We stayed the last week of September at the La Terrase villa in the Borgo Mommialla old village. We were a couple and the villa was the perfect size for us. There was a small kitchen, a small sitting room with a sofa (that looked like it may pull out as a sofa bed, but we didn't require this during our stay), an inside dining area, a double bedroom with a large, firm very comfortable mattress and a bathroom. There was also a lovely outside private terrace with table and chairs to enjoy lunch/tea outside in the warm weather. The pool area was about 3 minutes walk from the villa down some steps and then up a very short small ascent. There were sun loungers, umbrellas and tables to sit things on. The view from the pool area is lovely. From both the pool and the villa terrace Volterra can be seen along the skyline in the distance. The pool water was very cold when we were there, but once you get in you get used to it, and it was nice on the days when it was very hot. The villa was well equipped with glasses, mugs, plates, cutlery and pots and pans for cooking, the only item we could not find was a chopping board, so we just used a plate, but it may have been that we just could not find it. There was a bottle opener (most important thing!) and large fridge with a freezer tray at the top. There was a bottle of olive oil and a bottle of red wine left on the dining table as gifts when we arrived, that was a lovely touch. The place was really clean and tidy. There were two TV's, one in the bedroom and one in the living room, but we didn't use these all week as we wanted to get away from it all! The directions provided by the villa owner were excellent, so it was easy to find with a combination of these and google maps on our phones. There were two lovely restaurants that we ate at during our stay; Boscotondo- relaxed and great food, with very reasonable prices, and Le Tre Case, which was also lovely a little further from villa, but both within 10 minutes drive. You really need to have a hire car to get to this place and be able to get around to Volterra/San Gimignano. There did not seem to be any children around the village during our stay which was great, as it was lovely and peaceful, but not sure if it is adult only officially or not. Our only negative was that there were people smoking around the pool, I am not sure if it was meant to be non smoking or not, but it would be nice if it was non smoking and this was enforced. Would definitely stay again.
