LOCATION
Heritage Quarter is in a fantastic location on Dunfermline’s High Street with the renowned Heritage Quarter right on your doorstep. Check out Dunfermline Abbey, founded by Queen Margaret in the eleventh century, where King Robert the Bruce is buried. Learn about local hero billionaire philanthropist Andrew Carnegie at his Birthplace Museum then take a wander around beautiful Pittencrieff Park which Carnegie bequeathed to the town. There are also some great independent cafes, bars, restaurants and shops to explore, including the historic Abbott House, known as “The Pink Hoose” by locals - you’ll know it when you see it!
Beyond Dunfermline, there is loads to explore. The historic borough of Culross is just 15 minutes drive away and also reachable by bus, where you can wander through cobbled streets that have been featured in the Outlander series, as well as visit Culross Palace or enjoy tea and cake at a local cafe.
Head along the coast and explore the seaside villages like Aberdour, Crail and Anstruther, or take a day trip to St Andrews, the home of golf. The village of Falkland, another Outlander filming location, has charming shops to explore as well as historic Falkland Palace, which features the world’s oldest tennis court still in play today. Walkers are spoilt for choice with the Fife Coastal Path and Fife Pilgrims Way offering spectacular routes for a day out or multi-day adventure.
Dunfermline is a great base for a holiday or business trip with good rail and bus links to Edinburgh (just 18 miles away) as well as Stirling, Perth, Glasgow and St Andrews.
