Peaceful Mountain Retreat Home-Beautiful Views, Steam Shower

This tranquil 3BD/2BA home is nestled in the trees on several acres in the Sangre de Cristo mountains at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac that backs to a large open greenbelt. The magnificent views stretch from the forest to towering mountain peaks and out to the wide open San Luis Valley.

Our 2 story home has 2 bedrooms upstairs (1 with queen, 1 with 2 twin beds), and 1 bedroom downstairs (queen). There are 2 bathrooms (one on each level) and the upstairs bath has a steam shower. It is a peaceful, beautiful home, nicely decorated, with an open floor plan and many outdoor areas to enjoy.

Sip your morning coffee on the downstairs patio watching deer wander through your backyard. In the evening, enjoy a glass of wine from the covered balcony, watching the sun set over the valley and the San Juan mountains. At night step out on the upstairs deck and have your breath taken away as you gaze at an infinity of stars above the mountain peaks. Later, take a steam shower and relax in front of the fire after cooking dinner in the open-floor plan gourmet kitchen.

Our home has everything you need to provide a relaxing, rejuvenating retreat, or to simply be your comfortable base camp from which to venture into the great outdoors.

Beautiful views and that steam shower!
We loved our stay! The house has a great layout with lots of outdoor seating options which we took full advantage watching the incredible sunset/sunrise, and the stars! And the steam shower - fantastic! This is such a lovely area and really enjoyed exploring Crestone and the surrounding areas.

Lovely girls weekend
This house was perfect for a girls weekend away; plenty of space, with several bedrooms and sitting areas. Stunning views from the multiple decks/patios on the property. Very nicely appointed kitchen and everything was super clean!

Crestone retreat
The pictures don’t capture how nice the place is! With multiple first and second floor decks you have beautiful vista views throughout the day. House was clean and well stocked with essentials and Michelle, the owner, was very helpful with things. After I left when to Aspen for the night and wished I hadn’t left the Crestone house with its Million dollar views . Would definitely stay there again!

Relax with a view
We wanted to getaway and relax, which we did in a fabulous home. About an hour from the Great Sand Dunes, you can get an early start and beat the crowds. Great sun sets and moon rise. The skies are dark which makes for fun astrophotography. We'll be back

Amazing views from every deck. Well equipped home/
Three generations enjoyed the breath taking views and amazing out door space. Michelle provided valuable pre trip information regarding her home and the surrounding area. She even followed up to ensure we had arrived safely and had everything we needed. Her home provided a great location for exploring the Sand Dunes National Park and other local attractions. We fell in love with Crestone. Thank you for providing the perfect home for our family.

We arrived late on 3/8, but directions provided by Owner were spot on. The place is beautiful with amazing views and we especially liked the floor heating system. Very comfortable. Well stocked kitchen. We did not get to s ee much of Crestone due to the snow (5 inches). Did get to see the snow covered sand dunes about 30 minutes away... Awesome!

Our home away from home
My husband and I married each other in this precious home five years ago. How heart- warming it was to be back. Our favorite spot is the balcony you see in the photo. We love watching the sun sets from this balcony. It is truly one of our favorite spots in the world. The beauty is breathtaking! We also adore the kitchen. So beautiful and well stocked with all of our favorite things. And then of course I have to mention the glorious steam shower/bath... aaaahhhhh... My husband and I are exploring building one in our home here in Boulder!

Incredible owner/host... and absolutely fantastic property!!!
Michelle was/is an amazing host. Her property incorporates incredible spacing, movement, light, and 360 degree views into the surrounding Sangre de Cristo, San Luis Valley, and San Juan Mountain landscapes. The kitchen is top shelf... amazing appliances and cookware for all of your in house meals. Incredibly secluded and private, yet a 5 minute drive from town. Straight up... this is a special property and a special town and special part of Colorado. You will be hihjly rewarded for visiting, on multiple levels. Thank you, Michelle! A/S

Beautiful Nights in Crestone
This house is located in a small, quiet community of Crestone. My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights during our honeymoon. (We traveled around Colorado for our honeymoon and rented 3 different houses; this one was our favorite!) We were pleased with how clean and cozy this rental was. The house has gorgeous views from both the front and back porches which are great for sunsets over the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. It has a large, high-quality kitchen with everything you need to cook a complete meal. The living area has large glass windows so you feel as if you are outdoors. The master bedroom is a good size with an awesome porch and bathroom/ tub. We enjoyed this house so much that we are planning to return at the end of the year.

Sweet spot of heaven
My husband and I just spent five glorious days in this stunning home. This was our third time renting this property and we can’t imagine staying any where else in Crestone. We especially love the balconies. The house sits on top of a small hill and the views of the valley and the sunsets or thunderstorms are spectacular. Last night we stretched out on the back balcony and enjoyed an awesome meteor shower. The kitchen is another one of our favorite features. We love to cook and had a field day doing just that in this spacious and superbly equipped kitchen. The peace, beauty and sacredness of this home is a perfect match for this sweet spot called Crestone. We can’t wait to return. We celebrated our sixth anniversary in this house where we married each other six years ago!

A great, quiet and beautiful place for our family for a long weekend
This place is lovely! Wonderfully laid out for myself and husband and 2 young adult children. We spent needed time just gazing at the horizon to the east one evening from the upper porch, sitting outside the main floor reading and talking in the quiet and peacefulness of this setting. The kitchen was frankly better than the one we have at home, stocked with all that we needed to make meals. It is a ways from restaurants and grocery stores, and we enjoyed cooking there knowing this. The living room was comfortable and spacious for lounging. The bedrooms are well appointed, extra clean and neat and we felt very comfortable. We went one day to the Sand Dunes, an hour away and enjoyed the long vistas on the the drive there and back just as much as the Dunes! The host, Michelle, was very communicative, helpful and responsive. We have no reservations going back. One of the best VRBO's we've ever been in!

Hour drive to Great Sand Dunes
The purpose of choosing this house was specifically to visit and hike at Great Sand Dunes National Park and in the Sangre de Cristo mountains. Anyone reading this review with that in mind should know that the house is about 45-60 minutes drive to those destinations. The town of Crestone is limited in options for eating or shopping. That said, the house is VERY nice. The kitchen is well stocked and the house has a nice layout. There are several outdoor balconies and seating areas to enjoy the spectacular vistas and the house sits on the edge of the mountains. The beds are comfortable. The house does not have air conditioning but by opening all the windows, the house temperature is very comfortable in the summer. I would recommend this property for visiting this area.

Incredible House, Peaceful & Beautiful, Night Sky
My family of six was blown away by the beauty and location of this house. It has so many outside areas, I wish we could have spent a whole day just reading and relaxing in this house. Our last night there, around 2am, we all woke up and saw the Milky Way in the night sky. Pros: 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, beautiful kitchen, dishwasher, washer dryer, 2 decks upstairs, one enclosed, one open to the sky and leading to a ladder to the top of the roof for sky gazing. Peaceful, remote, private, special. An hour to the Great Sand Dunes. On a mountainside. We ate every night at the local brewery 5 minutes away in the town of Crestone. Minor inconvenience: Bumpy driveway, warm upstairs at night in bedrooms, need fan in the bedroom with 2 beds. We all six would love to stay here again! Amazing!

Peace...Peace...Peace
My husband and I married each other in this glorious home 11 years ago! We come back annually to celebrate our anniversary. Michelle is the kindest and most attentive host in the world. The interior design of the home is soothing and stunning. This year we especially appreciated the new kitchen appliances as well as the new decking, luxurious counter stools and the enhanced outdoor area. It shows the care that is put into this heart-warming home. Our favorite spot in the home are the upstairs balconies. We enjoy the breath-taking sunsets from one of them and lie out and watch the stars from the other. If you want a truly relaxing and nourishing getaway this is your spot. The kitchen is amazing to cook in with a great gas stove and all the appliances and cookware you could ever need. You are caressed by the glorious Sangre De Cristo Mountains. You are so close to them that you feel like you can reach out and touch them! We are always sad to leave and take comfort in knowing we will be back the next year!

Remote Vacation - Worth the Drive from Boulder!
This property offers a completely different type of vacation - as it sits in a very remote area. The drive from the Boulder area was absolutely beautiful - the fall colors were close to peak - so many of the mountains had layers of color from the aspens. We were most interested in hiking and found a few trails close to the house that were amazing. This area is not as heavily visited as some of the other more popular trails - so we were thrilled with our experience of hiking to Crestone Lake. The house is very well laid out with 3 outside seating areas - they all got used! The kitchen is well stocked if you want to do your own cooking - we shopped in Salida - which was the closest grocery store other than Alamosa. The Great Dunes National Park is visible from the road as we drove toward Crestone - It is about an hour from the house we stayed at - so we did take a day to travel out to the Dunes. Definitely worth the drive to see the dunes up close and there is a 4 hour hike at Mosca Trail that is less than a mile from the park. I would definitely recommend this property to people looking for a remote vacation and/or great hiking.

Colorado weekend family vacation
The house was overall very nice. Our family had lots of activities planned so the house was mainly our base camp. We did cook two of our meals in the great kitchen. The location is great as long as you are not spending all of your time in Crestone. I guess for a couple the location would be great but for a family with kids it was a little limited for them. We did have a great dinner at the Crestone Brewing Co and then delicious ice cream at the Crestone Creamery!! The inside of the house is great and the steam shower was an awesome addition after all of the hiking we did. Our only suggestion would be to update the outdoor furniture as it was not very comfortable and it kept us from spending more time on the balcony patio. Also there were quite a few mosquitos but I think that was just our bad timing! It makes sense to not have A/C but having a few fans available would be great. One of the days when we came back earlier it was still very hot out and no air movement even with the windows open. Overall this is a great house with very impressive mountain views and we really enjoyed our first visit to Colorado! We will be back!

Some unexpected issues
This property looked so perfect online that I paid for the extra insurance in case I accidentally broke something. I would stay here again but would want to know certain things were correct. 1. There is a mouse problem with mouse droppings all over the kitchen counter and my bedspread; this is not unusual for rural properties in the fall. 2. At least half of the pots and pans were quite dirty; we washed them all. 3. The dishwasher is not secure so that when you open the door the racks come flying out; not a big deal but be careful. 4. The decks have beautiful views but the decking is disintegrating; I think this is supposed to be repaired in the fall of 2022. 5. Perhaps the thing we disliked the most were the blinds that would not stay up in the living room. The view out the windows was important to us. 6. This may not seem like a big deal but we stayed for a week and cooked all meals at home; the cooking knives were impossibly dull and there was no knife sharpener. The location and views were amazing, the upstairs master bedroom and bath were beautiful, the downstairs queen bedroom was pretty cramped. The kitchen was nicely laid out. This property needs a mid-season tune up and the housekeeper needs to check the pots and pans and the icemaker. I come to Crestone for a week every year around August or September and this is would be a very very nice house if these issues are delt with.
