July hiking vacation
This cabin is amazing! Very authentic, mountain cabin and a more modern basement for variety. We loved it! Only issues were minor, such as low water pressure, especially when more than one of us was showering, no hot water in the downstairs shower, and ants on the kitchen counter, but no biggies, we still loved it and would do it again! Hopefully we’ll get back someday!

Eclectic hunting lodge in the Virginia mountains
The property is as advertised, the living area is quite spacious. It is a large cabin with a lot of decoration and collectibles inside, telling stories of mountaineering, hunting, diving and cave research. The location is on the North-Eastern edge of the George Washington National Forest. Some hiking trails along the Fort Valley are very close by, you can start right at the property. There are two fire pits and a gas grill outside, plenty of wood as well. An indoor fireplace would have been nice, as we stayed there in winter.

Great escape
Fun cabin on beautiful property that was .10 miles from the Buzzard Rock trail. Grandkids loved the “dance party” shower with lights & music. AT&T customers had some internet access, Verizon customers had none. A ton of TV’s but they did not work without internet. Directions on getting each device to work would be helpful. We actually had a great time playing games & playing outside. We literally did not want to leave. Thank you for a great place to relax & reconnect as a family. We would rent again!

Stay at Buzzard Rock Farm
Overall, this was a spacious and interesting house. The location was great and the grounds were pretty with a trail and plenty of bird watching available. There were plenty of spices, and equipment in the kitchen was good. Loved the Belgian waffle machine and the griddle. The music cassettes and CDs were fantastic, and we wished we'd had brought a record player! The wifi password given was wrong, but we found it on the modem in the house. Additionally, using the TVs was a challenge because none of the TVs were hooked up properly.

Nice property, fun decor, our daughters enjoyed exploring all the rooms and also using the provided wood for a fire in the fire pit outside. We found it convenient for hiking in the north section of Shenandoah National Park. Unfortunately, communication was non-existent. I had a question after we left (accidentally left a muffin baking pan behind that could be a problem for future guests because it leaks - I use paper cupcake liners so not a problem for me) and never heard back from either "contact" I sent an email to. I expected at least a thank-you for the warning about the leak, before their oven got dripped on. The grab supports for the claw foot tub (neat bathroom decor!) were placed too high/far away to help unless you're over 6' tall (I'm 5'10"). They have signs warning not to hold onto the pipes, but they're the only thing close enough for most people to reach. I was surprised to discover that owners apparently interested in hunting use scented laundry detergent on all linens. Don't they realize that the strong scents used in most laundry products these days will rub off on anything in contact with the washed item? No hoping skittish wildlife will come close for photography after sitting on the bed unless you're downwind. I'm allergic to fragrances but fortunately the weather was nice enough to open up windows and I had my own pillow and towel so I was able to minimize the problem. And I know to ask in the future.

Friends and I came to the area to take our Jeeps on the Peters Mill Run trail. This house was the best location. Close to trails and a short drive to caverns, Luray and Skyline.

Unique stay with plenty to do and see!
We had a great time exploring the unique pieces all throughout the house. It has plenty to do inside if the weather isn't cooperating and a great fire pit and grounds to explore if it is. Water pressure wasn't great, but the showers are nice and didn't have any issues. We had plenty to do just at the property, but it's also a great home base for a medium to large group visiting Shenandoah!

Great Cabin for Shenandoah
This cabin is in an excellent location close to the skyline caverns/drive. The kitchen is well stocked with every utensil you could possibly need and the bathrooms are modern. TVs in all bedrooms and other living areas. Games and puzzles for the kids downstairs were a bonus. We stayed as a family with 4 children aged 5-11. The house is jam packed with hunting stuff and sharp woodworking tools which may be hazardous for inquisitive children. Although there is a wood burning stove in the living room this was not available to guests due to insurance. This was disappointing as we were hoping to do s’mores with the kids. That said there is a fire pit (of sorts) in the back yard. The outside area requires a lot of work and is obviously undergoing landscaping. Unfortunately, tools required for this were scattered around the yard and this could be dangerous for kids. However, there was plenty of other space for them to run around and once the yard is finished it will be great.

An eclectic, unique experience in an inviting home
We had a lovely stay at this fascinating house. We picked it because the living room looked like one of those "spot the difference" photos in the Post Magazine. It's not perfectly organized or free of dust bunnies, but it's well-stocked with almost everything you'll need. More importantly, every single knick-knack has a story to dig into with your friends on a chilly fall evening. The location is great: it's just 10 miles off the main drag in Front Royal and adjacent to tons of great hiking spots. (If you're feeling adventuresome, you'll find the secret way to get onto the Massanutten Trail towards Buzzard Rock right from the property, avoiding the Buzzard Rock parking lot that is historically full). This is a pretty new rental so the outside is still improving. There's some half-finished construction projects, lots of farm clutter right at the driveway, and other things you wouldn't find at an established rental. Stumbling upon the creepy/cool "man shack" in the woods made us feel like anthropologists writing about a man only from the traces he left behind. However, the inside of the main farmhouse is completed, welcoming, and wired, with all of the furniture and gadgets you'd expect. We spent a great weekend exploring, hiking, sitting around the fire pit, and browsing the extensive map, magazine, and caving collection. We're looking forward to coming back some day when everything outside is finished! Notes for parents: (1) The house is as cluttered as the pictures show -- if you have kids that get into everything you may have a stressful visit. However, we felt pretty safe with a 1 and 5 year-old. We just had to move a few of the saws and knives up the walls temporarily! (2) Sound travels through the walls and lots of things are creaky or squeaky. We had our 1-year-old in the big cedar closet upstairs but in hindsight it would have been better to stay downstairs in the (more modern, less squeaky) basement (3) There's lots of electronics with flashing lights and blue LEDs throughout the house so be ready to cover things up with towels or wear sleep masks!
