If we could buy it, we would.. in a heartbeat!
Our second trip to the cabin was just as enjoyable as the first. Our dogs, as usual, loved the freedom they don't get in the city. We roasted smores on the fire, watched the meteor shower, hiked down to the creekbed, and just enjoyed getting away from all the noise of city life. Sad to see the for sale sign out front-- hope the new owners continue to share it with the world! A totally special place...

Most unique secluded close to nature Loved it!!!
Spectacular views!!! We love, very private, secluded, back to nature all around you. This is a very unusual Cabin, huge French Doors/windows open feel like you are outside. The fantastic rock work frames the views so you feel as if you are in Tuscany, Italy. Lots of passion and hard work went into this gem of a Vacation Cabin. Has everything you need we cooked out and also enjoyed the fire pit each evening. After dark the awesome view of the lights from Comfort below was such a treat. Thank you for sharing you home, it was just a great getaway and perfect for us.

Extreme Value and Wonderful Getaway
Took my boyfriend and my dog here for the weekend and we all loved it. Dog had a blast being a dog and getting some real freedom to roam for hours. Place is very private and well-kept. You have everything you could possibly need and you get to see what it is like to live off the grid. Very inspiring place to stay for those who truly love the outdoors, peace and quiet and green country living. The owner did a great job on the place. It was better than what we were hoping for. The pictures don't do it justice.

Peaceful and beautiful view
We wanted a romantic get away for our 34th anniversary. It is a bit of a drive to get to the cabin but worth the drive. The cabin is lovely. The view from the patio is gorgeous. The bed was very comfortable. The kitchen area is nice. We really enjoyed sitting outside each day, watching birds come to the bird feeder and enjoyed the view. The only thing I might wish for is curtains. While it was nice to wake up to the awesome view I was a bit uncomfortable with bare windows but that will not keep us from staying there again. We love the Comfort area. Rick's Comfort Cabin was the icing on the cake! We will be back!

Wonderful place to get a away and relax
I spent hours & hours of research to find the 'right' place for my husband and I to stay while visiting the Texas Hill Country. Rick's Comfort Cabin did not disappoint in any way! What an experience driving up the hill to get to the cabin! The moment we opened the gate and drove in we fell in love with the 'concept' of the property. It is evident that this property has been a labor of love for Rick and his wife. The grounds and cabin are meticulously kept. Rick is environmentally conscious and generous and easy to deal with, the view is terrific, and the seclusion unbeatable. The second "bedroom" is a loft that's a little difficult to access but I don't know why you would need or want a second bedroom because the place is perfect for two and you wouldn't want anybody else with you. This is definitely a place we would recommend and would come back to.

Exceeded expectations
We stay in vacation rentals exclusively and often in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. I must say that from beginning to end staying at Rick's Comfort Cabin was easy and enjoyable. Rick was very attentive and proactive with his communication. The property is so well thought out. The Dog-Run style house, which is very historical here in the south, was such a novel idea and even though it may seem strange it is very functional and it was so well laid out. The View is the star here but the amenities were great. We loved using the wood stove at night, as we were there during one of the coldest ice storm periods in recent memory. We were cozy and comfy. Wifi works great, bathroom is nice with general supplies of shampoo/conditioner etc. Firepit outside was wonderful. Plenty of wood was available and most of all we were able to bring our dog Sadie with us. She romped and ran all over and loved the nature trail down into the canyon below the house. The garden had some nice winter vegetables as well. The house is just down the road from a vineyard and only 20 minutes to Kerrville and other areas of interest. We will definitely be back.

Stars at Night
The Comfort Cabin is a thoughtfully designed hideaway where you can enjoy privacy, great views, and wonderful night skies. The cabin is unusual in that it is built in the "dog-trot" style, with a breezeway separating the bedroom and the large well-furnished kitchen. A loft with a queen sized bed sits over the breezeway, so the two sides are connected. The loft is accessible by ladder only; the cabin would sleep four agile adults or two adults and two teenagers. Be prepared to drive about 8 miles from the highway to get to the cabin on a winding hilly road, half of which is unpaved but relatively smooth. The drive is scenic, with a winery along the way, but it is not a quick drive. We recommend staying here if you enjoy being in a somewhat secluded space designed for enjoying the outdoors on lovely stone porches part of the time. Improvements we would like are better lighting throughout the house and a small stand or shelf in the bathroom for personal items. Do not expect shops in Comfort to be open after 5 pm, and almost all restaurants are closed on Sun.evening and Monday. You can drive to Kerrville for dinner, less than 20 miles away.

Beautiful views, cabin and land in hill country
First, I want to start off by saying I love the Texas hill country. I get out there as often as possible on the weekends and have rented many cabins either through homeaway or chains or individuals. However, Ricks comfort cabin is one of the most unique, comfortable and lovely cabins I have ever had the pleasure to stay in. The design of the cabin is awesome. The kitchen area and bedroom/bathroom are connected by the loft area upstairs and the breezeway on ground level. This makes for a really interesting floor plan that allows for the kitchen and bedroom to be surrounded by large french doors and lots of natural light and views of the hills. This floor plan and the windows allow the outside to really be brought indoors. The cabin sits atop a hill on 11 acres and boasts stunning views from the outdoor living areas, from the bedroom and the kitchen. The outdoor areas feature a hammock to relax and take in the views, a fire pit for cold nights and a grill. There is also a lovely garden right in front of the cabin for organic veggies. The trails are also well marked and make for some great hiking and exploring on the land. The bedroom is very quaint and had a firestove, tv and surprisingly comfortable large bed. The owners even left extra blankets that were needed on a cold night and the pillows were so soft and fluffy they had me checking the tags. The best thing about the bedroom is the gorgeous views of the hills that can be enjoyed from bed. Be sure to wake up early to catch a Sunrise from bed as well. The kitchen is large and well stocked. There is everthing you need to cook an awesome meal and then some. My favorite part of the kitchen was the ability to drink a cup of coffee with the french doors open while taking in the views. This is by far my favorite cabin in the hill country and is much more stunning in person than words or pictures can convey. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a weekend getaway in the hill country and cannot wait to return. Rick is also one of the kindest owners I have ever dealt with on homeaway. He was beyond accommodating and went up and beyond what you would expect from a host. I cannot reccomend or imagine a more kind and hospitable couple to rent from.

Very special property... even better than I imagined!
My husband and I planned a last minute getaway for our one year anniversary. Rick's cabin was available, affordable, and dog friendly-- so we booked it and off we went. The drive from Comfort to the cabin is a bit of a long one, because much of the road is gravel and you need to slow down. Pick up whatever you need from town before you head up there for the day. Watch out for a few ruts in the road your first time.. I think the recent rains have washed parts out a bit. It's a beautiful country drive, and we saw deer, a turtle, and a jackrabbit. The cabin is way up on a hill and very private. The property is barbed wire fenced, but has a solid stockade style gate that is not see-thru. The cabin is way more beautiful than the pictures suggest (and they look pretty). On the first day we arrived right at sunset and everything was lit up with a beautiful golden light. I wish I could upload the pictures I took... all our friends and family want to know where this awesome property is. Right now there is a field of wildflowers between the stone deck and the veggie garden. Our two dogs loved running free on the property, but we didn't let them get too far from the cabin. We didn't see any snakes, but this is the country and I'm sure they are around there somewhere. We walked the trails on the property and also walked the gravel roads of the neighborhood. I made a cup of tea every morning and watched the sunrise from the patio. There are all sorts of beautiful birds that visit the cabin's feeders-- if you are a bird watcher or photographer, you'll just love it. It's very quiet and peaceful. We stargazed and saw a shooting star one night... the next night we built a fire. Away from the cabin and Comfort, we briefly visited Fredericksburg, Boerne, and San Antonio which are all within about an hour's drive. The Cave Without A Name in Boerne is a must see! We were really surprised by it and it's a great thing to do on a hot day. The property does have a few quirks... it is very eco-friendly and runs off catchment water. There is purified drinking water in the kitchen but it comes out at a trickle. Not sure if the filter needs to be replaced or what, but we ended up getting some bottled water. The toilet runs off a vacuum pump and the instructions say the button needs to be pressed several times to activate. Just keep pressing it... eventually it will flush. There are no curtains so you'll be up with the sunrise... which is beautiful. Just FYI.

Peaceful Setting with Amazing Views
This cabin is absolutely adorable. It feels like an old country cabin but is new and has all the modern conveniences, even an air conditioner in the master bedroom. The views are spectacular and the roads around the mountain provided plenty of exercise to run with my dog. The owner's were very conscientious in calling to make sure everything was okay. I spent most of my time in the breezeway relaxing and taking in the rolling countryside views. The place is decorated in a way that captures the spirit of days gone by....bird feeders in the trees...plenty of outdoor areas to just relax and take in the natural surroundings...Loved my time at this cabin. Thanks for sharing this special place!

Peace and Quiet
Overall we were happy with the seclusion and peacefulness of the cabin. The view is spectacular. We enjoyed seeing the wild life and exploring the property. The owners were wonderful about getting back with us quickly. The place was clean. The cabin is a good 8 miles from the main road. So make sure you have what you need to avoid multiple trips. The only couple of things we were not expecting was there is no a/c and the ants. There is a swamp cooler, but it did not cool the cabin down. Sleeping was tough with the heat. We did open the windows since it was cooler outside than in. That helped. The other was the many ants throughout the kitchen and bedroom. We even kept our dogs dry food in the fridge. It is a great place to bring a dog. We didn't have to worry about him getting out. If it could have been cooler, and I had ant spray with me, it would've been perfect. Definitely worth going to, especially during cooler months.

Loved the layout of the property
I LOVED this cabin! The views of the hill country are phenomenal , the stars at night were absolutely mezmorizing. This cabin is so unique yet configured in such a way that no matter what part of the cabin you are in the view is never obstructed. The bed was very comfortable, the water pressure in the shower was great, most cabins you get a 'trickle' this one had a nice sized shower head , plenty of really hot water . The fully equipped kitchen was a plus 👍🏼 We saw a variety of brightly colored birds non stop , a wild turkey and a very loving and friendly cat would come by visit briefly . This cabin was very peaceful and stress relieving . I especially liked being gated in for privacy and safety reasons. I loved this cabin so much I posted it on social media and everyone was impressed, the pictures on the website do not do it justice , I will definitely be a return visitor and suggest it to all with no hesitation or reservations .

Girls Weekend
Every year my two best friends and I plan a girls weekend. This year we decided to go to nature. This cabin surpassed all of our expectations. The kitchen was stocked with donation food left from other guests, pots and pans, and all of the kitchen utensils once could ask for. Even though we had storms during our stay, we made the most of it and played cards in the kitchen.During our stay we ventured to Fredericksburg where we took the 290 wine tour shuttle to the listed vineyards. All in all, we had a lovely stay and the views are phenomenal. I would love to come back for another stay.

Easter Weekend Getaway
Peace, quiet, secluded and pure serenity in the beautiful Hill Country. We stayed 4 nights, the cabin was perfect loved the decor, design and layout, especially the open breezeway. The views overlooking the valley were absolutely beautiful, thoroughly enjoyed lounging around, walking the trails to the creek and warming up with an evening fire in the fire pit. We also had a nice fire one morning in the pot belly stove in the cozy bedroom and our two labs enjoyed the freedom to run, roam and explore. Hope to come back in the fall and stay longer. If your looking for a truly unique and quiet place to escape it all Rick's Comfort Cabin is it!!!

Private. Unique and inspiring
I hesitate to make my thoughts public, because in telling how wonderful our getaway was, we chance others competing for booking dates in the future. The property is completely private, if you don't want to share your time, you won't have to.Any and everything you could possibly want is there, it seemed a tradition of previous guests leaving something for others to share. There were frozen foods, seasoninhs, pancake mix and syrup, even a few bottles of wine. We "gifted" a little larger electric coffee maker ourselves. The layout if the dog trot cabin was adorable and fun. The owner thought of everything and the efforts to spare the environment are progressive and challenge me to do better. We originally planned for 2 nights, but decided to stretch it one more night, and I am so appreciative that Rick was kind enough to allow that. We have stayed in several other lodgings in the area, but for complete privacy and relaxation this place will be our first choice.

Incredibly unique cabin
We were fortunate enough to spend a weekend in this incredible cabin. The unique layout is fantastic, all the french doors help blend the indoor and outdoor wonderfully. The finishes are fantastic, particularly the woodwork. Our favorite part though was the low-impact nature of the cabin. It is designed to be incredibly sustainable and part of the surrounding nature rather than dominating it. The property is beautiful and the location is excellent for exploration of the surrounding hill country. Our dogs loved it too!

Hill Country Retreat
We have stayed at many cabins in Texas and other States, but Rick's Comfort Cabin is the best! The cabin was absolutely gorgeous, so beautifully designed and furnished. The cabin was already so well stocked with coffee and other food supplies. The kitchen has everything needed for meal preparations. The bedroom was cozy and so comfortable. We loved being able to walk along the trails already laid out and enjoy the magnificent scenery and outdoors. If you are a nature lover, you will be in heaven. Rick has provided a truly beautiful place to visit and we would definitely recommend this cabin to everyone who wants to experience a great trip to the Texas Hill Country.

Wonderful get away to celebrate me wife's birthday
My wife and I visited Rick's Comfort Cabin to celebrate her 34th birthday. This place is amazing and we had a wonderful weekend. The cabin is peaceful and relaxing. We spent our evenings using the outside fire place, grilling, reading our books, playing cards and enjoying a glass of wine or beer! The cabin is located close to some great attractions and during the day we visited Fredriksburg, Kerrville, Enchanted Rock for a day of hiking and the Moonshine Distillery in Comfort. The cabin has wood, coffee, microwave, stove, cutlery etc so we didn't need to bring anything other than food to grill or cook and beverages. There is a bit of a slow drive as the roads turn into dirt, so we loaded up from the store so we weren't making multiple trips. It was the perfect long weekend get a way for us (very romantic!!!) and we had an amazing time. Would thoroughly recommend this cabin.
