Frank, my host, was waiting for me when I arrived between 16.00 and 17.00 h as we had agreed by email. He showed me round the Ferienhaus, explained the dos and don’ts, the functioning of the parking place in the backyard, the facilities in the neighbourhood regarding both shopping and recreation. The S-Bahn-station of Mühlheim-Dietesheim is a few minutes’ walking away and offers direct train connection to Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof and Frankfurt Airport.
Frank’s holiday apartment is unbelievably well equipped and cosy: income hall (with washing machine), kitchen (4 induction cooktops, oven, microwave in the dining room), dining room with a table sitting 6, reading room with sofa and cosy chair and flatscreen TV, terrace overlooking the back garden, sleeping room, bathroom with shower. In one of the kitchen cupboards you find an amazing variety of consumables. Light switches and sockets are in profusion in every room. The parking place in the backyard in front of Frank’s garage (where he parks his old-timer Citroën van) is spacious which enabled me to recover an item I thought to have forgotten in a previous Ferienhaus, but which had fallen under the passenger seat. You need space and good light to search thoroughly your car for a lost item, which you get in Frank’s backyard. And your car is safe.
Frank’s holiday apartment occupies the ground floor of the house. The upper floor is home to Frank’s son Olivier. He comes back from work in the evening and busies himself caring for the plants and flowers in the garden. Father and son have a fancy for lights and modern technology. Olivier installed solar lights in the garden and sometimes you get a colourful lightshow to see.
I spend two of the three days I was in Mühlheim (not counting the day of arrival and the day of departure) to visit “Keltenwelt am Glauberg” to the north and “Welters Grube Messel” to the south, both about 40 km from Mühlheim and not of easy access by public transport. Mühlheim is extremely well connected to explore the whole Rhine-Main metropolitan region, from Mainz-Wiesbaden to Hanau-Seligenstadt and even Ashaffenburg in the north of Bavaria.
As conclusion: Frank and his son Olivier are efficient and empathetic hosts. Frank’s holiday apartment is a excellent choice for whoever wants to explore the Frankfurt metropolitan region, be it by car or by public transport. Excellent value for money.
