Mostly closed from hurricane.
Most of Grand Lucayan is closed from hurricane Mathew but you don't know this until you arrive. All guests have to stay at Lighthouse point which is nice but with not nearly as many amenities. 2 less pools , less convenient dining options, the Casino never reopened. Some of the staff, outdoor bar. Towel hut, seemed to have lost that happy, helpful, attitude, one bartender was even rude everyday. While others were their usual respectful, helpful Bahamian spirit They hours of restaurants were not helpful for ease of dining choices, as with when The Grand Lucayan. I mainly wish we were informed of the arrangements change as we were booked at G.L. with all advertised opened 6 months in advance . Notice would have been nice so we may have changed our accommodations.

Hotel was alright, but not what expected
Hotel was in okay condition since the hurricane, but not up to the standards of the cost. Pool was clean, but drinks and meals were very expensive. Marketplace has much better food and prices. Was on hold with front desk for two different occasions of over 10 minutes. Rooms weren't ready when they should've been and we were canal front when we paid for oceanfront. Overall, location is great in Freeport, but the accommodations of the hotel were nothing to write home about.

Grand Lucayan is Closed!!
Hurricane Matthew last fall has devistated this Island. We booked the Grand Lucayan but were informed it was closed due to the hurricane. The casino was also closed. At the Lighthouse Point, where they put us up was in sad need of repair. Our first room had mechanical issues. The second room had no hot water. The only place to eat other than the buffet at the hotel was at the straw market across the street. Lot of money for poor quality food. The straw market was full of tourist trinkets. My review would be DON'T STAY HERE.

Hope continues to prosper
This is a great area to stay. The hotel staff were all pleasant and accommodating. The spa experience was very relaxing and a good value, especially considering the setting. It is so unfortunate the last hurricane caused the facility to not be up to its glory of years past, however, for us, it is worth returning whenever we can to help build it back up. The hotel sits along a very pretty beach and is big enough that if you want more quiet than the festivities that may be going on at the pool, quiet can be easily found.

Excellent beach Resort
Main hotel is closed due to the recent hurricane damage. We were accommodated in more cozy Lighthouse side of the Resort. We chose the room with the ocean view - we strongly recommend it due to the beauty of the beach and ocean - vs buildings view. Room was a nice size one, very clean and nicely furnished. Maid was cleaning very well and changing our sheets daily! Amazing. Food for in-room service is expensive and not so great! I would recommend eating at the resort restaurant instead. There is a hot tub and two pools nearby, also a bar with nice cold drinks $7.50 a piece. Food is greasy: french fries and conch, bar food. People are very friendly. There is a Spa- but prices are same as in the USA $65.00 and above - up to $225 or so. I thought its just not worth it.

Great stay for relaxation on the beach
Hotel was really nice and clean, very few people around (esp. given that it was January) - made it perfect for what we needed. If you want privacy and relaxation, this would be the place to go in January. The room itself was very clean, comfortable. Housekeeping came twice a day - we never went without bath towels. The gym facilities were great, practically empty every time we went. The beach was almost deserted, and felt like a private beach. There are a huge variety of food options in the Port Lucaya Marketplace right across the street from the hotel (would recommend to go there for food!). The breakfast buffet at Grand Lucayan was fine, service was good.

Beautiful view, very close to the beach
My hotel room was about 50 feet from the beautiful beach. The hotel room was clean and spacious. The only criticism is that customer service needs to be improved, e.g. whenever I ordered room service, it usually took 1 hour or more for my meal to be delivered to my room. Apart from this, I had a great experience at this hotel.

Not flexible or friendly
The day of the checkout which is 11:00 AM i was asking if possible to stay a little longer since my plane was leaving in the evening. Normally this is not a problem of most hotels and since the hotel was almost empty, i was a bit disappointed that any courtesy extension was denied, but i could stay until 3 PM by paying almost a full daily rate, which i declined. The person behind the counter could care less, and i will not care to come back to this hotel.

Great location but nothing to do
Stayed here from September 22nd - 25th had a Marina View on the 10th floor, the view was absolutely amazing! Check in was a breeze was scared at first from the reviews I read the young guy that checked us in was a sweetheart. The Hotel was a bit quiet (not really use to that) it really can use a entertainment team, walking around I personally like to participate in games and win prizes but I only saw board games, connect four, corn hole there were ping pong tables but no paddles to play 😅 Plantation cafe has a wonderful staff especially Clover and Denise the pastries was great (shoutout to the Pastry team) didn't eat on property but went over to Port Lucaya and had breakfast, lunch, and dinner there. Really good Bahamian food and the prices are reasonable. Back to the hotel the beaches were well kept along with the whole property, i loved the spa and the treatment they gave me. My vacation was great and would return soon.

All the staff was very polite and helpful, they went above and beyond duty to help there guest. The rooms were very clean and nice. Crystal and Rhonda went above and beyond to assist my husband and I with a problem we had with our Tarvel agency, setting in the phone for several hour to ensure the problem was corrected. They also updated our room because of the frustation and long wait from the travel agency, which they won't responsiable for at all. I would recommend everyone that goes to Freeport Bahamas to stay with grand lucayan.

Nice hotel on the beach with great activities.
My stay at the Grand Lucayan was very relaxing and fun filled. I went on two great excursions the bonfire and the city tour I had so much fun. The hotel had a short supply of beach towels and I wasn't crazy about the food. The staff was friendly and courteous. The stores the markets and restaurants were directly across the street. I would definitely come back again.

Great hotel, except for swimming pool
Very enjoyable and relaxing experience. Only criticism was with the cleanliness of the main swimming pool. I know there's only so much that can be done with a shared pool, but there was a lot of trash and debris in the bottom and floating, and I never saw anyone cleaning or sanitizing the pool, not even late night or early morning. One day while I was in the pool, a family had their toddler in diapers in the pool, and someone threw out food (pizza) next to the pool causing a swarm of seagulls. The gulls fought each other and much of the food got dropped into the pool. I tried to stay in one of the side pools that was not as heavily used and it was reasonably clean, but the main pool no way!

Waste of money
The staff is unfriendly, not helpful and overall not knowledgeable about the property services or amenities. The food was like eating convienence store goods. Dessert tastes like nothing more than little Debbie's. The only thing going for it is the beach and the view. Off the property we found a nice snorkel tour and had a great day snorkeling and enjoying the crystal clear waters. Rainbow reef was full of fish with a large variety. However, the resort facilities aren't worth the cost. Very disappointed in Grand Bahama and the Grand Lucayan.

Stay somewhere else
The staff was not helpful. There are too many rules. (pool, towels, drink huts,) Many items were broken and terribly dated and stained. Bathroom fixtures leaked and areas were not clean. Rooms, although were to be non smoking, smelled of smoke. Had to be moved three times to find a almost OK functioning room.

I go to Grand Bahama twice a year and have been doing it for 15 years. I stay at the Grand Lacayan. You might say I like the place. I find the service to be friendly, the resturants both in the hotel and in the adjacent shopping area outside the hotel to be quite satisfactory. All of which is within walking distance of your room. There is no need for a car. The hotel is on a most magnificant beach overlooking the blue green ocean of the Atlantic, the Gulf stream. The pools before the beach are most inviting. There is a spa and fitness facility and a golf course a shuttle bus away. Then again you might say I like the place

love location and staff
We have stayed at this location 3 or 4 times and are always happy with the service. Our only regret is out of the 3 or 4 visits the air conditioning has had issues twice. The room wouldn't cool down for about 24 hrs. Still, the location is wonderful on a great beach with water sports and across the street from the market for shopping and places to eat. We love this hotel.

PLEASE READ before you book
Our three day vacation was spent walking up and down 7 flights of stairs in the pitch black. The Power was out for 2 days and we were told "its not our fault" yet other properties in the vicinity had electric. The emergency stairs were at the back of property and they had no working emergency lighting. Mind you this also means there was NO AIR CONDITION working at all.. People relied on their cell phones for light in the stairs hallways and rooms. And what was worse was that no consideration was made by staff, nor any type of compensation. At check out, the long list of "additional Charges" they actually charge a fee for "Electric Service" of $10.00+/day..... What an insulting and horrible bahamas experience!

Two of my three day trip was spent climbing seven flights of stairs in the pitch black because the hotel and no electricity, no backup generators , and further no emergency lights in the stairwell. When I spoke to the front desk they rudely told us there was nothing they could or would do. That it was electric company's fault. Not sure how the electric company could be at fault for the generators not working and/or the lack of functioning lighting in the pitch black stairwell. To add insult to injury there was a surcharge daily for electricity.

Great location with super variety on the grounds
We spent our last two days in the Bahamas at this hotel for the comfort, services, and location. The staff were so accommodating and kind. The grounds were beautiful. And it is right across the street from great shopping and restaurants.
