Our house is right off I-235 just minutes from downtown, great restaurants, family-friendly activities, and nightlife. You’ll love our place because of the adorable kitchen, unique dining room, cozy feel, and vintage detail. It's located in a very friendly neighborhood with Callanan playground and running track right across the street. The house is perfect for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, families with kids, big groups, and four legged friends. There is a $50 fee per dog.
You will love the unique details our home has to offer. Touches of reclaimed wood accent many of the walls. The historic wooden doors make each room more cozy. The dining room has a custom shiny tin ceiling with beautiful light fixtures illuminating a stunning solid wood dining table that seats eight people; perfect for dinner parties. An exposed brick chimney is seen in the kitchen as well as the third bedroom for a modern twist on a rustic feel. There is a spacious front porch which is a great place to spend the afternoons on the gorgeous days Iowa brings. The living room is extremely comfortable with plush sofas and a reading nook.
We love dogs and are happy to host your friendly, house-trained pets! There is a $50 fee per dog. Dogs must have clean paws before entering the home and must be kept off ALL furniture. Hair and drool left behind should be at an absolute minimum. Thank you for understanding.
Our house is walking distance to the Ingersoll Avenue district which is rich with historic character, independent businesses, a vibrant dining scene and family-oriented offerings. There are bikes available for rent right on Ingersoll and MLK (just a few blocks from the house) which, in our opinion, is the best way to tour Des Moines! Most downtown streets have a designated bike lane and you can return the bikes to any of the rental locations around the Downtown Des Moines Area.
Head a bit further South and you will find the Des Moines Art Center. This is a wonderful place to see some incredible works of art and have a great lunch with impeccable scenery. Right behind the Des Moines Art Center is both Greenwood and Ashworth Parks. An area perfect for enjoying the great outdoors as well as an access point to one of Des Moines' many bike trails.
Bike or take a short drive over to the John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park which features artwork by 22 of the world's most celebrated artists. The pedestrian friendly 4.4 acre park is located in the heart of downtown Des Moines. There is plenty of green space to relax or walk around and enjoy the art.
A short 5 minute drive from the house will get you to the Court Avenue District. From baseball to Broadway, the Court District is also the heart of Des Moines’ downtown activity base. This area proudly hosts the Downtown Farmers' Market, one of the country's largest outdoor markets enticing throngs of weekend shoppers, street entertainers and musicians every Saturday morning 7AM-Noon from May through October. The Civic Center of Greater Des Moines serves as an outstanding performing arts center. Principal Park, one of the nation’s most breathtaking minor league ballparks and home to the Iowa Cubs (AAA affiliate of the Chicago Cubs) offers major league fun, and the new $62 million Science Center of Iowa and Blank IMAX Dome Theater engages and inspires visitors of all ages.
Just a bit further East you will find yourself in the Historic East Village. This is Des Moines’ most vibrant and diverse district, boasting many of the finest local shopping, dining, nightlife and commerce in Iowa. The East Village encompasses some of Iowa’s most significant buildings, including the State Capitol and numerous buildings on the National Register of Historic Places.
