This Edinburgh area holiday house was newbuilt as new self contained wing of Rathan House (1852). Set in the leafy upmarket Eskbank conservation area , it has 2 french windows from the lounge to a shared croquet lawn and quiet south facing walled garden.
Off street parking. 2 very good restaurants and a pleasant pub within 200 metres.

Excellent Edinburgh park and ride retreat with buses every 10 mins and trains every half hour to central Edinburgh. Edinburgh , the Lothians and the Borders have too many visitor attractions to cite all, the owners can help design bespoke daytrips - Eg Hogwarts Alnwick , Holy Isle and Hadrians Wall ; Traquair, Bowhill and Abbotsford; North Berwick Seabird center beeches and Museum of Flight.

Edinburgh speaks for itself but note that this Dalkeith vacation rental is 5 kilometres from Roslin Chapel., 1km from the Butterfly farm and Dobbies ..& 800 metres from Dalkeith Palace.

The house has a large kitchen diner with seating for 6 (8 at a push) ...3 showers , 4 wc's and a bidet. It has sash and case wooden double glazing and high standard modern insulation. The owners take pride in the housekeeping standards.

This apartment was as advertised; spacious and well located in a suburb of Edinburgh. The hosts are generally busy with a b&b in the main part of the building, but were helpful when we needed it and interesting to talk to. And they have a couple of lovely dogs on the property.

Heel fijn huis. Parkeren voor de deur. Veel badkamers. Fijne tuin. Supermarkt dichtbij, bushalte voor de deur waar paar keer per uur een bus naar Edinburgh gaat in een half uurtje. Leuke dingen voor de kinderen in het dorp.

Convenient Location

We enjoyed our stay at the Dalkeith, Eskbank, UK Vacation Rental. It was conveniently located to shopping, transportation, and Edinburgh. It was easy to get around and we weren't stuck in the busy center of Edinburgh.

Wonderful home near Edinburgh

Our stay at the Ratham Guest House was wonderful! The home was outfitted with everything we needed for our 21-day stay. We were warmly welcomed by Irene and Ewan who were kind and gracious hosts. Ewan gave us great pointers on where to go and what to see during our stay. The kitchen is nicely appointed which we appreciated because we did a great deal of cooking. Another bonus was the washer and dryer which allowed us to minimize our packing for the journey. The home is lovely, very clean, roomy, and pleasant on all accounts. The 4 bathrooms were great and would definitely make for an easy stay for a larger group. The town of Dalkeith has many nice places to grab a meal or tea. (Lavender Coffee & Crumbs quickly became our favorite spot to go for tea and a snack. The Turkish breakfast was delicious!)Morrison’s grocery is only a 5-minute walk from the house. There is bus service to anywhere we wanted to go with stops just steps from the house. (Note: Although the house is on a busy street, we heard very little traffic noise from inside the home.)Overall, our stay was everything we’d hoped for; a lovely home, well equipped kitchen, with friendly and helpful hosts on site. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it highly.

Fantastic place to stay

My wife and I and our 3 older kids loved staying here. The place is very nice and the 3 separate showers were really helpful. It’s close to a bus stop that we used to head into Edinburgh each day. We would absolutely stay here again.

Christmas in Edinburgh

Our family of 5 adults had a lovely stay at the Rathan house…it’s so quaint with a pretty view of the garden from the living room which we enjoyed every morning with our coffee…the place comes completely prepared and organized and clean…the bus stop for Edinburgh is conveniently located right outside …we would definitely stay here again! Delightful Dalkeith Domicile

The guest house was exceptionally comfortable and well suited for my stay of 7 days (and would have been well suited for any length of time). The kitchen had everything I would have hoped for as far as being able to prepare my own meals. Dalkeith and environs have lovely parks and I thoroughly enjoyed the discoveries I made of wooded walks and history. I wondered if I would regret not renting a car. In fact, I was easily able to get everywhere I wanted by foot, bus, or train. A comfortable double-decker bus to Edinburgh is literally 2 minutes from the property. I gladly spent time at The Fringe festival in Edinburgh and at the Dalkeith retreat. The hosts are lovely people and made excellent suggestions for activities in Edinburgh and in the towns surrounding Dalkeith. I hope to return someday to stay once more at this wonderful place.

Truly delightful!

What a great place for our family! Beautiful garden (complete with 2 sweet dogs) that offered a very pleasant respite after a day of sightseeing. The accommodations were perfect with ample space and comfort. The location was ideal for bus service to the city center, Rosslyn Chapel, and the beach. And, a good grocery with easy walking distance. Stunning house and grounds

We had a lovely stay in this spacious comfortable cottage. Our hosts were lovely and accommodating. Great selective bins and composting very good for the environment. Thank you and would love to come back soon.

Wonderful!

Irene's place was perfect for my Aunt and I. We enjoy the comforts of a home when we travel and that's exactly what we got at Irene's. Plus the bus was just outside the door making the trips into Edinburgh so easy. The walk to downtown Dalkeith and restaurants was less than 10 minutes. The hosts were very helpful in directing us into their place with the unintended late arrival and in arranging a taxi for our trip to the airport. I only regret that I didn't have time to enjoy the beautiful garden. If you want all the amenities, plenty of space, easy access, parking, beautiful surroundings all at a great value this is the place to stay.

Lovely home in a great location

Wanted a few days to relax prior to a 10 day tour of Scotland. The Holiday house was perfect for two couples. Fantastic communication with owners and comfortable home. Zwischenstopp in Edinburgh

Große Ferienwohnung und freundlicher Empfang. Sehr sauber und in gutem Zustand. Wir haben wunderbar geschlafen. Busstation nach Edinburgh Innenstadt nur wenige Schritte entfernt (alle 12 Minuten, 30 Minuten Fahrtzeit), ebenso Supermarkt und Restaurants. Wir würden jederzeit wieder buchen.

Scotland trip

We had so much fun in Scotland. Our host lived on the property and so was there to answer questions, let us in and was there if we had any questions. We met our hosts several times out in the garden as we were unwinding from our day. The site was very close to the train station, there were several stores to get groceries and we were very close to Roslin Chapel. We also drove to Stirling one day. Our rooms were comfortable and we each had our own shower. Plenty of room for the three in our party. Thank you so much for all your help. Our hosts were good communicators and they even called me before we left to speak with us about our trip. You can trust this one with your stay.
