Historic Log Cabin Retreat Near Town on 5-Stunning Acre's!

Welcome to Weirich Farm, a charming and rustic historic cabin built in 1853 and 1855, consisting of two cabins that have been joined together with logs and limestone rock to make up one large and accommodating home. This stunning rental was originally Fredericksburg’s first community bakery and is situated on 40 acres just 5 minutes from Fredericksburg, making it the perfect place for a getaway. It sleeps up to 4 people comfortably.

The cabin is very private and has been comfortably furnished with accented antiques. It consists of two bedrooms (two king beds), a large living area, a classic country kitchen, a dining room, two bathrooms (both with clawfoot bathtub and one with an additional shower), porch with a barbecue grill and gas fireplace.

Additionally, this cabin has a gorgeous scenic view of Texas Hill Country from its back patio, making it the perfect stay for you and your loved ones.

Nice cottage
Queen bed could use a softer mattress. Electrical outlet in Master bath didn't work. Other than these minor issues. Very comfortable cabin in quiet neighborhood.

Good but could be better …
Loved the nostalgia. Thanks for the historical memories. Really cool old farmhouse. Here’s why we rated 3 - front porch light stayed on all night once triggered. Front BR bed was extra poor quality, MBR wasn’t much better. No ceiling fans so once doors shut there wasn’t any circulation. MBR Bath was tub only. Main Bath Door didn’t lock. No personalization - Greeting Card, Treats, etc. instead of over-communicating the CheckIn/Out process. For price would expect more overall. Happy to discuss further if desired.

Fun weekend get away
This was a great place to rent for a weekend. The history of the place, the location, the kitchen worked out well for our group. The only downside and we didn't notice it in the listing, but both bathrooms were not ADA compliant. We had a disabled person with us and the step down into the main bathroom and the clawtubs were not managable for them.

Would stay again if...
We enjoyed our stay in this historic cabin. There was plenty of space for the 4 of us to spread out, which was nice since we stayed 4 nights. We loved the large kitchen and the ability to prepare a few meals during our stay. The glassware, dishware and cutlery were a little hodgepodge, but we managed. We were happy to see extra paper towels and toilet paper, as well as an ample supply of toiletries, towels and wash cloths. Another nice touch is the full size washer and dryer. Many vacation rentals do not offer this. We particularly enjoyed the rocking chairs and swing on the front porch where we had our coffee each morning. While there were many things we liked about the cabin, there were a few misses as well. The description is somewhat misleading. It states there are 2 king beds when in fact, there is 1 king and 1 queen bed. The cabin actually presents much nicer in the photos than in person. The furniture is a bit tired and the cabin is more rustic than it appears and it is very dimly lit. Instructions on how to work the televisions/dish would have been helpful. We had some difficulty and also found corroded batteries in one of the remotes and had to borrow from the other remote. Since we could not get the tv to work, it would have been nice to have a dvd/blue ray player since we brought movies with us. Despite the misses we mentioned, we would definitely stay again. We do, however, encourage management to stay a night or two in the cabin to get a feel for what would make the stay better. A few very simple and low cost touches would make the stay more comfortable. Ask the cleaning staff to check the remote batteries, watch the lightbulbs, tighten the loose toilet seats, add a blue ray player, get a matched set of dishes, cutlery and wine glasses. Leave some information on the history of the combined cabins, perhaps some before and after photos. Do a few things and invite us back, we will come!

Some things to work on.
Need a document to teach us how to use the TV (Dish) system. I would not work and we could not watch any TV. The kitchen needs some knives, forks and spoons. Don’t use cheap toilet paper. Other than those three items it was great.

Peaceful getaway
This property has so much history. I loved the historic charm. Great deal for the property. We had deer all around us. We loved sitting out on the porch in the swing and watching the deer. It was so quiet and peaceful. Just a great getaway place but close enough to Fredericksburg. We loved it and would book again.

Wonderful location and serene setting. Deer with multiple fawns every morning and turkeys in the late afternoon. The mattresses need attention or a refresh as they are both so way past their prime. But the atmosphere at the cabin was so instantly relaxing

So close to being fantastic but misses the mark
This is a difficult review to write. The property is so incredible in many ways, but a couple of things really missed the mark and had our stay fall a little flat. Throughout the home, there were many lightbulbs out. The place was quite dark in the daytime, despite having a full wall of windows and bright sun. The ceiling and kitchen lights being out were the biggest inconvenience of the lot. Internet access was not working for us. I called the support line, they reset the modem, I reset the modem (I work in technology for a living), and nothing worked. There was some other issue I didn't, nor wanted to, try to solve. Instead, I went to my car with internet to do work in the evening. To say this was a downer is an understatement. Stable internet in this day and time is really no longer a luxury. The internet issue was not for any personal, gaming devices. We needed it for work in the evenings and did not have it. This is a huge zero. There were more than a few stinkbugs, wasps, and fleas (in the bed and on the couch) in the house. The furniture, while "unique", also looks much better in photo than in real life. The beds were ok, but don't expect the same type or quality of mattress you probably have at home. If the unit were priced around $125 nightly I wouldn't give these things a second thought. However, spending close to $1,000 for two nights between booking fees, cleaning fees, room rates, etc, this was not worth the money. As the title of the review says, this is so close to being fantastic. If the internet had worked, the light bulbs worked, and we wouldn't have woken the first morning to having red bites on our legs, the review would have been much better (we ended up stripping the sheets on both beds, and used the linens we brought with us). Toss in some new furniture using the $1,000 we just shelled out for this place and now you have a winner all around for the next booking. Not related to the cabin, the booking fees almost doubled the nightly rate. As nice as this could be, it would never be worth $500 nightly (as it works out when fees are added in). VRBO should do a better job on minimizing the fees on their end rather than passing all of this along to us.

Historical Charm
Beautiful historical cottage that feels like a step back in time with the sights and sounds of the hill country but convenient to Fredericksburg and surrounding wineries. Clean, well maintained and nicely appointed. Although listing shows 2 king beds, 1 bed is king and 1 is queen.

Great Country Home
We had a great time staying at the Historic Cabin. It was. a clean well maintained property. The screened in porch, patio with a fire pit and firewood , front porch swing and rockers made for great places to enjoy the country scenery. The corn hole game was a fun activity. We had a little confusion when two different entrance codes were sent to us. A gentle suggestion would be to have little information cards posted telling about the historical items in the house. Great country location but not to far from town.

Rustic setting
Check in and property were just fine. The overall property was clean however, the kitchen did not fall into the same category. One drawer in the refrigerator was a third full of some liquid and the door seal was sticky making it difficult to open the door. The table and some cabinets needed to be cleaned before we felt comfortable using them. One coffee pot did not work. We had asked about availability of a propane grill and were told one was available only to be told once we arrived that this property didn’t come with one. These items made me question the effectiveness of management and detracted from an otherwise enjoyable trip.

A few problems
There was supposed to be two king beds, but there was one king and one Queen. There was a septic issue and a bad smell at the back of the cabin. No dishwasher, but that could have been a misunderstanding on our part
