Disliked: Cleanliness, staff & service, property conditions & facilities
What a sad deterioration of a once elegant and beautiful venue. It has been downgraded to a budget hotel, lacking in both comfort and character. The public areas have been stripped of everything related to the hotel's history and heritage and the bedrooms are bland and cold.
Check-in was efficient but unwelcoming. It seems to be hotel policy that staff should never smile at guests.
There was no heating in the bedroom. It was a chilly night but the only way to warm up the room was to set the air-conditioning to a higher temperature but since it works by blowing air out of vents set high up towards the ceiling that is not very effective. And being a fan system, it was too noisy for sleep, so I had to turn it off when I went to bed. By early hours of the morning, the room was freezing. The paper-thin duvet was no real help. If you stay here during the colder months, I would recommend packing your winter woollies to wear in bed.
The staff are unhelpful and unfriendly."Good morning" got a grunt from the chap on the reception desk and a blank stare from the waiter in the dining room. There was a queue waiting to check out but there was only one staff member handling checkout; two others were sitting there chatting. Due to limits on review length, I cannot detail how bad the hotel was, but I can say that If you are looking for comfortable accommodation, quality service, pleasant ambience or courteous staff, then go elsewhere – you will find none of these at the Queen.
