Cozy Lakefront Log Home

Our home is on Shagawa Lake across from the town of Ely. Steps go down to the lake with deck and dock to relax by the water in a secluded bay, great for viewing loons, eagles, beavers, otters and lots of other wildlife. Enjoy a good sweat in the wood fired sauna and then swim off the dock. It's an easy paddle to explore a group of islands just outside our bay. This house has two bedrooms plus an open loft. There is a jetted Jacuzzi tub in the main bath, and a pool table in the basement which walks out to the patio looking over lake. There are two kayaks and a large canoe for guests to enjoy. **A new dock was installed August 2022!**

It is less than a ten minute drive to town. Multiple hiking areas are near the property, and BWCA entry points are close by as well.

Shagawa Lake boasts great fishing and recreation. Semers park has a public beach, picnic shelter, and trails directly across the lake. There are several resort lodges on Shagawa, two with restaurants, and fishing boat and pontoon boat rentals are also available right on the lake.

The cabin works great for a cozy spot to base your snowmobile or cross country skiing adventures. We have two pairs of snowshoes you are free to use. Giants Ridge ski resort is 45 minute drive.

Well Needed Space
We had been on the road (RV) for a few months and needed some space to relax with our two dogs. From the beginning Mark made the entire experience seamless. He really treats you as his guest without even being there. The term “Mi Casa es su Casa” really exists here at this lovely lake house/cabin.

Outstanding cabin in gorgeous setting
A group of 4 old friends stayed 5 nights in this cozy cabin surrounded by trees and a lake view. Cabin was very comfortable, well located, many great amenities like kayaks, sauna, newer dock, fire pit, well stocked kitchen. Loved being close to Ely; hosts were excellent to work with; cabin is beautiful, peaceful, just the right level of rustic for us. We loved everything about it!

Hidden gem near Ely
Great place, peaceful, quiet, not too far from Ely. Lots of places both inside and outside the cabin to relax and view the lake. Very cozy, well-keot and functional cabin, with lots of games, books, activities for all ages.

Wonderful lake cabin vacation getaway!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Mark's lake loghome for a weeklong vacation. It had everything we needed to relax and hang out as a family (including our dog), whether rain or shine. The views are lovely, the home is well kept, and the amenities are plentiful. We also appreciated the quiet nook on Shagawa Lake while being a quick 10-minute drive into Ely.

The cabin was well-appointed, clean, and comfortable. The grounds were well-kept and very inviting. The only negative point I can think of is the mosquitos were really out this year, but that's Minnesota for you. Maybe next time we stay, we'll give winter a try!

Perfect Winter Getaway
Online, this property looks fantastic. In Person, it is even better! We did so many wonderful winter things: cross country skiing, snow shoeing, ice fishing, hiking and went downhill skiing for the day at Giants Ridge. It was wonderful to come home to a Sauna every night, a nice fire in the stove and such comfortable beds! The kitchen is stocked with everything you might need and there are so many games and books to choose from as well as the different sitting areas and the pool table. Things we especially enjoyed that weren't as obvious in the photos: Windows, Windows, Windows all with beautiful views. The bedroom in the basement was much nicer than we anticipated - it is a really pretty and secluded room. The bathroom on the first floor is not connected to the bedroom and it is so big. This was great because the couple who stayed downstairs and the couple who had the room on the first floor shared that bathroom and it was roomy and private. The little bedroom on the second floor has it's own balcony and was just a treat and the second floor bathroom was also larger than expected. We really enjoyed that at the end of the day (and sometimes naptime) the three couples could retreat to three different levels. Finally, the hosts were extra accommodating and we had a lot of questions as we were planning. They were thoughtful and fast with their responses. We love winter, but this would also be so much fun in the summertime! We will be back.

Exceptional experience from start to finish.
We have used VRBO frequently for years for everything from quick weekend getaways to several-week vacations and all in, our trip to this well-located and well-appointed cabin in Ely, MN was our best experience to date. It began with the hosts' assistance in helping us manage a relatively last-minute change in travel dates while getting the refund due us. Next were the excellent directions to the cabin and the lock programmed to the last four digits of my cellphone number. What a pleasant surprise for road-weary travelers! And the pleasant surprises just kept coming. We knew from the pictures that the cabin and its surroundings on the lake were beautiful, (and everything was even better than the pictures suggested), so it was the extra attention to ease and comfort that we especially appreciated. It truly felt like we were visiting our second home for the week. Coffee already there! ;-). Along with a full array of cooking ingredients and supplies, including storage. We enjoyed several restaurants in Ely, but enjoyed cooking in the cabin even more after returning from hiking, cycling, and kayaking all with points of origin within minutes of the cabin. The final pleasant surprise was getting word from the hosts that with no one checking in our our day of departure, we were free to stay as long into the day as our plans would allow. So great to be able to relax right up until the last minute of hitting the road again for the drive home. (With every intention of returning with a few more family members in tow next time. ;-))

Fall Getaway
We have stayed in the Ely area for a week in the fall for years. Having stayed further away from Ely, this year we wanted to be closer to town and this cabin hit all the checkpoints - and more. They call the cabin Cozy Cabin and it sure is. Anything you need for cooking is in the kitchen. We shared the week with another couple and it was fantastic. After dark - we played pool and another had a campfire by the shore. The sauna was relaxing afater a long day of hiking and canoeing. We tend to go out on daytrips to different lakes and being so centrally located was wonderful in that we could go in any direction from Ely and not have to extra driving as we have had before. We have already rented this cabin for another week next summer when we have our sister and brother-in-law coming for a visit from Florida. Can't wait to go back!

Cozy Cabin
Our vacation was wonderful! The location of Cozy Cabin Is nestled in the Lush scenery of trees, Sagwa lake, and eagles, loons, and ducks. The cabin provided plenty of space and warmth for gathering of friends.. so much to do. The big windows of the cabin allows you to see the Beauty of nature. Sitting by a campfire watching the sunset and getting up in the morning fishing was great. You are close enough to shop in the town of Ely.

Perfect Getaway!
The Cozy Cabin is the ideal getaway! It is a beautiful home on a secluded property with everything you could wish for in a vacation in the woods. The kitchen is perfectly stocked, the beds and furniture are comfortable, and well stocked with games, books, and even a guitar. Outside, the amenities are equally impressive. Beautifully maintained grounds, and direct access to the water. There are miles of shoreline and islands to explore by kayak and canoe (something we did every single day). Sunsets on the dock are absolutely breathtaking, and it was a treat to watch the beaver swim by every evening! Thank you, Mark and family, for sharing your property with us, and for being so enjoyable to communicate with!

We were exceedingly impressed by how hard Mark and Michelle work to maintain and upgrade their Cozy Cabin and grounds including the new dock, fire pit, sauna, deck and stairs! The cabin’s hardwood floors, log walls and quilt display are stunning! Our nature favorites are the small stand of white cedar near the lake and wilderness view across the bay of mature white pines with nesting eagles on the Miller’s Point peninsula.

Wonderful Cabin Getaway!
We loved our stay at this cabin! A very peaceful place with a great view of the lake and sunsets. The use of the canoe and kayaks was super nice. The new dock and lakefront is great for relaxing and swimming. Everything was very clean and well stocked. Many of us have been going into the BWCA for years and this was our first time "cabin glamping" in the area. It was perfect! The view of the lake and privacy of the cabin really felt like we were at a BWCA campsite, with more modern amenities than we had time to explore! If you like to grill with propane and have a small camping sized propane grill, we recommend to bring along. There are two charcoal grills, one by the lake and a small portable camping one. A few folding camp chairs are nice to have around too. We highly recommend this cabin!

Fantastic lake cabin
This is a gorgeous property on a great lake. The cabin was spacious for our family of five, yet cozy enough for family time. We loved the sauna that is just steps from the lake. We even caught a 3 pound bass right off of the brand new dock. Communication with the owner was excellent. The cabin was well stocked with everything you need to feel at home. What a great house and property! We spent our days hiking, fishing, canoeing and paddle boarding. We really enjoyed observing the wildlife right at the waters edge-ducks, beavers, eagles, loons and snakes. Our group had three teens who also loved the bay and swimming!

The Cozy Cabin was exactly as advertised
Everything about the cabin was exactly as was listed and it was perfect for our family! The host was super responsive to questions and very easy to communicate with. We especially liked the ‘extras’ that were provided like the kayaks, ample firewood, toys and games in cabin for kids, etc. It’s also an awesome huge lake to explore with some restaurants you can boat to. Only tiny little negative was the water was a bit rocky and deep for toddler to play in the water. But I think the water was high due to some recent storms. There’s a wonderful public beach we went to one day for toddler water playtime. I highly recommend the Cozy Cabin for a true northern MN lake experience. And it’s close to Ely which is another plus!

Very special place!
We absolutely enjoyed our stay !!! We loved having our morning coffee on the deck while watching the sunrise. Falling asleep to the sound of Loons. We went swimming and kayaking on the hot days and hiked the Bass Lake trail, went to the Dorothy Molter Museum as well as the Wolf Center on the misty rainy days. At night we watched the sun set and played pool while watching a movie . There is so much to do, rain or shine!! We would love to return next year!! Thank you again!
