Exciting new! Total refurbishment of Dearborn Street is complete and looks beautiful! $14m has been spent on this. There are new sidewalks with beautiful turquoise paving sets, new street seating and lighting. Pioneer Park has been created with a permanent bandstand, public toilets and a large grassy area where concerts and other public events will take place. In addition, extra diagonal parking places have been created along the street. When you enter Dearborn Street, look out for the beautiful new archway sign!
This beautifully appointed cottage, located in the artists' district of Olde Englewood, is 2 minutes' drive from the famous conservation area of Dearborn Street. The location of this cottage is unique in that, while being walking distance from Dearborn Street and Lemon Bay Park, it is a tropical paradise that is beautifully quiet and peaceful, away from busy, noisy roads.
A Mitsubishi Mini split air conditioner with heat has been installed in Guava Cottage. The unit is super quiet and keeps the cottage cool even in the hottest weather. And, the heat pump aspect is perfect for taking the chill off on those slightly fresher January and February evenings.
There are many things to do in the area for recreation and relaxation including boating, fishing, golf, shopping, live music and great restaurants. Sarasota is 45 minutes away, Orlando, 3 hours away and Fort Myers, 1 hour away.
In Olde Englewood, there are several excellent restaurants, many having live music: Mango Bistro, Englewoods on Dearborn, Vino Loco, Comadres Mexican Restaurant, Blue Pineapple, La Stanza Italian Restaurant, Bobarino's Pizzeria, Joe Maxx Coffee Shop and Culture Coffee coffee shop which has great coffee and daily lunch specials. Culture Coffee also hosts a weekly open mic evening on Fridays, which is very good. In addition, there is Snook's Bayside Tiki Bar & Grill. All of these restaurants offer delicious food and a fun atmosphere.
A brand new restaurant is opening on Dearborn Street in December 2022/January 2023 called Word of Mouth. This is their third location with the other two being in Sarasota and Venice. They have a wonderful and varied menu to please most palates.
New stores are opening on Dearborn Street, too, with the latest being Papa Geppetto's Toy Store. It has a huge variety of toys, media and other fun things.
The cottage has everything you will need for an enjoyable and comfortable stay. There is a beautiful large, fenced yard with many plants and trees which is secluded for relaxing and barbecuing on your private deck. The deck is accessed directly from the cottage so you can go outside to enjoy the incredible Florida mornings, sitting drinking a cup of coffee and reading the morning paper. And in the evenings, you can enjoy sitting by the fire pit which is located on a lighted patio area in the center of the yard.
The kitchen is fully fitted with a stove, refrigerator, microwave, garbage disposal, toaster, pots & pans and dishes, glasses, cups, silverware and cooking utensils and the dining area has a 42-inch round table with four chairs and comfy seat covers.
The spacious bedroom has a queen-sized bed, night stands, chest of drawers, built-in closet and en-suite bathroom which is bright and cheery with nice strong in-tub shower.
The cozy living room with leather Lay-Z-Boy recliners, a Samsung 32-inch HD television. Television service is provided by Xfinity. All of this adds to your relaxing experience in beautiful Olde Englewood. WiFi is included and provided by Xfinity.
Bicycles are available to ride. It's fun to ride just five minutes away to one of the coffee shops for a relaxing coffee and a bagel or muffin. The streets around the cottage are quiet and perfect for gentle strolls or easy bike rides. Lemon Bay Park is a 210-acre nature-based park located in Englewood with 1.7 miles of shoreline on the beautiful Lemon Bay Aquatic Preserve and is only a 10-minute bike ride away. You can park your bike and then explore the grounds with tranquil walks along the water's edge wooden pathways. And if you are a jogger, this is a wonderful place to do it!
In the garden shed, along with the bicycles, you will discover an array of fishing equipment. There are public fishing piers near Indian Mound Park and bait can be bought at the Corner Market which is on the corner of Dearborn Street and Old Englewood Road. If you want to bring your boat, you can negotiate to moor or store it at Royal Palm Marina which is a block away.
Also, you can launch it, when you want to go out, into Lemon Bay from Indian Mound Park which is a 5-minute drive away.
Englewood Beach on Manasota Key is 10 minutes' drive away and here you will find several excellent restaurants for lunch or dinner, most of which also provide live music. Some of these are Lock and Key, SandBar Tiki and Grille, The White Elephant, Waverley, and the Beach Road Wine Bar and Bistro.
Other nearby restaurants that offer dining on the water are Farlow's, Sharkey's of Venice, Fin's, Casey Key Fish House and Deep Lagoon Seafood and Oyster House.
