Monthly, rental, Heart of Old Town, Walk to Everything, Work Space, BBQ, Patio

The Julia Rose West is a month to month fully furnished rental and is the west side of a duplex of an historic home in Old Town Durango. We have a city permitted short term rental on the East side of this duplex. We can send you the listing if you would like to see that as an option.
You will be walking into a spotlessly cleaned and disinfected space at your check-in.
There are handrails at the front and back entrances.
The Julia Rose is named after our middle daughter and the beautiful Pink Rose bushes in the front and backyard. Built in 1898, this historic Victorian home has recently been updated with contemporary elements and has a nice blend of old with the new. There is a remodeled kitchen and bath and newly finished wood flooring, paint, window coverings, furnishings and appliances including a washer/dryer and very quiet dishwasher.
The Living Room is the largest area in the home and has a Queen Murphy Bed, a sofa, side chair and a separate desk area. There is a wall mounted mini split for A/C and a furnace for heat in colder months.

The Kitchen has a granite counter with a counter height table that seats three. The kitchen is fully furnished so you can create anything from a gourmet dinner to a smoothie.

The bedroom adjoins the bathroom and is very small but cozy and comfortable with a Queen plush mattress and designer bedding and duvet cover, and a closet and dresser.
The Bathroom is also very small and is tiled with a shower/tub so you can soak and relax after a long day out. The view from the tub is like being in a 'secret garden'. There is a window unit A/C for hotter months.

PLEASE NOTE: The bathroom is very small and guests have to walk into the bedroom to get to the bathroom. It may not be a good fit for people who have difficulties in tight spaces.

The short term rental on the East side of the property have dedicated use of the front porch. The Julia Rose West has her own back patio with a propane grill access and outdoor furniture to relax in privacy and comfort. The entrances are separate. There is extra sound insulation between the two units. We are a strict non smoking building.

There is space for one car in the parking lot with a back and front door entrance if you prefer to park in the street. The flat screen TV we provide cable internet with the highest speeds available via Spectrum Cable with TV via Amazon Firestick. This house is in the prime downtown location in a quiet historic neighborhood off of the busy Third Avenue. Main Street is three blocks away and you will be right in the center of all of the fabulous restaurants and downtown coffee shops and shopping.
Upon arrival, you will enter the house with a coded lock and grab the key for the back door, The front door is closer to unpacking and unloading and the back door is closer to the off the street parking.
You can settle in by having a cool drink on the back patio or walking a few blocks to Main Avenue to relax at one of the coffee shops or brewpubs.
Please note this is a non-smoking unit, which includes marijuana smoking. We are very strict with our non-smoking policy.
We do allow dogs with pre-approval on a case by case basis.

Great location - very walkable
We picked this house for its short walk to town. The location is great! The house is a good size for 2 people but be prepared to get creative when storing your stuff.

Great property and great location
We spent a month and couldn't have asked for a better location. The neighborhood is beautiful and conveniently located within walking distance to restaurants, grocery stores - all forms of shopping. The unit was tidy and clean with all the amenities you could ask for. Additionally it was great to have on property parking. I would highly recommend.

Perfect place for home base for 3 weeks
Sarah’s place was perfect for my husband and I who were working remote while exploring Durango! You can beat the location and the house has everything we needed for our extended stay. Karen took care of the house and was wonderful to work with. Would definitely stay here again for a short or long term stay. Thanks, Sarah!

Great place to stay in downtown Durango
My wife and I stayed at the Julia rose on a business trip this past weekend. It's a cozy duplex located near downtown Durango with short walks to food, the river, and shopping. The bed was extremely comfortable, though the floor in the bedroom creaks. It was a clean and comfortable stay, and we'd highly recommend it.

Cute place with a great little fenced patio area for us & our schnauzers. Close to everything. The location was great. We took our dogs everywhere which we really loved. Nice size kitchen & flex living area. The Murphy bed was a great add.

The Julia Rose is a cute little cottage with all the charm of grandma's house! It is quiet, comfy and convenient. It's location is great and within walking distance of downtown Durango. We were able to walk everywhere we needed to go while we were there. We are looking forward to our next stay!

Vacationing with dogs
My husband, dogs, and I thoroughly enjoyed our stayed. The chairs and bed are comfortable, the kitchen amenities great (including sharp knives for cutting food!), WiFi quick, very close to town, and yard big enough for the dogs. Snow covered the back yard, but the dogs were happy with the rest of the yard. Osha was great to work with, and we truly appreciate working with us on our last minute trip and multiple dogs. Durango is a great town for dogs with lots of hiking areas and very large off-leash dog park.

Great location. Terrible bed.
Many positives about the Julia Rose including location, bathroom tolitries, and responsiveness of the property manager. Beware, that the bed provided is lumpy and sagging and terribly uncomfortable. Moreover, the bed is pushed against a wall so that one of you (traveling pair) will have to be smothered against it.

Great Location
This house couldn't be in a better spot for enjoying downtown Durango for a few days. Clean, well repaired and great living/kitchen areas. Only two small caveats- this house is a duplex where almost every sound made in one space is audible in the next. The tenants next door were considerate, so we managed to make it all work just fine. Also, the bedroom/bathroom is extremely small and you have to go through the bedroom across a very squeaky floor to get to the bathroom which caused some issues- especially with late night or early morning potty breaks.

The Julia Rose was perfect for me during my stay in Durango.
I loved that the Julia Rose is within walking distance of the Animas River Trail! The property was clean and well maintained. The generous living room and the bay window were great. The kitchen was well equipped with updated appliances and all of the utensils needed to cook meals. I appreciated being able to wash clothes in the washer and dryer. The description of the bedroom and bathroom being small was very accurate, but the bed was extremely comfortable and the bathroom had all the essentials! I enjoyed coffee in the morning in the back yard at the table and chairs. Osha was very responsive to any questions I had. I would definitely recommend the Julia Rose to anyone looking for a comfortable home in which to stay. Thanks!

fall/winter
wow, wow and wow. this place is a great location, clean, homey and had ALL the necessities you would need. so many VRBO units have about 2 rolls of toilet paper and that's about it. this place had covid masks, tons of TP, paper towels, spices, cooking oil, coffee, oil, pots, pans - really everything you would need for the basics. they even called when we arrived to ask if there was anything else we needed and not to hesitate to call. all we needed was our groceries...they had EVERYTHING else covered. probably the BEST vrbo we have used and we have been vrbo-ing for years and years. i wish i could give them a #15 on a scale of 1-10. we will be back!!!!!

Great location but "just okay"
The property itself has wonderful potential but it's current state is just "okay" when compared to the many other rentals in which I have stayed. The only bedroom is tiny with a comfortable bed but there is no door and opens into a short hall between the kitchen and a small mud room. The only bath is in this bedroom. No big deal except the floor is so creaky that it wakes up the bedroom occupants. Also, the other bed (pull out couch) was in poor condition, one end dipping considerably. The home description included two bikes for use so we brought one with us expecting to use theirs. Turned out that this was misinformation so we had to rent two bikes for $30 each. The blind in the bedroom broke when I went to pull it back up in the evening. I was informed that it usually stays up (but it was exactly like every other blind and we opened those every day). Also, the oven did not work. Don't get me wrong, none of these things stopped us from enjoying ourselves but we certainly expected more "comfort" for the cost. Quirky can be great fun but it should not impede on comfort.

Great location, but some issues...
This is my 8th rental in 2021 as I am on an extended WFH road trip… and since I count heavily on others reviews when booking I will be as honest and kind as possible here. On the positive side, the location of this home is utterly perfect. You are close to main street with all it’s great restaurants and close to numerous hiking/biking options. Parking in front of the house is usually available too. The kitchen dishes and glassware were spotless. On the flip side, I did have some issues that I feel it’s important to mention. Upon arrival, I was disappointed to find that the comforter was visibly dirty and the towels were crunchy. So I spent a few hours doing laundry so I would feel more comfortable and clean in the home. The sheets were washed, just not entirely clean, as I found ‘those’ hairs there and in the bathtub. The windows should NOT be opened in this house as it is unsafe. One shattered on me as I tried to open it. This is problematic not only because it created a bloody mess and cuts for me, but also because it becomes stuffy inside when the weather is warm. The window AC unit is in the main room, so to sleep near it, you’re on the murphy bed. Otherwise, you could sleep in the actual bedroom with the back screen door open, but there is a large hole in the screen. I found the bed to be concave and bought a mattress topper from Walmart on day 2. For those who work from home, the wifi is not fast & went out temporarily 5 out of 10 days I used it. One day there was an area-wide wifi provider outage and I had to go to the library to work. That’s out of Sarah’s control obviously. Sarah communicated with me about issues I was having, and I did appreciate that. In the future, I’d recommend that the property manager reach out before stopping by, or at the very least, knock before entering. Soon after I arrived, she walked in unannounced, which alarmed me and my dog, and frankly, it was frightening and completely disrespectful. She continued to try to talk with me as my dog was barking at her and I finally had to ask her to call me to talk further if needed. While I realize she was trying to be friendly & welcome me, entering without knocking is pretty shocking. Overall, great location, not my favorite stay.

Weekend getaway
Lovely spot within walking distance of downtown. Great smalltown aesthetic and cozy vibe of this place. Every evening we would explore the town make a reservation and if we had to wait for dinner it was just a short stroll back to the house to wait for a table. Is a dog friendly property which is much appreciated.
