Great secluded cabin
The property is beautiful and peaceful! Deer visited daily. Quiet; and stars are amazing when the sky is clear. Comfy cabin. Responsive owners when power went out. Would stay again.

Peaceful Serenity
Beautiful serene place to reconnect with family and nature! We loved the amenities and remoteness of the Big Horn Lodge! Room for all of us to be together as well as have privacy. We braved some of the local ATV and hiking trails around Custer. Loved the fire pit and patio areas to congregate. We thoroughly enjoyed our week here-was a wonderful escape to focus on fun, food, faith, and family!

Custer State Park Area
This property was exactly as the pictures and description said it would be and even better! Secluded, peaceful and beautiful! Our weather was perfect as well! We hiked, biked, explored, played games and just had a great time on this family vacation. We cooked at home and could eat out on the deck or patio to enjoy the outdoors even more. I thank the owners for sharing their place with their guests and hope to return in the future!

Super secluded and close to nature
Wonderful property. The thoughtful owners provided odds and ends and marketing wasn’t too far away. Lots of deer and beautiful skies. Two floors with full bathrooms on each floor and a very workable kitchen. Lots of seating inside and outside. Beautiful rock gardens and scenery. Two families worked well within the space. We thoroughly loved it.

Amazingly beautiful!
This home is so peaceful and relaxing. It is away from neighbors yet a 10 minute drive to Custer. It is also conveniently located for visiting Crazy Horse and Mount Rushmore. The owners are extremely helpful and nice and their home is beautiful. It is well stocked with towels, pillows, etc. and everything in it is high quality and nicely decorated. I would highly recommend this property. We had a wonderful visit there and only wished we had stayed longer.

Wonderful place to stay!
The house was so comfortable. It had everything we needed. The Custer park fence was visible from the deck & we saw a large Elk one afternoon. We enjoyed watching other wildlife in the yard daily, deer, turkey, rabbits, & chipmunks. The location allowed us to do day trips including Mt Rushmore, Devils tower, Deadwood, Walls Drug, Sturgis, the Badlands, & Custer park. Hill City has great places to dine & is just minutes away. We highly recommend this home. The owners are great!!

Great Property right in the heart of Custer State Park
We had a fantastic stay. No negatives about this property. The things we liked were: It was close enough to Custer that running to town for food was quick. It had a great fire pit. It was adjacent to trails in Custer State Park. We loved the artwork throughout the house. It had great cellphone reception. It had a wraparound deck that was perfect for taking in the view. Tons of wildlife right out our front door. It will be our new Black Hills getaway.

Wonderful home in beautiful setting
I can’t say enough good things about this home. First, the basics, it is clean, well equipped and comfortable. We cooked quite a bit during our visit and the kitchen had all we needed. The master bed was great (only one used) and bathrooms very nice. Now for the reason you really want this one; the property sits in its own private valley. We saw deer on a daily basis, as well as a marmot that lives on the property. All you see from the deck and windows is natural beauty all around. This truly is a great place to get away from it all!

This house was exactly what I was looking for! No neighbors and peace and quiet. Sat on the porch every evening and watched deer come out of the high country and cross to the evening feeding areas. Scott was a pleasure to work with as my plans unexpectedly had changed. Can't wait to visit this true paradise ! Thank you for some unforgettable memories! Tim

Loved coming back to this home every night
We just returned from a vacation to South Dakota and a week in this lovely home. We were so glad we had decided to choose this home as it was perfectly located in a beautiful setting, not more than 30 minutes from many, many Black Hills sites. The owners provided detailed information on how to access the trails through Custer State Park which surround the property. Hiking through the meadow and woods was the highlight of the trip for us. While we were there, Custer received 9.5 inches of snow and, though unexpected, we enjoyed the quiet beauty, and watching deer leave the only footprints. This home is just as described, and I would highly recommend it.

First time to the Black HIlls
This was our first trip to the Black Hills and the entire area exceeded our expectations. This house was fabulous and we enjoyed every minute we were there. A lovely secluded spot that made us feel like we were a million miles away - yet were in close proximity to everything we wanted to do. The home is furnished perfectly for the Black Hills with comfortable beds and furniture - all that was needed after full days of sightseeing. We enjoyed playing games after dinner and watching movies as a family. Every morning we set out exploring from the property and seeing all the deer in the yard. Marletta and Rog were perfect hosts and called to check on us to ensure we had everythign we needed. We can't wait to go back and will definitely stay right here again!

Fantastic home and location!!
What a wonderful everything!!! The home was great and the location was fabulous! We were close to everything we wanted to see and do. Lots of hiking and sightseeing. We were close to town for great restaurants and grocery. The home was very nicely laid out and it was so peaceful, quiet and private. The home had everything we needed, and was exceptionally clean. In addition, there was no one on any side of you to disturb you, and we watched deer and other animals from outside the window. The owners were wonderful, providing us with everything we needed, and were very responsive to questions and providing suggestions. They were so nice and helpful, and checked in on us to make sure everything was perfect, which it was. I would love to come back here every year - it was truly a great experience.

Paradise
Our family opted to skip our usual lake vacation this year and try something new. Our experience with this rental was beyond perfect from the first contact thru the final day of our stay. I can honestly say that in my nearly 50 years of existence I have never experienced relaxation to this degree. The owners are absolutely wonderful to deal with and offer so much information and assistance. The home is beyond comfortable and equipped with everything you could ever need. This is not your typical generic cold vacation rental but a true home that is full of the warmth and personal touches that provide for the ultimate relaxing experience. Thank you so much for a fantastic stay. Rodney, Tuesday, Seth, and Lacey

Beautiful area and nice cabin
We absolutely loved South Dakota and The Black Hills. So much to do! The cabin was nice with lots of room for the 6 of us and 2 TV areas. The kitchen was fully stocked. Plenty of towels for the bathrooms. Loved opening the windows and enjoying the breeze in the afternoons. Only cons-it was pretty warm and without a/c, it got extremely warm on some evenings, especially upstairs even with the ceiling fan and 2 fans on. Downstairs could for sure use ceiling fans in all rooms. We actually went and bought 2 more fans. The downstairs TV needs to be fixed or replaced-color is messed up. Bathrooms are very dark and shower heads were too low. Bathtubs and fixtures could be updated. Otherwise, we loved it and the area! Very private and quiet.

TXAGs
Thank you Marletta and Roger for opening your home to our families from TX and TN for a wonderful, memorable week. We have been renting from VRBO properties for years but have never had a property that so completely lived up to it's description and photos as yours did. From the high thread count sheets and comfy beds to the well stocked kitchen, you left so much at our disposal to enjoy ourselves. And there is so much to enjoy!! We had never been to South Dakota before and we were all touched and awed by the history, natural beauty, and wildlife in the area. You never had to go very far to discover wildlife....we saw animals practically every time we drove to your secluded but convenient property. And it is so convenient to everything.....Mt Rushmore, Custer State Park, Crazy Horse, the Badlands. We never had to roam far to find something new and we always had your cozy, comfortable home to come back to. We all find ourselves wishing we were still there. Thank you for such a lasting, remarkable memory of the Black Hills!

Superior Vacation Rental
This was the most beautiful house that we have rented and we've rented several. It was spotlessly clean! So many extra special details from wonderful Kleenex and toilet paper to throws on the furniture when we were chilled in the evening! The kitchen was stocked well cooking utensils and spices. Expectations like check out directions, etc. were clearly visible when we arrived. The only thing that we didn't know prior to arrival was that 3 of the 4 bedrooms were located on the first level and the main living area and kitchen were on the second level. We had three people with us who had health issues that made it difficult climbing the stairs. However, a small kitchen area to make coffee in the morning was on the first level. The home is so private and sets back from the main road 1/4 mile. We saw deer every day. Firewood was even provided and we enjoyed a night around the fire. And we were located centrally located to all of the Black Hill attractions. We can't say enough good about this rental. Marletta & Roger made the whole experience so easy from start to finish. Thanks so much.

Exceeds all expectations
Wow- what can I say about Big Horn Lodge? This was our first family trip (that included our now adult children) since 2015. I could not have asked for a more amazing and perfect place for our family. As incredible as the pictures are, it’s even more impressive in person. The house is beautiful, spotless, and had everything we could have possibly needed. The owners were so responsive and helpful when we had a question. The location… wow- the location. It’s so serene and private. Sitting on the deck, drinking coffee and listening to the pronghorns was surreal. This was our first trip out west so I wanted a central location so we could do day trips to many locations. This was perfect! We went to Devils Tower, Mt. Rushmore, Needles Hwy, Spearfish Canyon, Badlands, Wall Drug and so much more. My husband and son fished Stockade Lake and me and my daughter visited Reptile Gardens. We loved the Wildlife Loop and did it several times since it was so close. Being at Custer State Park made the exploring easy and convenient. I realize this is quite a long review, but I want others to know how perfect this property is. We stay at many mountain cabins and this was by far the nicest. With our children getting older, this time together was priceless. I’m so thankful for the memories all brought about by Big Horn Lodge.

Delightful stay (that now offers wifi = happy children)
My husband, three children and myself all found the home and location to be wonderful. When vacationing at parks I always try to find accommodations away from the hustle and bustle of other people and this certainly exceeded my expectations! The home also now offers wifi which was the first note inside my oldest noticed (wifi a glowing beacon of a word for teens!) While my kids were happy(Happy Kids Happy Me!) getting through game levels my husband and I were😊 happy😊 sitting outside listening to the wind in the trees, birds chirping, bees buzzing and absolutely no man made sounds! Most mornings at this property we had four frolicking deer to watch. It was wonderful to watch them play. After reveling in nature sounds and sights we all went on hikes right from the property. Going places around Custer and The Black Hills was not bad either because this property is central to most attractions. The main road was in very good condition when we were there, however the road the house is on before the actual property road was very rutted. This property also has garage space for your vehicle which we utilized and appreciated. We shopped for groceries in Rapid City and put the cold food in coolers as the trip to this property took 50 minutes. We were glad we did as the stores in Rapid City have a much better selection compared to the grocery in Custer. There are countless studies that say taking a walk in nature is good for your health. This property, Big Horn Lodge, is a great place for your therapy to begin!

Fantastic lodge accommodations
Our family of five visited the week after memorial day this year and our two young children were ecstatic when we finally arrived at the dramatic entrance gates!! The property is pretty much exactly what it appears from the pictures in the listings call Lynn clean with meticulous Decour, my favorite being a massive bison portrait on the stairs. Each bedroom has a theme and our kids were so excited that they did FaceTime with grandparents to show them around the house. The wraparound deck Has to be one of the best attributes in my opinion, plenty of outdoor seating, and the stars at night were breathtaking. Very cool fire pit area as well, which turned out to be one of the highlights for my son, sadly we could only squeeze in one bonfire night, that being the last night but it was memorable. My kids enjoyed riding bikes and exploring the property, the one disappointment I had was the ability to hike in and out of Custer State Park from the property-I was led to believe you could hike to Mount Coolidge from the property, but it’s actually all fenced off, unless I missed something as far as boundaries go. But outside of that, the property is stunning, didn’t see any wildlife on the property but it’s probably the most serene setting you can imagine, with all the privacy one would need! I will say, although I was seeking privacy and seclusion, it did turn out to be a little bit further away from the main attractions then what I was hoping for-we attempted to ride bikes to the Mickelson Trail extension and that was very difficult for our six year old, as it’s a gravel road with some uphill grade. But if you’re driving, it’s about 12 minutes to get to the main highway and it is only 15 minutes or so from downtown Custer which turned out to be a great little town. In summary, just a fantastic VRBO property, very well-maintained, very unique and had plenty of amenities like resources for Black Hills, etc.
