Samara Surf House is an oceanfront residence built in 2018 by an American expat contractor who partnered with Nicaraguan builders. The house and grounds have been regularly updated ever since.
The property is one-acre and very private with a gated entrance and 8-foot rock walls on three sides. The property opens onto the ocean and a large sandy beach on the west side. The views are nothing short of epic. The beach right in front is excellent for swimming and body surfing with a sand bar and mellow currents. Perfect for all ages.
The Coco Locos surf break is 200 mts north on the same beach. On good days, it is a nice left that can barrel. The inside break is good for beginners. Nahualapa surf break is a 9 min (2.9km) drive. The Boom surf break (world class barrel) is a 12 min drive (5 km) in the dry season and a 20 min drive in wet season (have to use a different road). If you want to explore there are more breaks to find.
The property has a new (2024) swimming pool and outdoor covered patio (rancho) surrounded by a large, pleasant lawn. The rancho is an excellent space for morning coffee, yoga or just staying out of the sun while feeling the afternoon onshore winds after a morning surf. There are also hammocks and lounge chairs. The property has two outdoor showers .
The property has a full garage with a washing machine and utility sink, providing a great and secure storage place for surfboards and other gear. There is separate caretaker cottage with a full-time caretaker to assist with any concerns and to watch over the property. The house has a separate manager who also owns the local hardware store, speaks fluent English, and can address any questions or concerns.
The house strives to be simple, natural, and utilitarian, with beautiful tropical hardwood finishes and open air flow. It has two bedrooms downstairs with a queen bed and AC in each room. There is an open concept large kitchen, dining, and living area, that opens onto a patio with a dining table and ocean views. Downstairs also has a full bathroom with a walk-in shower.
The second-floor loft space is wide-open with 20-foot ceilings, tropical hardwood floors, and incredible ocean views. It is another excellent space for yoga . The loft also has a queen bed and a half bath.
The house has WIFI.
VISITING APOSENTILLO, NICARAGUA:
Renting an SUV or truck is recommended so you can easily get around and have the extra clearance for the some of the dirt roads, but a car will work. 4WD is not necessary unless you want to drive on the beach. There are five or six great restaurants nearby that the many expats in the area frequent. The area is safe (Nicaragua has the least crime of all of the Central American countries and this feels especially true in and around Aposentillo). If you are the type of person that does not have have patience for the occasional loss of WiFi or AC, the northern Nicaragua trip may not be for you, because there are occasional power outages. However, generally this is not a problem, but it happens on occasion and you have to roll with it. In the end, being off the beaten path is what makes this place so spectacular and a true tropical surf and yoga heaven.
