Yes, the inspiration for one of the most influential science fiction novels of all time came from here. Eight houses north of this house is Captain Cox's 1897 home. He was the one who discovered the world-famous Sea Lion Caves. There are also 13 lakes in the area and the Siuslaw River as well.
Winter months, while normal drizzle is falling, are a good time to visit the local coffee shops. There are some exceptional souvenir shops and art galleries nearby. Local artists are exceptional!
