• Vrbo pictures did not show the amount of clutter (especially in open closets), uncleanliness (especially in kitchen, where sewer flies were flying around the sink, garbage can, and small kitchen table), and bad odor due to water in the basement. When we arrived, a fan was running to try to dry out the water issue in the basement. There was a bad thunderstorm on August 23rd, which caused the fan to “shorted out” due to about 2 – 3 inches of water in the basement.
• Email instructions were not sent for entering the house. We contacted the host by phone, since he seemed reluctant to use Vrbo’s messaging system. He said there would be two keys in the mailbox outside the side door. On arrival, we found only one key, which he said the previous guest had lost the other key. Later, the host left us a second key. A keypad should be used on rental houses for security reasons!
• The house was not pet friendly, since there were clusters of wiring on floors, too much clutter (especially in open closets without doors) almost everywhere in house. We kept our dog on a leash inside the house for her safety.
• This farmhouse is almost 200 years old. Therefore, it needs a safety inspection due to numerous safety issues, such as trip hazards (too many extension cords; area rugs not secured). Floor fan was on wet basement floor, which was partially immersed in water due to storm on 8/23/2023.
