Hill Cottage | Historic and Charming

Cain City was founded as one of the stops along the Fredericksburg and Great Northern Railway. It was a thriving town and until just about 30 years ago part of the old bank was still standing just a short distance from Hill Cottage.

Located only a few miles from Fredericksburg this delightful quaint, little cottage boasts phenomenal views. The yard has a wonderful array of birds. The outside patio has comfy chairs and charcoal grill and is ideal for watching our feathered friends, rabbits, deer, and all the other nature so abundant to the area.

The Adam's family built Hill Cottage in 1912, and also were founders of Cain City. Pine floors, pristine white trim, fluffy white lace curtains, and rich rose walls enhance the playful mix of patterns in the floral sofa and plaid armchair creating a warm and inviting glow in the living room. Enjoy the Direct TV with DVD player. Two bedrooms (both with queen-size beds) are found on both sides of the bath. Comfy reading chairs are found in both bedrooms along with antique dressers and chests. The bath has a claw foot tub with shower.

A completely equipped country kitchen has a range/oven, refrigerator, microwave, toaster and coffeemaker. The adjacent dining room has a table for four and antique china cabinet. Windows are conveniently arranged to enjoy the countryside views. The large patio and screened-in porch both have comfy chairs to sit and relax. Broadway Cottage is next door and also sleeps four—makes a perfect getaway for eight people.

We ended up staying a weekend with a cold front and we got to enjoy the fire pit outside with wood provided! Instructions were clear and house was cozy. Would stay again!

Sweet place!
We enjoyed our stay here! Nice screened porch to enjoy morning coffee and watch deer. Close enough to town but good to be away from the traffic.

Great little get away spot
Loved the backyard and fire pit, saw lots of deer and beautiful sunsets. Inside is a little dated but perfect for our needs.

Hill Country
Loved the location. Comfortable beds, furnished well. Kitchen was well equipped. The bathtub and floor are dangerous. Unstable, slippery, and no handrails. One of our party could not safely use it.

Quiet and cozy
Plus side - this place was very cozy and quiet. Downfalls - the coffee pot was dirty and the coffee and creamer were very much expired. This is the first bnb we have stayed in that didn't provide coffee, water bottles, or something quick for breakfast, such as granola bars or oatmeal packets.

Lovely Cottage
This cottage was wonderful for our weekend stay in Fredericksburg. The cottage is centrally located from wineries and downtown Fredericksburg. The cottage is very well kept and has all the essentials, central AC is a big bonus in the Texas heat! Would recommend this cottage to anyone.

Cottage in the Country
Attractive, comfortable cottage in the quiet of the country, surrounded by pretty pastures and wildlife, yet only a short distance to Fredericksburg. The historic house was very clean and furnished with cozy touches and beautiful antiques. Would love to stay again!

Relaxing
The house was secluded enough to be relaxing and peaceful but close to Fredericksburg’s main attractions. It could have used a bit more tidying before our arrival. There was food from the previous tenant left in the fridge and dead crickets in one of the rooms along with a dead scorpion behind the door. The rest of the house was quaint and what would be expected of an old ‘farmhouse’.

Music in Luckenbach
Great location and quaint quiet place. We were gone majority of the time out in Fredericksburg Friday night then in Luckenbach all day. Location is great in the sense that we were easily able to get an Uber there and back. It was an all day festival so we didn’t want to risk having fun then having to drive on unfamiliar roads. All and all cute and comfy place.

Beautiful views!
Absolutely loved the Hill Cottage! It rained on Saturday night and the views of the lightning in the distance were amazing! There's nothing better than sitting on the porch with a glass of wine and watching Mother Nature. We had a great experience!

Total relaxation
Sitting on the front porch, sipping coffee, watching two doe and a spotted fawn eating and playing. There is nothing more relaxing to start your morning.

It is a cozy cottage to stay in. I would rather sit on the back porch and watch the deer than go in to town and fight the crowds of "different" people that are taking over Fredericksburg.

Great
The place was wonderful It had the same floorplan as my grandmothers Craftsman. It was clean, had a great front porch and Kitchen Beds were comfy. Don't let the post about the front door scare you It does have a look on the front door that is like a hotel lock. We felt very safe Very close to Fredericksburg and Luckenbach.

Hill Cottage in Cain City
We had a wonderful time in the Hill Country staying here at the Hill Cottage. The home was very clean and we loved the solitude, wildlife, and charm of such an old home! We're already looking for a reason to go back! A note for the owners: We enjoyed reading through the history of the house and town of Cain City, and found that my wife's Great Grandfather is first cousins with all of the Strieglers mentioned in the "Cain City Lived & Died by the Railroad" article!

Probably not the best choice for two old ladies. It was cute, comfortable and clean but had several safety issues: Front door did not lock, blinds did not close completely and a tub/shower that was impossible to use. Also, we could not get the TV to work or WiFi.

Cute house in quiet neighborhood
It was a beautiful house. Reminded us so much of our grandma's house growing up. Beds were super comfortable and all linen was clean and fresh. Had direct TV so we were able to enjoy some resting time. Loved the back yard. Saw deer everywhere and the house is about 8 minutes away from the downtown area. The only downside was the power and lights did not work in one of the rooms. But we managed just fine using the light from the bathroom and just charged our electronics in another room. Had central air and heat and made the house feel so cozy. Definitely would stay again.
