Lakefront Home Near Acadia National Park: Dock kayaks paddle boards & swim raft

Located 30 minutes from Mount Desert Island lies a hidden gem known as George’s Pond in Franklin, Maine. George’s Pond is best known for its clean, clear water and picturesque sunsets. The 360 acre pond hosts many types of fish: Trout, Bass, Pickerel & Perch. Along the pond you will find many incredible swimming spots, as well as a large swimming rock (boulder) in the middle of the pond with a diving board.

With a population density of 39 people per square mile, Franklin, Maine is the perfect relaxing, unhurried environment to vacation in while being so close to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. You will find hard wood & tile flooring throughout, accented with granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, propane fire place, and high end fixtures. The home has high speed internet, Cable, and phone service. Cell service can be spotty in Franklin.

Kitchen:
The kitchen is spacious for a family of 4. With plenty of storage, whirlpool appliances, coffee maker, dish washer, and views through the sliding door onto the patio, you are sure to fall in love. The patio (off the kitchen) provides seating for 5 with a high table (for 2 or 3) overlooking the pond.

Outdoor Entertainment Area:
An ideal location for enjoying the ponds sights, sounds, and atmosphere. We provide a large propane BBQ grill, chair swing, chairs, table with umbrella, and a solo smokeless fire pit. Just under the deck you will find lifejackets, kayak and paddle board paddles. This is the ideal place to watch the sunset each night as the loons call out to each other. Almost every night you will see osprey, falcons, eagles, and you can hear fish jump at the edge of dark. Just down a set of steps you will find an aluminum dock with kayaks on a convenient rack. Out on the end of the dock is seating for 3 people and a large area to lay down or have a picnic. The sand / pebble beach area to the right of the dock provides an excellent place to wade, splash, and swim! Quite often a family of ducks will swim through looking for food along the rocky shoreline. Murch Island offers shelter from South winds, and provides excellent fishing grounds.

In closing: George’s Pond House is about as comfortable and charming as it gets. You are only 15 minutes from Ellsworth (grocery stores), 30 minutes from Mount Desert Island, 5 minutes from the nearest (small) grocery store / gas station, but surrounded in all natures beauty along the best side of the pond which receives full sun with incredible sunset views.

A perfect week!
This was a wonderful getaway. The house was clean, comfy, and had everything we needed. Comfy beds, nice bathrooms, and great outdoor spaces. The location is perfect - close enough to town and Acadia, but far enough away so we didn't feel like tourists. :) Georges Pond is lovely - friendly neighborhood, pristine water, amazing views. We made good use of the kayaks and paddle boards and swam in the pond every day. The sunsets were spectacular, and I especially loved the quiet solitude of early morning coffee by the water. We soo enjoyed this house and our week on Georges Pond!

Property is as advertised. Everything was beautiful including the lake. Kayaks were fun as was the fishing. Owner had everything you could think of in the house. They also quickly responded to all requests. Area was quiet and relaxing. Would highly recommend it. The only thing to note is there is not a lot of restaurant options close by and the drive to bar harbor was about 45 min. We didn’t mind the drive and preferred to get away but it just means you need to plan ahead for different things. The bar harbor area was beautiful as we went hiking, rock climbing, whale watching and watched the sun rise.

Peace and quiet!
The property exceeded our expectations! The listing did its best to describe this place, however, the property and location were too amazing to capture in words. The pond was calm and beautiful and the house itself was incredible. I could’ve spent my all day and night out on the dock or hanging in a kayak! Paul is an awesome host and I would 100% recommend his place!

Peaceful and Beautiful
The view is fantastic. I could have just sat and looked at the lake all week. It was pretty quiet except for some work being done nearby one day. Sitting around the firepit at night was sublime. The weather was great even without the sun at the end of the week. The only bad thing was the drive to Mt. Desert which was a little long and way too crowded for my taste.

We were beyond pleased with our stay at George’s Pond. The house was perfect with many amenities, especially in the kitchen with spices, foil, baggies already there. Paul was the best host, the house was lit up and windows open when we arrived and he checked on us during Hurricane Lee to be sure we were good. Luckily we only had one bad weather day. The lake was beautiful and great for kayaking. I would recommend this house if you are coming to Bar Harbor, Acadia, or anywhere in Downeast Maine! Thanks Paul!

Wonderful lakefront property getaway
We really enjoyed the lovely waterfront property in quiet Franklin ME. It was peaceful, fun to kayak and use the stand up paddle board as well as swim. My husband loved fishing almost daily. The view of George’s Pond was really nice. It was a bit secluded, so even to shop at a large grocery store was a minimum of 20 min away. Acadia National park was great and Bar Harbor-approximately 35-40 min drive. Our rental was lovely, clean and had everything one would need for a week’s stay. I highly recommend Paul’s rental. Thx again Paul for a great vacation. It was truly a home away from home.🙂🙌

Rain in Maine better than Sun at Work
Despite the week of rain and cold (upper 50's) and unable to access the lake as much as anticipated, this home on the water was far enough away from the tourist areas to feel like home and close enough to the quieter side of Arcadia to enjoy our week w our adult children. Only regret was not visiting more of the quaint, smaller towns along Rt 1 close to our rental. Owner great to work with and even provided a brand new fishing pole for my enjoyment. Sunset was stunning and house just the right size to play cards, snack, and hang out.

10/10. Loved our time here. Excellent property with great amenities, great view over the lake, and plenty of fun activities to do on the water with kayaks and paddle boards included. Convenient to Acadia national park and the nearby town of Ellesmere for shopping and food but far enough away to get a really quiet and private experience. Would definitely stay again.

Best VRBO rental EVER!
We rent VRBOs for spring and fall break every year, and this house was the nicest we have ever rented. We visited for a week for Fall Break 2022. The location was stunning and so peaceful. My teenage boys loved fishing off the kayaks. We loved the Solo Stove in the evenings. The house was clean and comfy. It was SO NICE to find staples in the cabinets... we saved so much money not buying spices, baggies, foil, dishwashing soap, laundry soap, etc. The owner was EXTREMELY responsive and friendly via texts. We appreciated his helpful answers to any questions we had. The house was a 35-minute beautiful drive to Acadia and only about 20 mins from several nice grocery stores. We absolutely loved this location and I took some of the most stunning vacation photos ever at this home - it was like living in an LL Bean catalog!

Paul and Ashlee-- thank you for making our stay in Maine safe, clean and enjoyable. This was our first time in Maine to see the fall foliage. In addition to the spectacular scenery your place was everything we expected. We loved our short side trips to Acadia, Bar Harbor and Castine! But we always enjoyed coming back to see a beautiful sunset on the lake each day. And we fell in love with the area. Thank you!
