... however, the pictures and description online do not show the true state of this rental.
This property is in a less-than-desirable apartment complex that looks run-down and somewhat unsafe, although the area ended up being much quieter than we originally thought it would be. Most of the noise came from late night party goers nearby who were all crammed into the city for the Fringe festival and not from the residents of the apartments. On the plus side, this apartment is a short walk from the heart of the city and the Royal Mile, which partially made up for its other less-than-desirable traits.
The pictures online do not show the true condition of this place, though. The apartment is on the first floor of a tall building and there is a second floor beneath the first floor located in what could be considered a basement.
The apartment needs a lot of updating and upgrades. The furniture is tired and well-used and there was a musty, wet smell that permeated the whole place, especially the basement area, where two small bedrooms and a bathroom are located. The basement bathroom had mold around the sink and was very dim and somewhat scary.
The advertisement states that there is a bathroom with a shower AND a bathroom with a shower and tub; however, there was only one shower/tub combo in the basement bathroom and no shower in the small upstairs bathroom, which ended up not working well for our group of 8 people who stayed in the apartment.
I hate to leave such a negative review, but we were very surprised with the true condition of the place when we arrived and would have found another place to stay had there been one available. The property owner was quick to respond to our messages and did immediately come to fix the fridge that wasn't working when we first arrived. With new carpet, new furniture, new paint and some new walls and upgrades, this place could be a really nice place to stay.
