Boeckenstedt's 1st stay in the mountains
Write up is very accurate, don't trust the GPS to get there, which Michael explained very well. Definitely need all wheel drive or 4 wheel drive. Really enjoyed the stay.

Beautiful view
Michael was very accessible and helpful with pre-stay guidance. Property is perfect for a couple or individual looking for a remote location. It is the lower level of a home that is occupied so not as private as expected, but if you are looking for a remote location to stay reasonably priced and hike the area, it is perfect!

A BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO ENJOY THE ROCKIES!
What a wonderful relaxing weekend! Cozy with gorgeous views. First night we had 9 deer feeding just feet away from deck and every morning a red fox would come through property. Michael was a great host. Just a great time!!

Mountain Property
It was adequate for a short stay. The deck did have a great view of the mountains although it faced east and the morning light made it a little uncomfortable to be out there. No deadbolts on the doors. It's a bit of a tough climb to get up to the property and I'm glad I had 4WD. The curtains on the patio doors were super thin and you'll be up as soon as the sun is. Nothing covering the window over the bed. I'm not sure why a125 dollar cleaning fee is required since the check out instructions require you to strip and change the beds, wash the linens, clean and replace everything in the kitchen, vacuum and wipe down the kitchen and bathrooms. The best things were abundant hot water and the owner is very nice.

LOVED IT!
We loved our stay. My husband and I were taking a three day trip to get away and see a show at Red Rocks. We were shocked and amazed by the views from the Writers Nest. Even though you have a lot of neighbors, it is still like you are on a mountain by yourself.

Lovely and serene, yet convenient location.
We loved The Writer's Nest. Though we were aware of other properties being close by on out drive up, The Nest was secluded and quiet and the neighboring properties were quickly forgotten. We were glad we had 4-wheel drive, even going in the summer, but getting in was no problem that way. Beautiful views, lots of hummingbirds and other feathered friends, and several mule deer came right up close to the deck. Clean, quiet, and cozy; a fantastic romantic getaway!

Great Property and Sky
This is a great property on the east side of the mountain - beautiful sunrises, moonrises and star views. Michael is a great host and we look forward to seeing him again soon. Everything is clean and well organized. We took Michael's advice on hiking Maxwell falls and had a great hike, just a short drive away. We liked the Willow Creek restaurant on the north side of the lake in Evergreen, but cooked most of our meals at the Writer's Nest.

Too remote. OK for an overnight or weekend but too small for longer. Fridge wouldn’t hold a half gallon jug. Really small kitchen area

Beautiful mountain home
We had a wonderful time at Michael's beautiful property. It was very well kept up with gorgeous views and everything we needed to make it "home" for almost a week. Michael was a gracious host and greeted us and answered any questons that we might have regarding the town and restaurants, etc. We did have a bit of a challenge getting our Honda Civic up there at night when it was more challenging to see and would recommend a 4 wheel drive vehicle or a van as the roads are unpaved as you ascend the mountain. If you want quiet, privacy and beauty with all of the amenties, this is your place!

Writer's Nest for a writer's retreat
I spent a week at the Writer's Nest this fall, fulfilling a long-term desire to spend a week alone in a lovely place working on my book. It met and exceeded my expectations. The quiet, the beauty of the decor and the view, the convenience and attention to detail were all capped off by Michael's warm and considerate style of hosting. Although I was alone, I felt safe and secure. And while I had all the privacy I wanted, I knew I could get help or answers to my questions at any time. It was a magical experience!

It is what it is
Michael is an excellent writer and the property was fine. I would advise anyone wanting to stay to read the description/contract completely. I have no problem with the steep grade or navigating at night as I am a seasoned outdoorsman. My wife and I are use to cleaning up after ourselves and that wasn’t a big issue. I would not say it was a romantic stay because there is a lack of privacy when he’s right above you and there were no curtains over the bedroom window and he has a deck right above it. This was my first experience with a VRBO and I’m not sure if I will ever want to do it again. Dealing with a hotel is so much easier and less expensive in the long run. Did it make or ruin our trip….. no. It is what it is.

Okay for the price
Quiet and remote. We knew that we wouldn’t be spending a lot of time at the unit was good for the price better than standard hotel room. Listing was a little vague made it seem like owner uses upper residence as office comes and goes but essentially he lives there. Example: we hiked a lot had rainy conditions and washed our shoes that had been rain soaked for next day. Put them in shared laundry area dyer to be dry for next day (late night, around 11:00) and rather than calling/texting us, the owner opened/turned off dryer twice. Kind of passive/aggressive…A little outdated lots of dust kind of like there may be few renters. Layout could be improved. Bed is right in front of sliding doors up against window with no blinds so you’re waking up with the sun around 6:15am. If bed was in larger living area and couch and kitchen table moved to the front, would provide a bit more twighlight if you are able to sleep in and early risers could enjoy coffee and sunrise in the sitting area(if moved to the front of unit). Read rental agreement thoroughly as typically, you would think that paying a cleaning fee would not require extensive cleaning prior to check out(including changing beds), especially if you have an early flight out. Many of the dishes, coffee pot, and amenity items listed that had to be requested after arrival needed to be washed before use. Crumbs in silverware drawer and toaster(didn’t use). Consider bringing your own pillow.

Writer's Nest
There is a house high on a mountain that has been converted to two apartments. The Writer's Nest is on the lower level. It is a small studio. The sliding glass door opens to a deck facing east. Great sunrises. Micheal is very insistent that vehicles have four wheel drive. Very good advice. The road changes from paved to a rocky path. It is, also, very steep. It is hard to find the place, but Micheal provided very intensive instructions. Don't try to find it for the first time at night. If that happens, be certain to carry a bright flashlight. On second thought, bring flashlights anyway. It is a peacefully place to stay and just relax. Or hike. Or drive and see the beauty of the mountains and lakes. Great food at the Bristol and Black Hat Cattle Company. Micheal is a really nice fellow. He made certain that the studio is well equipped. However, bring hand soap and shampoo. Don't know if it was not suppose to be there or we didn't find it. Oh, watch out for the black bears.

Not the best choice for us
The cabin is true to its description and the photographs are accurate. It is a cozy retreat with a great view (if you have clear weather). Prior to checking in here we spent several days in a cottage right in the town of Evergreen. We really enjoyed the charming "downtown" area and being able to walk to restaurants, shops and the beautiful lake. So, while at Writer's Nest we missed the proximity to these attractions. We were also hesitant to go out at night since we didn't want to navigate the steep ride up to the cabin in the dark. Over the years my husband and I have rented numerous cottages in the US and other countries, Often we've paid security deposits and/or cleaning fees. I was, however, unfamiliar with the term cleaning deposit. In fairness the website clearly states that this deposit is refunded if you leave the cabin as you found it. I thought this meant don't spill red wine on the carpet, don't break anything, etc. It wasn't until we arrived and my husband saw the chore list posted on the wall that we understood what was required to get our refund. We are respectful guests and always leave rentals tidy & in good shape -- but we don't clean bathroom fixtures, change bed linens, vacuum, run a load of laundry, etc. The chore list notes that you can forgo cleaning (and your refund) by letting them know in advance. After pondering this for a day or two (not something I want to think about while on vacation) we notified the owner and forfeited our deposit. We had an early flight out of Denver and I just didn't see myself getting up even earlier to scrub the bathtub. I accept responsibility for not requesting more information about the deposit before confirming our reservation. We rely on reviews to help us make travel choices. So, it is in the spirit of being helpful to other travelers that I am sharing our experience.

3 perfect nights in the forest
The Nest was such a great place to get away from city life. Everything was exactly what I was hoping for. Made dinners and breakfast in the kitchen, morning coffee on the bedside deck overlooking the mountains and sounds of the rushing stream below. Sunrises and pitch black starry sky’s at night, I looked up and right away saw a shooting stay straight above me. Michael was a great host and wonderful to chat with about our common interests. I highly recommend the Writers Nest, Thanks Brian & Micky
