Note: Kiwi Lodge is in a rural area of farms and woods, with no tourist amenities! This rural area closes down early, except for the loons and wildlife. The nearest mall is 45 minutes away in Augusta or Auburn, with a larger one in Portland, 90 minutes away. Fine dining in Lewiston (45 minutes) and many options in Portland. Nearby Farmington and Wilton have good but casual style options. Lots of lobster though, ready steamed if you want, for fabulous at-home dining on the deck of Kiwi Lodge, overlooking the water.
On main floor: large kitchen, dining area at one end, overlooking garden and lake. Living room and bathroom also on main level, family room and one bedroom on garden level, two bedrooms and bathroom on upper level. No a/c. The occasional hot, humid weather in the summer does not last long, cools down at night and the 17 windows in the house, with ceiling and floor fans, provide great cross-ventilation for an eco-friendly alternative.
Excellent fishing! Good-sized large mouth bass & small mouth bass, sunfish.
Kitchen pantry cupboard has everything needed for cooking at home, even a wide range of spices and all the essentials. Hannaford & Walmart supermarkets are 10 minutes away in the charming university town of Farmington, for very good fresh goods, excellent fish and shellfish.
A deep drilled well ensures pure drinking water. Power cuts can happen, usually from one of the trillions of trees falling on a line, but they are speedily dealt with and there is a generator to deal with a longer-than-normal cut in service. The local maintenance man will quickly connect it.
House amenities: Gas stove, d/w, fridge, microwave, small electrics, all items needed for cooking and baking. And a herb garden outside the kitchen door!
Washer, dryer. Two large TVs, cable, newly installed (May 2024) 1 gig internet, equalling 1K mbps, enables online gaming as well as effective use of all your devices! There are many board & card games, movies, books and a small Foosball table in the family room.
Beds: All hand-made by Maine artisans. Two upper level bedrooms, king size bed in one, queen and full size in the second. Garden level bedroom has bunk with full size lower and twin size upper. Deep comfy mattresses, quality bedding.
Futon available (bring your own bedding for futon) and a Pack'nPlay.
Property amenities: outdoor hot tub, hammock, volleyball/ badminton/pickle ball net, horseshoes, croquet, 55' dock, swim raft anchored in lake. Rental includes paddleboat, large canoe, two sit-on-top and one hard-sided kayaks. Life jackets in all sizes. Gas grill on deck.
Linens, bedding, towels provided, shampoo, conditioner, lotions, all cleaning supplies incl. laundry, d/w detergents, paper goods. Please bring your own swim/hot tub towels.

Ten minutes to Farmington's shopping, restaurants, movies, golf courses, wonderful hiking! We send you lots of recommendations for what to do, where to go, where to eat. Flint Woods in Farmington has over 60 acres of well maintained, easy paths through the woods, suitable for walkers of all ages.
Many other small towns, like Wilton, 8 mins (eat at Calzolaio’s), Hallowell, 45 mins (antiques, restaurants), Auburn/Lewiston, 45 mins (eat at Fish Bones or DaVinci), Skowhegan, 40 mins - Granary - book a tour, cafe, creamery, Sat. Farmers' Market, large antique store. Don’t forget the farm visits – Turner’s own Nezinscot Farm (30 mins) even has a café, highly rated for breakfast, brunch.

Maine Botanical Garden on Boothbay Pensinsula - a seaside botanical garden! Go a couple miles more to town for lobster rolls. Portland – we could go on for many pages. See-do-eat in our detailed guide for guests. Camden and Rockport are both postcard-perfect, impossibly scenic. Boat tours from many places on the coast, for whale watching, island visiting. Missed the moose? Maine Wildlife Park at Gray has them, bears too, and much more. Hiking? Bald Mountain, 3.5 miles round trip, about 1,100' elevation, countless others. Paddleboat trips on Moosehead Lake in Greenville. Freeport outlet shopping (6 LL Bean stores!), and harbor side Harraseeket restaurant, choose your own lobster.
