The Neighborhood:
Chrisostomos is a small seaside settlement overlooking the south Cretan sea, located approximately 75km south of Heraklion. The village offers a few taverns and a mini market. It is named after the ruined church of Saint John Chrisostomos located on the east.
The beach is large with ample space so there is no crowding even on the high season. It has coarse sand and is well protected from the west winds. On the west end of the beach there is a "line" of rocks, that heads towards the small islet of Trafos. This is the old pier of the ancient port of Lassea. On the island and on the beach, opposite Trafos, you can still see remains of the ancient town of Lassea. The beach continues west of Trafos, creating a separate beach called Segrezo Ryaki that faces west. This beach is very close to a Roman cemetery. It is secluded and ideal for nudism, but is also rockier than the main beach. On the west end, there is a spring with fresh water.

OTHER BEACHES
• Makria Ammos Beach in KaloI Limenes.
Makria Ammos beach is the first beach you encounter when you enter KaloI Limenes and is 2.3 km from ChrIsostomos. It is the largest beach in the area with grayish gravel and dark deep waters. Opposite the shore there are two rocks, Aspros Volakas near the shore, and Mavros Volakas more open. The further east you go, the calmer the beach. Makria Ammos is also known as "tamarisk", due to the many trees that exist along the beach and offer shade to holidaymakers. The beach is not very organized, while in the west there are taverns and a private hotel belonging to the Vardinogiannis family.
• Psili Ammos Beach in Kaloi Limenes.
To the west of Makria Ammos there is the main settlement of Kaloi Limenes with the small port that serves the employees of the fuel tanks and next to the small beach of Psili Ammos. Indeed, the beach has fine sand and is ideal for children, while nearby there are taverns, mini market, rooms, while there is a port station and customs. Psili Ammos is the busiest beach in the area and gathers a lot of people, especially on weekends.
• Kravovrisi beach.
If you follow the road that leads to Kaloi Limenes, then you will find the easternmost beach of the bay where you can walk through the homonymous stream of Karavovrisi that flows into the beach in winter. (Note: The walk is from Kaloi Limenes to Karavovrisi and not from Chrysostomos). Karavovrisi is a beautiful beach with coarse sand and calm waters. It is not organized, but unfortunately there is no shade from trees.
• Platia Peramata Beach.
Platia Peramata is a small settlement located between Chrisostomos and Lenta. It is located at the exit of a large valley (hence the name) in the Asterousia Mountains that starts from the village of Antiskari and ends at the sea. The fertile valley is used for growing vegetables in greenhouses all year round, such as tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, etc., as the temperature is always high.
In the area there are many bays, which form calm beaches that are preferred mainly by the locals. In front of the small village there is the beach of Peramata Squares with fine pebbles, which is used mainly to moor the boats of the inhabitants. The beach is not organized, but there are few taverns and rooms. On the east side of the village there is the beach of the eastern Platia Peramata which has pebbles and is not preferred for swimming. The best beach for swimming, however, is Psili Ammos to the east.
