Gorgeous 4-Bedroom Island Retreat With Island/ Water Views; Sleeps 12

Get away from it all in this luxuriantly appointed, beautiful 4-bedroom home with spectacular water and territorial views. So quiet all you can hear is the swish of birds’ wings.
Samadhi House is perched atop Mt. Dallas, the highest point on San Juan Island in Washington state. It boasts spectacular views of Haro Strait (separates the US from Canada), the Canadian Gulf Islands, Vancouver Island, and forested mountains. Surrounded by the glories of NW nature, you can’t see a single house. But you will watch as cruise liners silently head towards Alaska and eagles and hawks soar overhead. You may even spot the occasional whale breaching in the Strait. At night, you’ll see the distant lights of Victoria and Sydney B.C. The perfect private retreat! In addition, you will enjoy art collected from around the world, and can relax and heal in our Sunlighten infrared sauna.

Samadhi house is a perfect getaway for those seeking peace, exquisite views, and fun on the island. Ideal for families and mature adults. Not appropriate for those seeking a spot to party. Owner/manager on premises in separate housing. (See pictures.)

Wonderful, isolated getaway perched high on the mountain.
Ajayan (host) communicated well and provided a lovely mountain cottage high on Dallas mountain with a beautiful view of the water and distant islands and mountains. It was a very meditative experience!!

Marvelous San Juan House – Transcendent Experience
This marvelous place on San Juan Island was exactly as advertised. The home itself is gorgeous. It has wonderful amenities, beautiful light, and it makes the absolute most of the incredible view it has of the rest of the island and the Haro Strait. The host is also fantastic – friendly, proactive, and easy to communicate with. Can't really ask for more.

Awesome sunsets!
Property was peaceful, quiet and secluded with the most incredible views of Vancouver Island. We enjoyed the island visiting Lime Kiln Point State Park, Cattle point Lighthouse and Friday Harbor. Very nice home for a family retreat. Thanks to Ajayan for being helpful and available for any questions that we had.

Worth the price and that saying something. If you want a peace you won’t want to leave for your entire trip, this is it. Best sunset in the island.

Samadhi House
Our multi-generational family of 9 had a wonderful week in this house on San Juan Island. The views from the house including sunsets are spectacular., and there are plenty of activities on the island. Our week was unseasonably warm, and we recommend a couple of additional fans for such times.

Peace & Tranquility
If you seek peace & tranquility this is the rental for you. 4 bedrooms, 8 beds and sleeping for 12 assuming some are couples who sleep together. Perfect for larger groups that want a quiet, remote, rental with spectacular views. San Juan Island not that large so this location works wherever your island adventure takes you. I do not recommend driving to this location in the dark.

Wonderful two week family reunion
Ajayan and his daughter Sudha were wonderful hosts during our stay, and it was reassuring that they live nearby. Our communication was instant, and they were ready to attend to any question or need without hesitation. Views are spectacular, and the floorplan was perfect for our various families. We did most of our own cooking and the kitchen and dining areas were big enough for our clan. The wrap around deck provided play areas for the little ones, and evening guitar and sing-a-longs for the group. We would love to make another trip to San Juan, and will be happy to stay here again!

Family Vacation
We had a wonderful time at Samadhi Hiuse and spent a lot of time enjoying the amazing views from the deck and watching the hummingbirds. Beds were comfortable and we had plenty of sleeping space for 12. Very close to Lime Kiln Park as well as San Juan County Park. Had a great selection of games and easy to hook up a phone to the sound system for music. Kitchen had everything we needed - even an Instant Pot! Owner was very responsive to our questions and answered quickly.

Best Birthday Ever
I had a wonderful time. The weather cooperated. Had wonderful sunsets. Could of used a bigger kitchen and more space to put kitchen supplies, groceries not needing refrigeration. Got into watching Virgin River at night. Went kayacking, whale watching... saw 27 whales and about 20 sea lions, hiked, saw the lavender farm and store, went to American Camp and British camp, the winery, and saw many Eagles. Thank You for sharing your home. Mary

Almost Heaven
Our group of 10 stayed here recently to celebrate my 60th birthday. While the drive up the last part of the hill was a bit intimidating, the view from the deck and the floor to ceiling windows makes you quickly forget any troubles. From the minute you enter this house you feel an immediate sense of peace and tranquility, and the natural beauty surrounding you is just overwhelming. We spent our days exploring beautiful San Juan Island and in the evening we prepared some outstanding meals and just relaxed on the deck mesmerized by the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen. Without television and electronic devices we spent quality time enjoying each others' company and everyone agreed it was a trip we will never forget.

Remote spot with beautiful views
The property was lovely. Very spiritual. It was very remote, and as other reviews have suggested, I highly recommend arriving when there's still some daylight if possible. (We arrived at night and it was fine.) Also, make sure to follow the directions to the house provided by the owners; Google Maps stops short of getting you to the destination. That said, it is a beautiful spot. The house was very well-stocked with spices, tea, coffee, dish detergent, etc. My one suggestion to be aware of is that the amount of space is a little misleading. Two of the rooms are quite small, with little space to unpack, so some of us "lived out of our suitcases" for the four days we were there. The other two rooms are quite large. We had not read all the reviews, so we were a little surprised to find a yurt quite close to the house, but to be fair, the owner's daughter, who was presumably staying in it in the evenings, was very respectful of our privacy. The owner, Ajayan, was very responsive and easy to reach if necessary. All in all, it is a beautiful spot, particularly if you want to be remote and in a gorgeous setting.

Clean, comfortable, lovely space with great views
8 of us enjoyed a sweet June stay at this hilltop home. Complete amenities and comfort, 4 bathrooms, everything expected for a comfortable stay is provided. The house is surrounded by tall trees that still allow full views over the strait to Canada. The nearest shoreline (10 minutes' drive) is also the best shore for orca viewing on the island. We spent some picnic lunches there and saw bald eagles and a seal, however the only orcas seen were on whale watch boats. We had cellular signal (T Mobile, ATT and Verizon among our group) at the house. The owner responded quickly to a couple of queries. Only cons to mention are very slow WiFi (apparently due to remote location), and no TV signal, although we did play a previously downloaded movie. The final couple hundred yards to the house is a steep dirt/gravel road & driveway approach. We had light rain and were still able to drive to the house, I do not know if heavy rain would make access more slippery.

Samadhi house
Nice house lively view. The kitchen was well supplied. Both bathrooms have deep jet tubs. This made it difficult for 2 of our ladies that have knee and balance issues. There was a walk-in shower upstairs. Again, same issues. But we had a good time. The sunsets were amazing. There are a couple things I wish we would have known before booking. It is on a primitive (rough) road with a steep gravel driveway. Some cars would really have trouble. Also, the fact that the entrance to the house is up 2 flights of stairs. The 4 beds on lower level can not be reached from inside the house. They are like a separate apt. I feel those things should be information to have before you decide to rent. If they are not an issue for your group, then enjoy your time.

Gorgeous View
The house is lovely, and the view from the deck is magnificent. When we were at the house, we spent all of our time outside. It is very isolated (which is wonderful), and it might be hard to find without Ajayan’s excellent directions. We were a large group—6 adults and 5 young children. We enjoyed a glass of wine on the deck each night, but there were only 3 mismatched wine glasses. A few more would have been nice. The bathtub on the main floor was so clogged when we got there that we couldn’t use it, but there were 2 others to share. The master bedroom is fabulous—very large with a view of the water. However, the 2 bedrooms on the main level are quite small. There is a very nice children’s room on the lower level; I think that the house would be more suited for older rather than younger children. I would highly recommend that you take pictures of any existing damage when you arrive—scratches on furniture, stains on carpets, cracks on glasses, etc. It must so difficult for an owner and housekeeper to ascertain when damage has occurred. With pictures, you will have a record.

5 stars views- 1 star garbage expectations
The house is well appointed with a Budda theme. There are prayer flags and wind chimes that add to the decor and flavor. Our family fit nicely into the house with the downstairs room providing lots of space for the little ones to run and play. Unfortunately, when we visited the temperature were in the 80's. With no fans to circulate the air, the house became stifling during the daytimes. We would wait for it to cool off during evening hours after the sunset. Between the heat and the hornets, we barely used the deck- one of the best features of Samadi House. The views are incredible and our entire family enjoyed the sunsets. When it came time to pack up, the list of chores was not unreasonable except for the expectation that we would take all of our garbage with us. This caused a debate within our family- should we follow the expectations or should we leave our garbage in the basement with the other garbage that was overflowing? There were no additional containers. We decided to to the responsible thing and take our garbage with us. I can tell you, even triple bagged, it smelled all the way to town. Did you know that there is no public disposal for garbage on San Juan Island? You either have to sneak and drop it in someone's dumpster or you have to remove it from the island in your vehicle. We, asked a resident if we could deposit the garbage (some of it with baby diapers) in their container. She, thankfully, graciously consented. Through the years, we have rented different properties on San Juan Island and we have never been asked to haul our own garbage- having backpacked- we are firm believers in pack it in- pack it out but not when you are paying a top price point. It is a deal breaker.

The VRBO web pics are not up to date. Very Disappointing House for such Beautiful Views.
We arrived and before we carried in our things, we had to sweep the floors, wipe down the countertops, the table & seats of the table chairs. Three of our guests had hairs on their sheets, and one guests sheets looked very dirty....to the point that HE slept in his clothes to avoid contact with the bedding. There was also no coffee pot, and there were dirty socks on the porch. You cannot unpack due to full drawers & either full or locked closets. When you pay that kind of money for a home, you at least expect it to be clean. We reached out to the home owner about the house being dirty & he was unable to get anyone there to clean. The ONLY accurate thing about this home are the beautiful views, they are probably some of the best on the island, I will give them that. The photos on VRBO's booking website are not current photos of the home. The home is decorated in a VERY personal way. There are many many artifacts throughout the home from the owners travels, and some of them are very sexual in nature, and very inappropriate for a family of any ages. If the current photos of the home had been on the booking website, we would of never booked this home just on that basis. The bunk room can't be accessed from the main part of the house, it is accessible only by going out the back door & down the stairs of the deck & then it is located underneath the house. We had to put our 19&21 year old daughter out there, and then if you want them to be able to get back in the house during the night you can't lock the doors, so the security of the home is lacking. There is one of the bedrooms that has a wall of books, and there are alot of them that are VERY sexual in nature, so moving our girls to that room was inappropriate. We had been planning our vacation for months and just wanted to enjoy our trip to the San Juan islands with our family. We had to move to another house to be able to do this as we did not even feel comfortable cooking in this house. This was at our own expense, and the owner was only willing to refund us one of our 7 nights. We are NOT difficult people, just expect to arrive to a clean house, have a coffee maker & especially expect to know what we are getting based on the pictures that sold the house to us. We would of NEVER booked this house if the pictures had shown even some what accurate depictions of the house. There is also construction going on at the house site as well that we weren't aware of.

Beautiful location
We enjoyed our stay. The property was beautiful and as described and depicted in the pictures. WiFi was robust enough for streaming and work purposes. We were late in making ferry reservations and originally had an 8 pm ferry scheduled. But were able to move it up at the last moment to the 4 pm sailing. This was good because the house is at the end of a curvy rural road and gravel lane with lots of turns and it would be very difficult to find in the dark. Entering the address in google maps will bring you close but will miss the very last turn so follow the printed directions and consult the actual google map. The owners have a lot of Asian art and decor so it might not be the best rental for families with little kids who have curious hands. If our kids had still been toddlers I would have been stressed about all the breakables in the home. The master site is huge and gorgeous but is open loft-style to the rest of the house and sound echoes with all the wood. So not great if you want to sleep while others chat or watch TV downstairs. The views are unbeatable and you can see the lights of Victoria BC at night. We will definitely return.

Amazing views, stunningly peaceful
Went with a group of six friends and had a great time. The view is pretty unbeatable, and all the amenities we could have wanted were there. We cooked together with the gas stove and the grill and played games at the eight-person dining table—perfect for our stay. The downstairs area with many (5) beds is a separate, locked entrance but connected via the deck. Would be perfect for kids or folks that don't mind the summer camp vibes of the beds crammed together. The only thing to note is if you have a heavier two-wheel-drive vehicle (e.g. a minivan) you may want to park in the upper parking area and walk down, as there is a pretty steep grade on gravel between the two sections. We initially parked a minivan in the lower area and had to back it up the hill after the first two attempts spun the wheels on the way up. This house is gorgeous, with beautiful windows and wraparound deck that the pictures don't do justice. You can stargaze at night, enjoy a misty morning in the forest, and watch the sun set over the islands in the distance at dusk. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
