Hix Island House
5/5 Excellent
"What a spectacular place to stay in Vieques! It’s only a ten minute drive to Esperanza and not much longer to head back to the ferry on the other side of the island. The resort is a short drive to the best beaches and, when you just want to be mellow at home, you can go to a morning yoga class, swim in the pool or just hang out and read.
The property is beautiful and the design of each building /room is truly unique (genius). We had an outdoor shower with a view and a terrace that we especially enjoyed in the late afternoon after we came back from the beach. We loved our view from Solaris 2. The open space (no glass in the windows) is an amazing concept - it was so lovely to enjoy the fresh air and trade winds in January. It’s also special to go to sleep to the sounds of the coqui (little tree frogs) and crickets. Even though it rained a little every night, the inside of the room never got wet. There’s a little mesh tent around the bed, but we never needed it because there weren’t mosquitos or other bugs. I think it helped that we didn’t leave lights on when we were out to dinner. We also loved that the room came with a fully stocked kitchen and dining table, so we could enjoy breakfast there every day. I also want to note how friendly and helpful everyone was at Hix Island House. I would highly recommend staying there and would gladly return.
