Balken, die die Decke, leicht kurvig halten, moderne Doppelglasfenster im alten Stil, ein Mix aus modernster Küche mit buchstäblich ALLEM, gemischt mit einer Möbelausstattung aus zwei Jahrhunderten und den bequemsten Betten mit Tempurschaumliegefläche. Ein Bad mit grosszügiger Dusche PLUS Badewanne, eine separate Waschstube mit Waschmaschine und Trockner (kostenfreie Benutzung!), ein grosses Wohnzimmer mit geschmackvoller Mischung von alten Möbeln mit einem modernen Sofa. Knarzende Holzdielen mit perfekter Oberfläche, das Ganze luftig und hell. 2 Aussensitze für die, die entweder die Sonne oder den Schatten suchen. Blumen und Grünpflanzen rundum, Hofkatzen, die zu Besuch kommen, Eine natürliche Umgebung, die Frieden ausstrahlt. Ein Begrüssungstrunk hessischen Biers im Kühlschrank, eigene Hofeier und gute selbstgeschöpfte Butter zur Begrüssung. Die Familie Ochs hat hier ein Paradies geschaffen und es fällt schwer wieder abzufahren! Das einzige, was es aus unserer amerikanischen Sicht noch zu ergänzen gäbe, wäre der Komfort einer Klimaanlage. Aber das wäre auch ein wenig pervers - es sei denn sie wäre solar stromversorgt. "Loved the cherry forest, the local restaurant, the open family space, the hot tub, just everything was wonderful. The only difficulty was the steep slope of the upstairs bedrooms which made for quite a few head bumps. Also the slippery stairs (watch out!). It was a perfect location for visiting our family and sightseeing."
