Auchen Ladder is in a lovely, peaceful, rural location yet ideally located to visit the surrounding area which is simply beautiful. There is a huge range of activities close by no matter what time of year you visit. The county town of Dumfries, 4½ miles away, provides a wide range of shops as well as many interesting historical sites including Burns House, the home of the famous Scottish poet, Robert Burns.
Driving round this beautiful area of south west Scotland has so much to offer from the quiet sandy coves and cliff top walks to the many castles like Caerlaverock and Drumlanrig. Warmed by the Gulf Stream, this area has many beautiful gardens to visit, including Threave Gardens and Logan Botanic Gardens, Scotland’s most exotic garden. A stay here would also not be complete without taking a drive along the coast and a wander round the little seaside villages of Southerness, Rockcliffe and Kippford. Almost on your doorstep there are some supreme mountain biking and challenging hill walks, and with some of the darkest skies in the world where better to end the day at Auchen Ladder. Beach 17¾ miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 4½ miles.
