Hiland road starts just off the 2nd Glenn highway exit headed North out of Anchorage and climbs up into this postcard mountain valley. The road is paved and well maintained, however we always recommend being prepared for potential delays caused by winter storms. The plow crews are true experts and will amaze you with how well they manage the elements but given the location, it can take up to 2 days to clear things up.
You will be staying at mile 7.3, just a half a mile from the popular Upper South Fork Eagle River Trailhead! 15 minutes to downtown Eagle River and 25 minutes to northeast Anchorage.
AWD or 4WD and winter tires are needed from October to April. Previous winter driving experience is highly recommended.
