Classic Colorado Cabin on the Florida River - 20 Minutes to Downtown Durango

NOTE: 4WD/AWD required in winter (Thanksgiving through late March).

Enjoy end-of-the-road privacy in this quintessential Colorado river cabin located within a 20 minute drive from Durango. In the mountains and on the Florida river, this is a great location as "base camp" while enjoying all that the Durango area has to offer.

It’s all about the riverfront location!  Outside, the wraparound deck is a great place to enjoy morning coffee, relax in the rocking chairs or fish, and it’s a great place to view the starry night skies.  Fall foliage is spectacular with aspen and other seasonal trees surrounding the home, and winter snow creates a unique mountain getaway at this home.

The cabin layout includes the main level with kitchen, living room, dining room and the large deck at river's edge, with both a covered section containing rocking chairs and benches, and an open area with picnic table, BBQ grill chiminea fireplace and steps leading to the lawn and riverbank beyond.  The open living area and deck make a fine gathering place for friends and family.  There is an AC Unit in the upstairs bedroom.

Our home has shared private Florida river access and access to Treasure Island - a shared community recreation area that's perfect for family fishing outings, picnics, and nature adventures. With Vallecito Lake a 15 minute drive, and Lemon Lake 8 minute drive from our home guests have easy access to robust fishing, boating, and paddle boarding opportunities. This home has very limited cell service.

Stay with us and we offer DISCOUNTS on both summer (white water rafting, horseback riding etc.) and winter (ski/snowboard rentals, sleigh rides, snowmobile tours etc.) activities.

Please note that, like most properties in the area, this home does not have AC, as it is uncommon for homes at this elevation. Temperatures inside the property are easily managed by using fans and opening the windows at night when temperatures drop into the 40s.

Peaceful cabin in a beautiful location
We came out to Durango for some R&R and this was certainly the place for it. Love the location on the river and end-of-the-road privacy. We had trouble using our code to get into the property but it was fairly quickly remedied by property management. No other issues for us. We would stay here again. We are considering bringing our daughter and grandson out here next year.

Cozy cabin on river.
Cozy cabin near river. Quiet mountain getaway plenty of room, stocked with most essentials. We did experience mice the first night stay and large black ants in multiple down stairs rooms. Secluded at end of drive. Our family had a very relaxing time and still close enough to drive into Durango for food and shopping.

The property is dated, but clean inside. Outside could use some help. Property management is superb! The property is secluded among large trees at the end of the road. Outside shed porch comes complete with rocking chairs and lots of space for dining.

Overall stay
Bed in main bedroom was comfortable to my wife and I. We normally sleep on a Tempurpedic medium firm bed. Cabin was at the end of the lane past several other homes and had a large nice deck that overlooked the Florida river. Only negative was a broken sliding screen on the sliding door leading to the main deck. Otherwise, the cabin was clean, well kept and quietly secluded. Parking was a little tight but no problem.

Beautiful Place
We decided to spend Christmas in Durango and do the Polar Express on Christmas Eve. We stayed for 7days. This cabin was perfect it had beautiful views and plenty of room for the 5 of us. The kitchen provided everything I needed to make Christmas dinner. The upstairs was perfect for the kids and the cabin was close enough to all the fun that Durango provided. Only suggestions I’d make is changing out all the mattresses. All the mattresses were pretty uncomfortable especially the king size bed. We cosleep with our 15month old and it was so lumpy and soft it was all over the place. We couldn’t really sleep comfortably. Also it would’ve helped alot if we would’ve had some cleaning supplies like a broom or maybe even a vacuum. Staying a week it would’ve been nice to have access to those things. Other than that this place was perfect for our vacation!

Florida River Cabin in Durango
The Florida River, outside the house, with a deck that provides an amazing front row seat, is the main attraction and the selling point of this home. Unfortunately, our experience was different than the reviews read before booking. Time had to be spent cleaning off cobwebs that covered all outdoor chairs and tables as well as the house windows, screens, and deck railings. The deck was covered in dirt, dust, and pinetree needles. Come inside and cobwebs were found in most wall corners and light fixtures. Both bathroom shower heads need to be replaced. The worst issue was the antiquated stovetop as there was no drip pan for the cast iron grill top so therefore it drained into the bottom cabinet base. As was the case with the bbq grill that was missing a drip pan and drippings drained underneath onto the deck. Both were found after the fact and required more time spent cleaning. Also under the Jenn-aire stovetop, the ductwork for the exhaust fan was supported by an old coffee can which fell aside causing it to not vent properly which in turn caused the smoke alarm to continually go off. Both the front door and rear sliding door stuck so bad we could barely open them. We did not contact Property Management because we just wanted to spend our time enjoying Durango. Hopefully these issues will be addressed before the next guests.

Reviewer Comments: Let me start that the location of this home is great. You are about 20 minutes to Durango and within 2 hours of all kinds of day trips. Being able to sit on the porch and listen to the river is what sells this cabin. We stayed 7 nights and found on the surface the cabin was clean but when you start looking it is in need of a deep cleaning. It would have been nice to have a few cleaning supplies during our duration or at least a broom. This house is outdated and both beds need to be replaced. This cabin could be top notch with a few improvements. We were all concerned with safety that the larger windows were all screwed shut (the ones that opened an adult couldn’t use incase if a fire) both doors have a deadbolt that requires a key to lock/unlock from the inside. We kept the door key in the deadbolt at night incase we needed out of the house quickly incase if an emergency. We did not see any mice, but did see signs that there have been recently in the downstairs bedroom and found a nest under the bathroom sink. We were four adults and enjoyed or time at the cabin and the Durango area.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The cabin was not properly maintained. The coffee maker and bbq grill were not operable when we got there. The managing company did replace them but these things should be working upon the guests' arrival - kind of sets back your vacation when the essentials aren't working properly and you have to wait a day or two for coffee or to grill the meat you brought, and you don't plan to drive into town. Management company was responsive but was in reactive mode versus prepared. Sliding glass door was extremely hard to open (needed wd-40) and screen was off - they were not able to fix it though we asked. We had to walk around the house to get out to the deck which is not ideal for the price we paid for the vacation. The river was beautiful. House was relatively clean (dusty and had cobwebs); the cookware and furniture were cheap quality. I was disappointed in the overall home experience but the location and peacefulness was great.
