Ranch House in the Elkhorn Mountains

The renovated Ranch House is perfect as the gathering place for a romantic retreat, or home base while watching wildlife and exploring the Elkhorns. It is part of a 900 acre working cattle ranch that borders National Forest. We are about 25 minutes outside of Helena, Montana, so we are close to town, but secluded in the mountains. There is access to hiking and biking trails minutes away.

The house has 2 bedrooms with double beds and a fold out sofa bed. It has a fully functioning kitchen and a smaller bathroom. There is also a covered porch to take in the mountain views and a fire pit to enjoy the stars of the Big Sky during the evening. Often during the summer, a herd of elk grazes in the hay field right out the back door.

This 100 year old home has been updated and added to slowly throughout the years and has a lot of history to tell. It is great for people with a sense of adventure and don't mind the classics. Although the house is very clean, some wear and tear from being lived and worked in are inevitable. Come and enjoy real Montana ranch living in a mountain oasis.

The ranch house is also the perfect halfway point for travelers visiting Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks looking to keep an authentic Montana feel.

Heaven! Perfect relaxation
We loved this place. It's as cozy as a mountain cabin should be. The extra treat was the piano! My husband played and played. Thank you for that! We'll stay there again when we visit Helena.

This was our first time renting a property…and they set a high bar for others to follow! It wasn’t high-end luxury at all…but it was exactly what we needed. Two of our four days we just sat outside and soaked in the quiet and scenery. We watched as the deer came up to the fenced in yard as our dog looked at them curiously. The 1917 ranch house has the characteristics that our grandparents and great-grandparents talked about: thick walls, quaintness, and very family orientated. With no WiFi and limited cell service, it was perfect for us to exit the pressures of today’s lifestyle and detox from our stress. The 4 R Ranch should stand for: Relaxing, Renewal, Refocus and Reconnection.

Well worth it!
This was an amazing place - sure beats the cattle farms back east ;) If you were on the fence about staying here, get off of it and book it! When we pulled in, we saw a black bear cub on the road up and mule deer that were grazing in the yard. Then we were greeted to a double rainbow later that evening as the storm rolled over. Truly beautiful property and amazing temps for a southern girl who’s used to humidity! All the amenities were provided - charming old home. There is a dirt road leading to the property but it is well maintained and does not require 4 wheel drive. Definitely gives you an authentic Montana experience without crowds! The worst thing about the place was having to leave =)

I am a 3 year old moutain cur. I loved jumping around your farm chasing the birds and bugs. My people parents live in an apartment and i don't get to roam freely too much. I was so excited to see your wonderful farm, I will definitely be bringing my people back again.

Our stay at this cozy ranch house had wonderful views. We were able to walk around the property unobstructed. At dusk and dawn, we were able to see the elk that hang around this area.

This house and property is perfect to unwind and relax. It’s tucked away but not too far out of Helena. We loved have a big yard for our two dogs to roam on. The home was clean, cozy and comfortable. The sunrise and sunsets were beautiful! We will definitely be back next time we’re in Helena! Thank you Patti for an amazing stay!

Cabin at the right place.
We stayed there to go elk hunting. It turned out to be a centralized location for us to hunt from. There were acres of land around the ranches and connected to the national forest. Also it was a short drive to the WMA on the other side of the range. We will be back if we are lucky enough to draw a tag.

Beautiful home in the Elkhorn Mountains. Great retreat near lots of nature & hiking. Built in the early 1900’s it still has all of its original charm. Full kitchen so I recommend getting groceries in Helena on the way in. Host provides farm fresh eggs!!! There’s a piano for tinkering on and a big bathtub for a nice soak. Great place for dogs too. I love this place. Will definitely revisit when I’m in the area.

An historic cabin with a glorious view
This is an historic cabin some distance from East Helena. It's about a 7 mile drive to get to it on a good dirt road. It met our needs perfectly. There is no wifi here but there is 4G cell service, so plan accordingly. We found the best way to the cabin was up McClellan road off Hwy 12. The deer wander around the house in the evening, eating the grass.

Amazing location and views!
Patti and Toms little farmhouse was awwsome. There is so much history there and it was like taking a step back in time. Everything was clean and Patti was very responsive. The views from the yard were wonderful and the dogs enjoyed playing Frisbee there in the evenings. There is no AC at the house but it stayed cool and comfortable even during the hot parts of the day. We saw deer, pronghorn antelope, elk, a badger and lots of chipmunks! We hope to be back soon!
