It is standard to submit ID at accommodation in Italy. We were sent details of our room the day before arrival. This worked well. We had booked the budget room, which was on the ground floor. Impeccably clean, an easy walk from the town centre and the train station, friendly and helpful staff and owner, and a good option if you are travelling alone and want somewhere safe to stay.
