The Avondale neighborhood has been ranked one of the coolest neighborhoods in the world!

Time Out Magazine gave Avondale the 16th coolest spot on a list of 51.

The magazine asked city dwellers worldwide to pick their city's neighborhoods with great dining and drinking options, and energetic street life.

Time Out Chicago editor Emma Krupp wrote that Avondale, once and still a center of Chicago's Polish community, is now "equally defined by some of the city's best Mexican food and a truly madcap array of small businesses."

Specifically, Krupp mentioned The Brewed horror-themed coffee shop, at 2843 N. Milwaukee Ave., and The Insect Asylum entomological collection at 2870 N. Milwaukee Ave. – among an assortment of others she named as stops for a "perfect day" in Avondale. She also noted that Avondale features "everything from trendy new bars and airy plant stores to decades-old sausage shops catering to the neighborhood's Polish-speaking population."

Family visit with dogs
We were visiting our daughter, son-in-law, and toddler grandson who live nearby. We really enjoyed walking our two Boston Terriers in the neighbor and were pleased to find a nearby dog park where they could run and chase the ball. Our communications with Karen’s, the manager were great. She got back to us right away !

Be aware
Pros and cons to staying here for sure. The place is well done, very cute. The owner is very responsive. Our first issue was that all the parking around the neighborhood requires a permit. Spent 40 minutes trying to park the first night and then dragged our luggage over a half mile to the house. Took Uber afterwards instead of the car we had paid for. Second were the stairs up to the place - very steep. If you have any mobility issues at all this is not the place for you. Third, the building is old, but the the floor is EXTREMELY creaky. As in if your partner goes to the bathroom in the middle of the night you will be awake also. Some rugs may help this- maybe! Take these things into consideration.

Cute little flat
This flat is very cute; the neighborhood was lovely and we overall enjoyed the stay. The owner was responsive throughout the stay. The quirks- this is an upper flat in an older house & the stairs were quite large. I am able bodied but do have some limiting health stuff. The stairs would prevent me from coming back. Parking was a non-issue. I parked a half block away and my friend one block away (amazing for Chicago). The flat was clean and sunny. We really loved it.

Issues
1. The floor squeaked, loudly, every single step you took. One person could not sleep if the other was walking. 2. Very limited parking in the neighborhood. Crowded area and many permit only streets. 3. No thermostat. Someone else controls your temperature. 4. Three flights of uneven stairs, Minor, but aggravating issues: -no towel racks in bathroom -bare minimun kitchen furnishings e.g. no corkscrew -only overstuffed foam rubber pillows
