L'ancienne Cabine: Waterfront, Historic Log Cabin meets Bohemian Charm

Rare is the opportunity to immerse yourself in a storybook setting fit for the likes of wandering creatives and hopeless romantics. Set waterfront in the Lake Norman State Park, this charming log cabin, built in 1840, is truly an intersection of past and present offering all things needed to unplug. Guests can enjoy picturesque views of Lake Norman off the dock, sipping your drink of choice on the twinkle-lit deck or listening to your favorite record cuddled by the fireplace. Please, come be our guest!

Our space was curated to feel old-worldly, bohemian and connected to nature - all to parallel the history that lives in this home. Having been built in 1840 in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and moved here log-by-log in 1978, it truly feels like a mountain getaway. Inside, you will find the quirks and charms of an historic home - cozier spaces, particularly the shower spaces which are a function of 1840s form, unique attributes like original stairs, hardwoods and logs (each inscribed, if you look for it, with the location where each one was meant to be placed for reconstruction), a functional wood-burning fireplace and a neat loft bedroom overlooking the hearth (where the second queen bed is located, not in the living room as it must be identified on the listing). The home is an experience within itself, not just a place to roost. You can also expect modern amenities like a Keurig coffee machine, smart Roku TVs on both the main and lower level, fast WiFi, a fire pit stocked with logs, a picnic table both on the deck and just below the fire pit area on the lower deck, and paddle boards when the season allows it.

Please note, this home is almost 200 years old, the log walls and ceilings are original and thus is only partially ducted (no true attic, no standard walls), whereas the lower level is finished and completely ducted. The HVAC was installed in 2022, so it is very efficient. The wood-burning fireplace is awesome! It helps heat the home in the cooler months and we always provide plenty of firewood for the fireplace. That said, wood-burning chimneys can be aromatic. If you or anyone in your group has asthma or allergies, please book with caution! We do regularly sweep the chimney, and though we understand some are more sensitive than others, bookings will not be refunded due to the aromatics of the chimney.

Cozy, rustic retreat
We had an amazing weekend here with family. The cabin is stunning and had everything we could possibly need. We were very comfortable and would definitely return for another stay. Samantha was a thoughtful and kind host!
