*Springtime Escape* Gulf Coast Condos on the Sand Dunes - 201

Summary:
Stunning, newly renovated condos nestled at the base of the sand dunes, offering the perfect blend of comfort and coastal charm. Enjoy a fully equipped kitchen and relax on the front, rear, and side decks, while your family explores the expansive dunes just steps away. Conveniently located near Pirate’s, the island’s top restaurant, and just a short drive to the best beaches on Dauphin Island. Book your stay and experience the island getaway you’ve been dreaming of!

The Space:
Enjoy your private balcony complete with patio furniture, perfect for relaxing outdoors. A stackable washer and dryer is conveniently located in a closet on the deck for easy access. Just half a mile away (about a 15-minute walk), you'll find Pirates Beach, a great restaurant, and a pool—everything you need for the perfect island getaway!

Guest Access:
You can take a scenic walk over the dunes to reach the water, though it's a bit far for carrying beach gear. The nearest public beach access is just 0.8 miles down the street for easy shoreline access. This unit is part of a four-plex building, offering a comfortable and convenient stay on the island!

The Neighborhood:
The 164-acre Audubon Bird Sanctuary is just down the road. The sanctuary is a well-known destination for birdwatchers in search of one of the hundreds of species that live in and migrate through the sanctuary year-round, such as herons and pelicans. Visitors can take a walking tour though the palmetto palms where they can experience the birds in the lush native flora and fauna of the island.

The Mobile Bay Ferry is located just a short drive away. The ferry, which departs every hour and a half during the day, transports passengers to the historic Fort Morgan located in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

Just past the ferry is a popular boat launch on the island, where anglers launch their boats sunrise to sundown. Boat trailer parking for the boat launch can be tricky, especially during summer months, so Alvarado’s close proximity to the launch makes it an ideal location for anglers because of the extended boat parking offered to guests. Each unit can accommodate one boat trailer in addition to their parking.

The Dauphin Island Estuarium, an aquarium that is home to more than 100 different species of native Alabama marine life, and the historic Fort Gaines, where you can find guided tours of the 1821 fort that protected Mobile Bay during the Civil War, are both located within one mile of the property as well. There are three public beaches on Dauphin Island — the East End Public Beach, Bienville Beach and the West End Public Beach.

With the almost dozen restaurants and snack bars on the island, there’s no shortage of local fare and fresh seafood. Almost every menu on the island serves up the freshest seafood in the South, including freshly caught snapper, grouper, oysters and crab. During the summer there are outdoor movies shown on the West End of the island, and the Dauphin Island Fishing Rodeo during July brings more than 75,000 spectators to the island for a weekend of fun and sports fishing.

Even though the island is small (it’s only 14 miles long and less than 2 miles wide or less, in some areas), it offers an endless amount of activities for vacationers, including an 18-hole golf course and endless water activities. Boat, jet ski, stand-up-paddleboard and kayak rentals are available, as well as sunset cruises and beach access to most of the 17 miles of powder, white sand beaches that wrap around the island. These offerings, in addition to deep-sea fishing and diving, make this Gulf Coast sanctuary one of the top destinations for those looking to escape the crowds and enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the Gulf.

We hope you enjoy your stay and enjoy exploring the beautiful Alabama Gulf Coast during your visit!

Getting Around:
Because of the ideal location of this property, guests can take a quick drive or easily bike or walk to nearby attractions and restaurants. Although there is no public transportation, there are miles of walking and biking trails around the island that makes getting around a breeze. Bikes and golf carts are available to rent on the island! The Dauphin Island website is a great resources to stay up to date with events on Dauphin Island.

Other Things to Note:
This upstairs unit is part of a four-unit house and features a covered back deck with privacy walls for added comfort and seclusion. Pet-friendly with a $75 fee per dog, per stay (75lb max). Sorry, no cats! Dogs who are categorized as "dangerous" or "aggressive" according the ASPCA are not allowed. Please let us know if you're bringing more than one furry friend so we can add the appropriate pet fee, as the Airbnb website does not have a spot for us to add the fee for a second dog . The fee will be added to the cost of your nightly charge. Guests must keep dogs on a leash when outdoors, and clean up after their dogs. Guests who bring a dog without notification could face penalty.

Great place for kids and dogs
The property was in a great location, close to everything. The unit was spacious and clean. The back balcony looked out over a sand dune - great place to drink coffee and watch the sun rise! The yard was well-kept and perfect for taking our dogs out. Everyone loved it!

Quiet Getaway
If you are looking for a slower pace and don’t mind bringing your own food for meals, this location would be suitable. In the evenings, we were hoping to enjoy some television viewing in the LR, but the remote could not be located and there were no power controls on the set. Management team was not helpful and actually rather condescending with our contact.

Simple Beach Stay
What you see is what you get. Half mile walk to public beach access and restaurants. Apartment is clean and simple. Exactly what you need for a beach trip. We would absolutely stay again. Walls/floor seemed abnormally thin as we could easily hear/feel the children in the apartment below. Not a detriment to our stay but absolutely a noticeable factor that we read about in other reviews and found during our own stay.

Disappointing in many ways
There were a lot of issues with this property and the host didn’t seem too concerned about fixing them. Also, this property does not have beach access. It doesn’t say it does - but I think many people will assume the dune behind the house leads to a beach. It leads to a large nature preserve with no beach access on the other end. You will need to drive to get to a beach. This property allows pets. All the bedding was covered with massive amounts of white dog hair. I reported it to the owner. No resolution other than a thanks for letting us know. We found one clean pillowcase in the closet and covered the rest of the pillows with our t-shirts. Get there early so you can wash all the sheets before you go to bed. Sadly we got in too late for that. This property had a TV but no remote. I reported it to the owner, and they responded “oh yes it just keeps walking away!” The right response would be to bring a new remote (the next day would have been fine). Nothing stays open after 8 on the island and without a remote you can’t even cast your phone to the TV in the living area. In the bathroom, there was one stick-on hook for your towel in front of the spot where clearly a towel rack had been ripped out of the wall. We let the host know. There is also no toilet paper holder. The roll sits wherever on the very limited counter space. The toaster was broken. We let the host know on our way out of town a day early because it was not worth staying any longer.

Relaxing and Comfortable
The place was clean and cozy. We were comfortable staying inside on the rainy days of our visit. All of the amenities were great…grill, wifi, washer/dryer, and being able to have our dogs. The only downfall is that it’s not beach front and you cannot walk to the beach comfortably. The 1 minute walk to the beach is across the dunes, and I do not recommend it.However, the location Is great on the island, and we had no problem driving to the beach for the day.

Well equipped and comfortable.
Photos and description accurately portray this pleasant condo. The kitchen is very well stocked with everything needed. The king mattress is very firm and supportive. We enjoyed the nice patio seating area although the mosquitoes are large and vicious, bring spray. Overall very pleased and would stay again.

Great vacation rental
Great condo, very clean and modern. Kitchen had plenty of cookware to prepare meals, including a large pot and crock pot. Furniture was tasteful and comfortable. My daughter especially loved the bunk beds. The island is small and most restaurants close early or run out of menu items so highly recommend bringing some groceries and plan to make a meal or two during your stay. We had dogs, which we took to the public beach and they had fun. We also hung out at the little beach at Pelican cove, next to the Pirate Grill restaurant, which was great for kids and our dogs since the water here is very calm (dogs aren’t allowed at the restaurant, just the beach portion). If we visits this area again, would definitely rent again! Thank you!

We had so much fun I have kids of all ages and they enjoyed laying out and playing on the dunes. We went fishing in the bay and walked all the way to pelican island 2.5 miles each way but worth it!!! The only thing I would change was the bathtub water doesn’t get very warm. I like hot baths and I suffered through Warm baths all week. Other than that it is amazing and worth the money. We will be visiting again in the future!

Anniversary Get-Away
Our 25th anniversary trip was cancelled due to Covid. For our 27th, it was a surprise to find a rental with such a great location and pet friendly too.! Our two dogs enjoyed the beaches as much as we did. Being able to have them with us made this vacation possible. Pirates restaurant just down the street was an added bonus. The sunsets and food were both incredible. One negative were the electrical outlets that did not work, requiring us to move the coffee maker to another counter. Really this was no big deal and we told the property manager we didn’t need them fixed before we checked out. Despite our conversations with the property manager, for some reason maintenance showed up unannounced to change lightbulbs we hadn’t even noticed. They were unaware of the electrical outlets (FYI neither the GFI’s or breakers were tripped.) Again, this wouldn’t have been an issue if we hadn’t been walking out the door to enjoy the island. Another negative was the heavy traffic on the residential road. Despite the negatives, we look forward to returning next winter for another Quiet Get-AWay.
