It has two tidal mill ponds which are host to a variety of wild life. It is full of history, with a long established reputation for oyster fishing and boat building and still boasts traditional shipwrights and chandeliers.

Emsworth boasts a handful of independent restaurants including the michelin starred ' 36 on the Quay'. By foot you can easily get to the bottom of South Street where you will find a cafe overlooking the harbour, 'The Bluebell' Pub, well known in the local area for their excellent fish and chips, 'Fat Olives' restaurant and ‘Wooster's' restaurant and wine bar.'

The sailing club is a thriving centre for sailing enthusiasts and the pretty streets have a fascinating mixture of different architectural styles. A gentle walk around the village, which has superb harbour views, gives a genuine feel for the past.

In addition to the sailing at Emsworth there is also a very popular sandy beach at West Wittering which attracts wind surfers and surfers, as well as sun bathers.

Great location
As my brother lives in the area we knew the location so no problem finding it. The cottage was cosy with a lovely bright kitchen and dining area and pretty well furnished bedrooms. Stairs are steep but no surprise in a cottage and we managed very well. Downstairs bathroom does take getting used to but was fine. Surrounding area is brilliant, the village has everything and more within a 10 minute stroll and we enjoyed days out in Portsmouth Harbour, more there than you can see in a day to be honest and also Chichester. We used the train to get to both places so no worries about parking. We did take a car ride to Bosham which is very pretty and worth a visit. If you just want to stay in Emsworth there are lots of walks and interesting little shops to browse or just sit and relax looking at the water. Definitely recommend.

Great location
The weather was very hot and airless. The cottage would benefit from a fan in each bedroom. And the fact that the stairs are very steep and the bathroom is downstairs perhaps needs to be more prominently explained. Otherwise, the cottage is well appointed and in a great location.

Superb cottage in excellent location
We recently stayed in Compass Cottage with our daughter and son-in-law for a week and had a wonderful time. The cottage is well equipped and very cosy. The only challenge I had was the bathroom ceiling height was low for 6 foot 4 inch person. The cottage is in a fantastic location to explore the local area with great pubs and restaurants. Well worth the long drive from Cheshire.
