A Wonderful Stay as Always
This is my 3rd time renting the castle and everything was just as expected. The hot tub was very clean and stayed at a nice hot temperature, there were plenty of clean towels and extra bedding, the grounds were beautiful and the castle itself was well organized and clean. I can’t wait to come back again next fall!

The Castle
Our stay was a lot of fun. The house has many interesting things to explore. Our children an grandchildren enjoyed the pool and hot tub daily. We had a couple of small issues at the beginning, but Brent the property manager was very responsive and made everything right for us.

Awsome and unique!
The pictures Don't do it justice. We all enjoyed looking at the antiques and taxidermyied animals. The grounds were well kept and private. The only the negative would be that the beds weren't very comfortable.

The best time!
We had the most fabulous stay at this hidden gem. Everything we could’ve wanted was provided and we spent the weekend cooking and lounging and swimming the pool. The whole experience was luxurious. It’s only about thirty minutes to lake Huron as well. We would definitely book again!

Never disappoints
This was my second time staying here and it was just as amazing as the first time. The castle is a true castle! It is very obviously well maintained and taken care of. The groundskeeper Brent was very helpful and accommodating. He even brought us a crockpot to use from his own house. The pool and the grounds are beautiful and well maintained. We loved how secluded it was. We were truly able to escape from it all and have a relaxing weekend. I will definitely be back!

Beautiful castle home -wonderful pool and land
It is a nice experience! The pool and hot tub are so beautiful and relaxing. But you have to pick one or the other to be heated for your day. The land is gorgeous and perfect for a relaxing time or event. Weddings would be so beautiful Brent was the kindest and nicest property manager. Great communication, so nice and just wonderful to work with . The owners are lucky to have him for their property. Can’t say enough good words about Brent. The castle house is nice. The kitchen is very open. Lots of space to cook. I feel that nobody mentioned in the reviews all the dead animals from a taxidermist around the house. Being a animal lover, it was hard to be comfortable around stuffed baby bears, and also dead raccoons when you get out of the shower. We just didn’t use certain rooms because of the animals. It would be more comfortable to reduce the dead animals in the house, especially the raccoons. The house is decorated in traditional castle like pieces. It is a overall beautiful property. It also felt a little haunted if you believe in that.

A fun vacation spot for family
My initial impression of the property was WOW! I mean, it's a castle. That's exciting! We enjoyed looking around the house at all of the different decorations and hidden gems. Every time you go into a room, you find something new and interesting to look at. We used the pool/patio space the most. Our kids swam from sunup to sundown. The firepit and fireplace were easy to use and were a nice gathering space in the evenings. The hot tub and pool are in need of some minor maintenance, but that didn't keep us from having fun. There was plenty of room for us to spread out during the day, and lots of places to sleep at night. There are PLENTY of extra pillows and blankets, as well as lots of towels for the pool. Several of the door handles were loose, and a couple kept falling off. The upstairs bedroom and the upstairs bathroom gave us the biggest issue, especially when my husband got stuck in the bathroom. I was sad to see that has been an issue in reviews from a year ago. I hope it is resolved soon, since that was honestly our biggest issue but it's an easy fix. The driveway to the home takes you through a corn field and a wooded area before arriving to the house, which makes you feel incredibly secluded. But you are only a few minutes from a grocery store, beach, or restaurant, so it's the best of both worlds in my opinion. Overall we had a great time and I would love to book this property again for a future family gathering.

Beautiful home with nice gathering places
My extended family with old and young adults, enjoyed this very unique home with amazing antiques and collectibles, cool taxidermy (that we named), and varied spaces for conversation, relaxation and fun. The pool area had plenty of room for all of us to eat a meal and enjoy the outdoor gardens, and the fire pit area had wonderful views and furniture. Plenty of bedrooms for all with a gorgeous master bathroom and attached bath. there is also a second bedroom on the first floor right next to the 2nd bathroom. Upstairs had a dorm-type room with 2 queens and 2 twins on one side and a smaller bedroom with a queen and twin. these two rooms were separated with a great game room with a pool table and huge chess board. The kitchen had everything we needed and was a great place to gather. While we enjoyed the house, we had time to wander the Thumb enjoying the lighthouses and small towns throughout this agricultural area. Appreciated the hosts timely responses and the great relaxing stay.

A True Castle
I rented this for my 30th birthday celebration with 12 friends and the castle was more than accommodating. There are 4 bedrooms. Upstairs has a giant bedroom with 2 queen and 2 single beds. The second upstairs bedroom has a queen bed with a day bed and trundle underneath, there is also a bonus pull out couch in the game room. Downstairs there are two more bedrooms with queen beds. The castle is an actual castle with all the furnishings and Knick knacks to go with it. It feels like you’re in the highlands of Scotland. Our most used area was the pool and hot tub area. Just make sure you communicate what times you would like the hot tub turned on before you arrive because it is operated remotely from the property managers phone. The hours were 9pm- midnight but the property manager had it on from 7pm -3am for us since we are night owls. There are plenty of towels and blankets and you can tell the place has been very well taken care of! We plan to book this again soon

Get Away and Relax!
I can tell you the photos don’t do justice to this property! The home itself is really spacious and large. Bedrooms on the main floor and on the second floor are very very large and well maintained. The gentleman minding the property was wonderful, he would stop by and tell us exactly when he would stop by, and exactly what he would do (start jacuzzi for example.). Constant and perfect communication between hosts and guests. Additionally, if you want privacy, you’ve got it. The home is situated with a forest around it, perfect for getting away. Plenty of room to spare and well worth it!

Great fun at the Castle
Our family of 13 enjoyed a 4 day stay at The Castle. The country setting and grounds were beautiful, the spacious home was charming and filled with a great deal of antiques and interesting decor, we cooked all our meals in the well-stocked kitchen, the indoor and outdoor furnishings were comfortable and having the pool and hot tub to ourselves was amazing!! We fed the horses, roasted marshmallows, played games, created art projects, and swam for hours. It was a wonderful reunion for our family. Bryce, the property manager, was very helpful and went above and beyond what we expected from him. The pool did develop a crack due to previous heavy rains and a pool repairman was found to patch the crack the next day. Our inconvenience was only one hour of not being able to swim. A couple of the bedroom door handles came off so be careful not to lock someone in! It is a problem that should be corrected. The cleaning crew was thorough and we did not notice any unclean or dusty areas as was reported in a previous review. We did notice a communication problem between the owner and Bryce and the staff. It didn’t alter our plans much but we wondered if the miscommunication happens often. We had a great time and encourage your family to experience the Castle!!

Hidden gem!
We stayed the weekend here for my sisters bachelorette party and it was AMAZING! the pictures do not do this place justice! We stayed in july and were worried about the heat, but the house was perfectly kept cool! The art and antiques kept us looking around constantly. The grounds looked straight out of "the secret garden" book. The pool was a hit and soooooo beautiful! I hope we get a chance to stay here again!

Great place!
We had a wonderful time at the castle. Was it perfect, no. If you are expecting perfect at every rental your expectations are unrealistic. I will say it was quite grand. The castle was huge. We had plenty of room to spread out and lots of room to gather together. The pool was a nice treat for the entire family. We spent a few days just enjoying the pool. The game room was lots of fun as well. We had a pool tournament one evening after winding down from a day at the pool. The kitchen was well equipped (minus a cork screw). The WiFi isn’t the best. I would recommend bringing a hot spot with you if you have any work that needs to be done while you are on vacation. We had a AT&T hot spot that worked very well. Our cell phones are Verizon and the best we could get was two bars of signal. There is a Walmart about 20 minutes away in Sandusky. Lake Huron was around 20 from the castle as well. We loved our stay and hated to have to leave. Can’t wait to rent it again next year! Thanks, John & Shellie

Wedding Venue Catastrophe
I rented this property for my wedding reception. Keep in mind, the price listed is not the price you will pay. They charge an extra amount and require a private, separate charge, to be done outside of VRBO app. From one bride to another: Pros: beautiful/lush gardens Clean property Comfortable beds Large kitchen Good photo places on property Bryce (groundskeeper) and his helper started to help pump water after they realized we were not cancelling our wedding. Cons: -The drainage system of the property is broken. So if you do not have a sunny day for your event, plan for your entire venue to be under water, as what happened to me. I would have probably never booked the property for a wedding, knowing it had drainage issues. A local person at the ice cream shop in town, mentioned that everyone knows “the castle” has flooding issues. -Plan for the home owner to go outside of the VRBO app/website for payments outside of original booking. -Do not expect to use the inside of the house in case of bad weather. You are not by any means, allowed to use the inside for guests. -Plan for extras such as needing to rent porta Johns for guests, as they are not permitted to use inside toilets. -Expect Bryce, the grounds keeper, to stick around for the entire event and threaten to shut it down if he doesn’t like what is going on with the event or people. -The drive way is about 900ft from the house so expect to add on the extra cost of a golf cart ($350) for your guests. Unfortunately, I was hounded on my wedding day for the payment of the golf cart (that was suppose to be paid with the added cost of the venue, apparently it was never added, but my calculations say otherwise), but the grounds keeper and owner failed to mention my entire wedding set up was drowning. They were only insistent about money and not the fact that my wedding is suppose to happen in 1 hour and under water. -Also, if people park in the drive way, there is apparently a time limit and Bryce will be quick to threaten your guests/vendors with towing vehicles. The explanation is they are fire hazards. Understood, except we had a local fireman on site who stated where certain vehicles were parked, was not a fire hazard but Bryce continued to make a scene. - hot tub heater is broken and is a “cold tub”.

Beautiful place, disappointed stay.
The castle is beautiful and many Interesting things to look at. We had family from Texas, Maryland and Michigan come to have a enjoyable visit. There were 13 of us and paid over $2000 dollars to stay from the 14th check in at 3 pm to the 17th check out was supposed to be 3pm but when we arrived we were told we had to leave by 11Am on the 17th because of a wedding they had planned. we planned a birthday party for Wednesday and while we were cooking on the gas stove it wouldn't turn off like it was leaking and the pilot light kept starting which was terrifying. Bryce did always come right away with any issues and is a great employee. Of course Wednesday when he came he told us there would be a company coming out to set up a big tent for the wedding, there went the privacy we rented the place for. They blocked the driveway And had people all outside my window. The breaker for upstairs kept popping making us have to call Bryce multiple times. We couldn't run the pool and hot tub at the same time and the pool was green we were also told the waterfall is only ran during weddings like my money wasn't worth the same luxurys. I think who ever is cleaning needs to check corners because there were dead bugs and cobwebs almost in every corner. The showers where horrible they had no water pressure. We felt like we lost some of our time to visit and be with family because of issues and loss of privacy we were there looking for. We definitely will never rent this property again and for the price we recommend everyone look else were you can get better than this place.

I expected better
I've been to this property in the past as a wedding vendor. I've always loved this place so I had no problem spending a little extra on something special. My disappointment started when we arrived to hot house. Like super warm even though the window ac units were running. We tried to make the best of it with a dip in the pool but that too was hot. Not only hot but dirty! Like the filter wasn't strong enough for that size pool. The hot tub was also super gross. Like a ton of dirt sitting on the seat and the bottom. We had to close all the curtains in the master suit just to lower the temp at all. The ac unit in that room is not enough at all. My husband was so miserable we ended up leaving the night before we were scheduled to leave. Additionally, the upkeep on this property is poor at best. We got locked out of 3 different rooms because the door knobs kept falling off. The shower in the master has two shower heads but only one has hot water and the other sprays out of the shower. We couldn't find extra household items such as toilet paper, paper towels, dishwasher tabs or trash bags. Items like tvs were horriblely outdated. That wouldn't have been an issue for me if there wasn't already so many other issues. I am really disappointed in our stay. The only saving grace was that my kids enjoyed themselves.

Gorgeous Grounds!
Overall, we (two families of four) were happy and had a wonderful time at the castle! The pool is PERFECT and the beautiful grounds/flowers/patio were just breathtaking. Amazing family fun! Just a couple things to note: 1. The tap is well water, so if that bothers you, bring bottled. 2. There is no central A/C, so if you're used to that, it might not be cool enough for you for sleeping. During our stay, only 1 of the 4 bedrooms had working A/C (there are portable/window units throughout the house). The listing needs to be updated-- I'm not sure why there aren't pictures of the interior of the house-- it's really cool! Tons of interesting antiques everywhere were fun conversation pieces. The kitchen was huge, well-stocked, and perfect for making big family dinners. Bryce was friendly and helpful. We loved being able to pet the horses (riding is not available). Thank you for having us!
