Palm Lake Cottage: 5-Star Country Comfort

Escape to the pristine NE GA mountains! Super-private, Palm Lake Cottage (PLC), nestled in the Smokey Mountain foothills, provides a super-comfortable, countryside environment with beautiful pastures/woods views, a secure, private fenced backyard, walking/hiking trails in 10+ acre pastures & 40+ acre woods. Closest neighbor; over 600' away. Deer & wildlife abound. Easy access to private 3-acre, spring-fed lake for fishing, swimming, boating. Memory-foam mattresses, Egyptian cotton.

Palm Lake Cottage is our guest house. It's set up as a super-comfortable retreat for our out-of-town friends and is shared with guests when available. PLC is located in the rolling hills of northern Habersham County, in between two mountain ranges. Constructed in 1942, and updated in 1996, 2017, 2022, 2024.
There's a secure, fenced back yard with a covered kennel. Pets are welcome and allowed indoors (but not on furniture or beds.) 10-acres of prime pasture, two stalls and more than a mile of riding trails, if you wish to bring your horses. (Please inquire as to equine policies and fees.) There is adequate parking for several cars or even an RV.
Two HDTVs provide Netflix, Hulu, HBO+, Paramount+, 500+Mbs fiber Internet and high-speed WiFi access.
PLC is optimized for up to 4-guests. There is an additional $20/day fee for each guest exceeding two. PLC provides two bedrooms, one with private bath. King & queen memory-foam beds w/ 800+ct Egyptian cotton sheets and down and foam pillows. Additional accommodations via queen-sized inflatable can be arranged. if required.
Two full baths with rain-head showers; one with a shower/tub combo. Fluffy 100% Turkish cotton towels & bath robes.
Gas range, full-size frig, & air fryer. Stainless cookware and utensils. Complete service for 8+. (No microwave; but you can bring your own.) Excellent water! (Don't bother bringing bottled water... well water exceeds commercial water bottling standards.) Electric fireplace, outdoor gas grill and stone backyard fire pit.

If your stay is longer than 2-days, please give the palm in the living room a glass of water each day. The flower pots in the front also appreciate a regular drink.
Pets: Welcome! Woof Woof! (just not in beds or on furniture) The fenced backyard is secure if you wish to leave your pets outdoors. Wildlife abounds on the property, so we recommend keeping pets on a leash when not in a secure area… lest they run off chasing a deer. If your furry friends are nervous or aggressive with people or other animals, please leave them in the fenced area or keep them on a lease. The property is home to free-range chickens, cattle, dogs, and a wide variety of wildlife... all friendly unless threatened. If your pets cannot be trusted to stay off the furniture and beds when you are not with them, crate them or leave them outside in the fenced area.
The lake is just across the pasture via the trail & gate to the left of the barns. The cattle are friendly, but curious and should not present any challenge. If you prefer, you may drive over via our driveway at 2900 and park by the barns to access the trails and lake. Catch all the fish you can! No license is required. If you wish to keep and eat some, check with us first. If you wish to feed them, they normally feed at the end of the afternoon, unless the surface water is too cold for them to come up. They get a scoop of fish food found in the metal trash can on the dock. You may borrow the kayaks and

paddle boards for a cruise. Paddles are on the rack. The SeaCycle is not available to guests. No fishing, swimming or boating after sundown. Four lounge chairs are available at the dock. Please fold them down when leaving, lest the wind blow them into the lake. Missing lounge chairs will be billed at $100/each.
Please shut off the propane tank at tank if using the outdoor grill. If not, a $25 fee will be charged.
There is NO MICROWAVE in the Cottage, (if you are still using one at home, you may be interested to read the Hans Hertel Study) You may bring your own, though. There is a toaster oven/ air fryer and a full gas range with oven. Air fryer instructions are a in the drawer next to the fridge, if you are unfamiliar.
Smoking outside only.
There is a 1+ mile hiking trail that starts just on the other side of the split-rail fence opening to the left of the barns (as viewed from the Cottage). If you proceed down the hill on the far side of that fence, a trail will open up at the bottom and lead you around the outskirts of the property.
Check-out is 11am to allow sufficient time to clean before the next guests arrive. A later check-out may be possible if the next guests are not arriving the same day and the cleaners can be delayed. Check-in time is 3pm, but an earlier time may be available. Inquire about availability.
Cleaning Policy: The Cottage is our guest house. We strive to provide a pristine environment for our friends, family and guests. Our cleaning crew is very conscientious and works hard to make your stay enjoyable. We allocate 4-hours to completely clean and refresh the Cottage. We only charge $100 for this service which is built into your fee. This includes: whole house vacuuming, dusting, mopping, wash/dry all used bedding and towels, clean, sanitize, and restock the bathrooms and kitchen. Normally, a complete turn can be completed by two personnel in just under 4-hours. However, if you and/or your pets leave the Cottage in a state which requires additional cleaning to restore the Cottage to its original default state, you will be charged for the additional time required at the rate of $50 per hour, with a $100 minimum. If pet hair is found on the furniture or bedding, considerable time is required to wash/dry/rewash/dry to achieve the required results. If the floors or baths are excessively dirty and require more than one pass, you will be charged appropriately, with a $100 minimum. If bedding, towels, furniture, floors or walls are stained or scratched, you will be charged for additional cleaning, replacement or repairs. Vacuums and cleaning supplies are provided in the hall closet and laundry room, if required. A complete set of 18/10 stainless cookware is provided for your culinary pleasure. If you allow your food to boil over onto/into the cookware and stove, please clean them. There are scratch-less pads under the sink for the stovetop. DO NOT use steel wool or abrasive cleaners on the stovetop! There is 18/10 flatware service for 8 in the drawer to the right of the sink. Please insure there is still service for 8 when you leave. Missing pieces will be charged at $10/each.
Please place used towels and linens in the laundry room at check-out.

Peaceful
Overall, our visit was peaceful and relaxing. The cottage is roomy and has everything you could need. I didn't read the listing very well because I thought we would be closer to the lake. The only downside was the fenced yard because its not maintained and or kept tidy. There are lots of mushrooms growing and has an old dirty doghouse. Looks abandoned. s

We loved this property!
Stayed here with my wife, 13 year old daughter and her friend. Everything was exactly as described in the listing. We spent a lot of time on the small private lake on the property kayaking and paddle boarding. Lake was cold but tolerable for swimming. Probably ideal by May. Location is great! 10 minutes to downtown Clarkesville which is a cute little town with some nice restaurants. And 20-25 minutes to Helen, Taccoa Falls, Tallulah Gorge and my personal favorite, Minnehaha Falls, a really nice waterfall with a short walk in at a very secluded and quiet spot. All in all we had a great time at this property and my daughter is already asking if we can go back!

Peaceful, relaxing
Palm Lake Cottage was just what we needed for a peaceful relaxing weekend away. The cottage was well stocked with the essentials and lots of little extras, too. The beds were comfy and we slept very well. Very quiet and dark, great for stargazing. The men enjoyed the fishing at the private lake in the property most of all. The fish were hitting the hook practically before the bobber touched the water. We didn't swim or kayak, but there were paddle boards, kayaks, and a floating dock if that's your thing. A really restful country setting, but not a far drive from lots of attractions. Heading about 1/2 an hour in different directions will take you to Helen, GA, Rabun GA, Clayton GA, Taccoa Falls or Tallulah Falls, all of which are worth a visit. In Clarkesville, the Miles Through Time car museum and thrift/ antique store are well worth an afternoon of your time. Cliff was a wonderful host. He gave us some yummy breakfast and lunch spot suggestions, was always available if we needed anything, but was never intrusive on our time or space. And Sophie the Golden was a beautiful delight. The cottage is very, very dog friendly. We didn't bring ours, but there is a fenced yard, a large outdoor kennel, food and water bowls inside, treats, and a dog bed all available if your fury family members travel with you. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend Palm Lake Cottage if you're looking for a peaceful, relaxing stay.

Quaint farm house in idyllic setting
My sister and I had a wonderful stay in this quaint older cottage on a lovely mountain farm. The home has been well maintained while keeping it's comfortable, casual air. It was especially nice to be able to have our two large dogs with us, and the facilities to keep them safe and comfortable all available, even down to a large size dog bed. It was a very private setting though the hosts' home was just over the pasture. Nice front sitting porch added to the charm. There is a lot of traffic on the road out front though you won't hear anything but the birds as you walk through the woods to the spring fed pond. We had a bit of a misunderstanding over a chair that we got a spot on but it eventually got resolved. All in Ally, the area has a lot to offer and this was a good home base from which to operate.
