Beautiful scenery quiet, private house with amazing scenery
My husband and I had a wonderful 3-day stay. We loved the seclusion of the house and beautiful scenery. The house was absolutely beautiful and has everything you need and more.
Property is exactly as advertised, the host is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met, being able to kick back and relax, fish, and hike while never having to leave the property was absolutely amazing.
First time staying in WV. Came up for the week and this cabin was wonderful. The perfect get away from our bustling city life. The host was accommodative and communicative. If you like hiking, the property has a nice 2 mile trail on it with an overlook at the top. Highly recommend staying here.
The property was beautiful and the hosts were amazing, very attentive. We were celebrating my friends birthday and when we arrived she had hung a happy birthday sign above the fire place and left a bottle of local wine for us to enjoy. If you're looking for quiet, peaceful and beautiful scenery this is the place for you.
This property was unlike any we have stayed in for the 10+ years we have done vacation rentals. Everything was as adverstised: Seclusion within the natural beauty of the WV hills, yet located within a short drive of everything you would want to do at the NP. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Mike & Deanna were great hosts and very helpful!
We had a wonderful time and Mike and Deanna’s property. Was so quiet and peaceful and served as a great place to truly unplug in nature. The backyard was perfect for our pup as well as a larger pen to run and play fetch. The house was comfortable and well appointed with everything we needed to cook meals. Would recommend coming in daylight…beautiful drive but some twists and turns. Owners are on property but were very respectful of our privacy and very kind. Mike even caught some minnows for my son to fish in the pond. Relaxing and easy access to the park.
The property is beautiful and so pet friendly. A fenced dog run, fenced in back yard and gated front porch ensured our dog could get outdoor time without risk of escape. The house is very clean and comfortable. I love the two full bathrooms! The owners are very responsive and welcoming. We will definitely be back!
Everything about our trip rates more than 5 stars. From the hosts to the beautiful home and property, it was all absolutely amazing. We cannot say enough about what a wonderful experience this was. The hosts went above and beyond to ensure we were happy and had everything we needed and more. We will definitely be back.
We wanted a relaxing getaway with hiking options for our family (including infant and dog) anmd that is exactly what we got! Everything was great! The owners were very responsive and even accommodated late date changes.
The house was great with a large yard (including a fenced in back yard and a fenced in section of the field for the dog). Wild turkeys greeted us every morning which was a nice surprise.
We arrived late and the house is along a dark gravel road so if you show late just keep driving (about half a mile past where my GPS ended) and you will find yourself right at a parking area.
We were in the area for a Spartan race.We love staying at the house because it has everything we need to get ready and recover from our races.
Our host made sure we had everything we needed and took care of any requests we had.The peaceful location, wildlife and challenging trail in the backyard made for a great stay.Thank you so much.
Our family greatly enjoyed our stay at the Backwoods Retreat! The house was super clean and comfortable. It had everything we needed and we loved being off the beaten path but still close enough to New River Gorge! The hosts are super kind and helpful and made sure we had everything we needed. Our boys had a blast fishing in the pond, making s’mores, watching the deer and looking for arrowheads on the property (when we weren’t hiking.). Such a perfect place for a wonderful family vacation! Highly recommend:)
What a place!! If you’re looking for a quiet and peaceful location this is it. The house had EVERYTHING you will need. Owners are 5 star +! Wildlife in the yard to be enjoyed everyday. My husband was in fishing heaven. We will return.
This cabin was the perfect place to take our 2 teens and chocolate lab. We were near adventure activities. The dog loved roaming the property and chasing wildlife. We also hiked the trail up the mountain on the owner’s land. The beautiful cabin and land is relaxing. Mike was outgoing, helpful and also doted on our lab. 5 stars.
Excellent location! Secluded and peaceful but only 20 minutes away from New River Gorge. House was very clean and comfortable. It was well stocked with everything we needed. The fenced backyard was great for our dogs, and there was lots of outdoor seating to enjoy the beautiful countryside. We enjoyed visits from deer every night and listening to the frogs in the pond -- the only sounds you can hear! The owners were so nice, and they were available next door if we needed anything.
This property is by far one of the best we stayed at! Mike and Deanna were always there to help out if we needed ANYTHING. Cabin was clean and comfortable and quiet. Saw deer and turkey on the property every day, and spent a good amount of time at the pond. The property is beautiful, although I didn’t go on the hike there, the guys did and said it was so worth it. Very close to the park and food. If you want to visit New River Gorge, we HIGHLY recommend this property.
Lovely clean updated home on green rolling hill lawn. The back yard was fenced in with a fire pit.
The house was clean, updated and well appointed. The back yard was fenced in for our dog with fire pit and gas grill. The drive down White Oak Fork Road is about 1.4 miles our Garmin dropped a pin to early FYI. Very close to the New River Gorge National Park. Which was beautiful and free!
Very peaceful setting on the side of a mountain with a great view of the well kept property. The layout of the house was especially convenient with split bedrooms and bathrooms and plenty of room. There are lots of windows looking out on the forest. Nice fenced in back yard with a spacious deck. Deanna and Mike were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We really enjoyed watching the deer. We also enjoyed the private hiking trails up the mountain behind the house. Oak Hill is only a short drive away for groceries or to eat, and Fayetteville is not much farther.
With the forest in view & the pond on the property, we had a nature retreat. The home is set up well for 2 couples, and the 2 bathrooms were a plus. Everything was clean & newer - comfortable beds and couch (often a rarity in rentals) the kitchen modern. There were 2 grills, spotlessly clean, one gas & the other charcoal, and a fire pit in the fenced back yard. Our host Mike was thoughtful and friendly, stocking firewood, and minnows for pond fishing - exceptionally accommodating. We enjoyed our stay & hope to return. Thank you Mike & Deanna.
This house is in a quiet location and had a great view. We saw deer and turkey around the house several times. The house was clean and had the bedding arrangements that worked for our family of 5. Communication was great with the owner. My husband and son enjoyed catching many baby bass and my girls enjoyed playing with the baby frogs around the pond. We chose this location because of being near New River Gorge Bridge and NP, while still not being "in town".
