THE WATER VIEW - the main reason we purchased Green Acres at the Bay. The stunning views of the East River provide impeccable access to nature, relaxation and privacy at the Chesapeake Bay. We renovated this farmhouse to provide a vacation paradise for couples, families and of course it's dog-friendly (pet fee applies, max two dogs without prior approval). All the modern conveniences (wifi, tvs in every bedroom and in living room) and an abundance of outdoor living: deck, fire pit, relaxing chairs everywhere, hammock. Located in Mathews County, voted one of the coolest small towns in America. Green Acres has a maximum occupancy of six persons with a minimum age of six years old for children. No day or overnight guests (other than those listed in reservation) are permitted. 7 night stay (Saturday-Saturday) required May 20-Sept 9; 3 night min stay rest of year.
Green Acres quickly works its magic on guests with its privacy, abundant nature and relaxation. The birdlife is simply amazing (Karla's dad is an ornithologist so we have a great appreciation) and on a clear night you can't believe the stars! Mathews County's culture is a bit like the Florida Keys (which we love) in that you quickly adapt to island time. You stop worrying about all your emails and to do lists and time is measured by meal time, cocktail time and nap time. We specialize in getting people to relax, take a deep breath and enjoy nature in all its glory. Mathews County doesn't even have a stoplight but we have 90 miles of water trails great for kayaking and boating and nine coastal trails that are part of Virginia's Birding & Wildlife Trails system. For bicyclists, the Tour de Chesapeake is held annually in Mathews offering bike routes of varying lengths.
If you want some sand in your toes, we are a short drive from Haven Beach and Bethel Beach in Mathews with great birding, shell gathering, strolling. If you’re looking for a day trip, we are an hour away from Colonial Williamsburg & Busch Gardens and Yorktown. We are centrally located between Virginia Beach and Washington DC and a mere 90 minutes from Richmond.
As part of an older farmhouse (hence the fun name Green Acres), the house was built on 3 different levels so if you have any mobility concerns, please check out the pictures and descriptions and review the last photo which provides safety information on the layout. As always we’re happy to answer any questions about the layout or the accommodations to make sure it’s a great fit for your getaway.
