Chateau d'Vine Victorian Farmhouse

Summary:
Chateau d'Vine is a historical home with Victorian nods and wine themed rooms. The home is located on the border of Saugatuck and Douglas just north of the historic Root Beer Barrel on the road to Oval Beach. Built in the 1870's by William Graham Tisdale, the main house, three cabins and a recreation room is the perfect getaway location for a large group of family and friends. This home comes from a labor of love from the owners who are passionate about the arts, enjoying wine and playing games

The Space:
Chateau d’Vine is the perfect place to unwind with a glass of locally sourced wine and one of the 100+ games available from the game selection in the recreation room. Grill and dine outside, play lawn games, or soak in the heated hot tub with panoramic views of the expansive natural wetlands. Finally, gather around the fire for s’mores before snuggling into one of the many bed options available. The home will comfortably accommodate all guests, with plenty of room for everyone to stretch out and enjoy a little privacy in a smaller area if needed. This is the ideal location for extended vacations, family gatherings, retreats and more.

Wedding stay
The property was able to accommodate 9 adults and 5 kids with room to spare. The house is charming and cabins give added privacy. We couldn’t use game room due to a damp musty smell Since there was only 1 tv in the house we spent time visiting on the porch and playing in the yard. The location is convenient and many deer citings were exciting.

Family reunion
This property was perfect for our family. There were 8 adults and 6 kids ranging in age from 3-72. Lots of room to spread out. Kitchen was well equipped. Front porch was great for morning coffee and evening cocktails. The Ferry road closure was a little inconvenient but turned out fine because it reduced the traffic. Loved the short walk to the coffee shop!

Wonderful location
Chateau D'Vine was the perfect spot for our family as we gathered for our son's wedding. The place was clean, the beds very comfortable. It's a charming old house. We found the inside common areas to be a little cramped for how many the house holds.

Thanksgiving Fun getaway for friends
We 4 colleagues and our families decided to get away from Chicago for Thanksgiving weekend. This was a good place to get away to, with 5 bedrooms (including a kids room with a bunk bed) in the main house, three other bedrooms in standalone cabins, and a game room with enough games to keep a horde of kids occupied. The entire compound is well-maintained, and is great for a large group.

Weekend Stay
The property was just as described. It was 5 minutes at most from Saugatuck and minutes from the beach. We held a very private wedding there with about 10 guests. The grounds were pretty and there were tons of games for the kids to play with. Would highly recommend!

Lovely home for a family vacation
Chateau d’Vine provided a wonderful location for a large family gathering. The house comfortably provided accommodations for multiple families with people ranging from ages 3 to 87. Very clean. Short drive to downtown Douglas, Saugatuck and beaches. Multiple fun activities (large firepit, hot tub, games). Plenty of seating inside and outside. I would definitely return for another visit!!

Amazing
The property was well maintained - all the essentials were provided - great location for all the things to do in the area! Loved the front porch & the screened porch for meals! Only problem was hot water in the master bath! Everyone else had hot water! We didn't use the hot tub or firepit but great to have!

Long Weekend Getaway with Friends
We had a long weekend and had a great stay with 6 couples in the house, property was as described and well maintained. Walkable to Douglas and Saugatuck (30 min.). Great setting to lounge in and kitchen was really well equipped with everything you needed - actually very surprised how well equipped. Really enjoyed it. We had a problem with one of the electronic locks and the property manager was very fast to respond to help resolve the issue. Would definitely stay here again with a large group!

Something for everyone
We stayed in the Chateau for a high school friends reunion trip. Our group included 10 adults, 2 teens, 2 small children and 2 dogs. Plenty of space for all of us, lots of fun in the yard playing games. We utilized the fire pit nightly and the patio for coffee each morning. As noted, group space inside the house is small - but doable. And there is a ton of space outside. Highly recommend — clean, manager was responsive, check in/check out was easy and the “honey do” list was COMPLETELY reasonable! Really enjoyed our experience.

Beautiful property
We were just 10 people so we had plenty of room in the four bedroom main house and three cabins. The kitchen was well appointed and we had enough seating at the dining table for all of us to dine together. The screened in porch was lovely, and mornings we sat out on the decks to listen to the birds. We saw some beautiful orioles and a green heron. The hot tub was well maintained and we had a nice soak after climbing the stairs at Mt Baldy. My 94YO father was thrilled to be able to spend time with all his children and most grandchildren in this beautiful setting.

A great family getaway
We had a great experience with Upscale Rentals. They were very responsive to all of our questions and the house and cabin came equipped with everything we needed. The game room was a nice addition for the kids but did have a very musty odor and the door was broken from the inside so if the kids shut the door tight they got trapped. Wait maybe that’s a good thing 😃 The living room is very small but it wasn’t a big deal for us, we mostly used the front porch and the screened in patio. One other piece of feedback, I would add another garbage container. For a home holding 23 people and once a week trash pick-up, we ran out of room in the bins.

No compensation
Our recent stay at the Chateau d’Vine left us with mixed feelings. While the main house was comfortable, we were disappointed to discover that the advertised rec room was unexpectedly unavailable throughout our entire stay. We chose this property for its 8 bedrooms and also with the understanding that the rec room, equipped with various games, would offer additional living space for our family. This wasn't communicated to us until the evening before arrival. Email communication up until the arrival date mentioned instructions for accessing the rec room. It significantly impacted our overall experience. The limited living space in the main house became quite challenging, especially with a larger group. We were counting on the rec room for additional entertainment options and a place for family members to gather. Our frustration primarily stems from the lack of communication and compensation regarding the rec room's unavailability. While we understand that unexpected issues can arise, clear and proactive communication is crucial to ensure a positive guest experience.
