Great location close to the beach, restaurants/nightlife, and just across the street from Dewey Post for breakfast and coffee. Appears to be recently renovated, rooms were cute and clean. Check info sent ahead of time, so got to go straight to room on arrival. Wi-Fi wasn’t fantastic but good enough for basic use.

Had a great stay over a busy October weekend. Andre, the manager, was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Rooms have a cute surfing, beach theme. Rooms were clean with strong AC. BEDS WERE comfortable with lots of pillows:). Would recommend and stay again

The Surf Shanty was a great choice for our trip to Dewey Beach. We seek clean, nice lodging that are quiet and away from the fray, and this motel is just 2 blocks from the south end of town so it delivered. Providing bikes was a really nice perk, we took full advantage. Being on the beach block meant a super easy walk to the beach with toting beach stuff, and easy to get back to the room if needed. Easy walking distance to restaurants and shops and close to the DE seashore state park (Towers Beach just south). The facility is an older property, but had recently been renovated. Very well maintained, very clean. The only things that could have been better is the AC was a builtin wall unit, and it was fairly noisy when the compressor was running. Also, aside from the bed the only other seating was one metal chair with a tiny table next to it. A second and perhaps more comfortable chairs would have been a nice thing. There was a nice under the counter sized fridge in the room. One with a small freezer section would have been helpful to keep our cooler freeze blocks frozen, and a small microwave would have been useful. Aside from those small things, the room was as advertised, and staying there was a pretty good value for the price. The manager Andre was also very helpful, informative and accessible.

Property was unique and cool. Andre the on site attendant was friendly and helpful. Checkin was not smooth and no texts or emails were answered at any point, there was no daily housekeeping, smoke alarm went off multiple times for no reason, room was starting to show signs of wear.
